We recently stayed at your hotel and, unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations. While the property boasts lovely views and tasteful decor, it is somewhat isolated, with little to explore in the immediate vicinity. Guests must cross the bridge to properly access the city. Additionally, there is no free parking on-site, even for hotel guests; instead, there is a reduced rate of £6 for 24 hours at a nearby car park, which is not particularly convenient.
Although we booked directly, a change in dates resulted in an additional £27 charge for moving to a weekday, which we accepted. When speaking to a staff member on the phone, she was very pleasant and mentioned she would leave a note requesting a possible upgrade, if available. Upon arrival, I inquired about this and was told, rather abruptly, “I’m glad it wasn’t me you spoke to on the phone so I don’t have to give you an upgrade.” This response felt unprofessional and unnecessarily dismissive. The room we were given was disappointing—its view was of a flat roof and a green wall, and its overall condition was poor. There were multiple cleanliness issues, including non-head hair in the bathroom and bed, a stain on the bedding, and what appeared to be blood or wine stains on the floor, all of which were documented in photographs. The room should be withdrawn from use until properly cleaned and maintained.
Though I considered complaining, my wife preferred to avoid conflict and enjoy a quiet evening. We booked spa access for 6:00 PM based on the room guide, which stated it closed at 8:30 PM. However, when we arrived, no staff were at the desk, so we signed ourselves in. The spa was underwhelming, with only six seats and minimal space—two couples already present meant we couldn’t sit together. The plunge pool was murky and uninviting, and although the sauna was acceptable, there were used plastic cups lying around. At 7:00 PM, a staff member rudely informed us the spa was closing—earlier than the stated time. No one had previously informed us of a change in hours. As we were leaving, a cleaner nearly hit us with a mop while walking past, adding to the feeling that guests were an inconvenience rather than being welcomed.
Dinner in the restaurant started off promising with a great table and view. However, we were served water containing floating black particles—twice. Side orders of chips and vegetables were poorly prepared: the chips were black and off, and the broccoli was yellow and tasteless. My wife’s fish dish was overly greasy. Fortunately, a staff member named Zara provided excellent service, promptly apologizing and refunding the problematic items. Her professionalism stood out and should be commended.
Breakfast the next morning was a pleasant contrast, with a good selection and attentive service. The chef even offered to cook eggs fresh to order, which we appreciated.
Upon departure, when asked about our stay, I replied that I was simply happy to be going home. I briefly shared some of the issues we had encountered. The receptionist explained the spa had changed its closing time the previous week but failed to update room information or communicate this when we booked. She involved the duty manager, who offered a generic apology but did not seem genuinely concerned. I was told someone would contact us regarding our experience, but as of now, we have received no follow-up.
In summary, the hotel appears to be operating below capacity, and several service and maintenance issues are impacting guest experience. While some staff were professional and helpful, many interactions left us feeling disappointed and undervalued. We hope this feedback is taken seriously to improve future guest...
Read moreHad a two night stay at the newly opened Ebrington hotel and it was utterly underwhelming! The lobby was tastefully decorated and staff member was very pleasant at check-in but when I got to our room I was really shocked! The room was extremely small and had no window! I rang reception and the staff member offered to come and see if we could be moved. She took us to a Riverview room which again, was really small but an improvement as it had a small window however, no bathtub which is what I had requested in my booking notes! So again, she moved us to another room which was smaller again but had a bath. I was due into the spa shortly after arrival so decided to go with it as I was running late. My visit to the spa was another disappointment! Got changed and was shown into the thermal area which I had access to for one hour before my treatment and it is literally just one room with a pool, a sauna, steam room, showers and 6 loungers. When I arrived there were about a dozen young lads all messing about very loudly in the pool, I walked around the corner expecting another area but that was it so I went back out to reception and was offered use of the relaxation room. It turned out to be a holding area for hotel guests who wanted to use the facilities but were unable to do so due to the guys who had taken it over completely. At this stage there were a lot of discussions about just going home as it was awful! However, saw it through and availed of two treatments after quite a sit in the relaxation area with lots of others and the treatment was very good, it helped relax me. Afterwards my therapist assured me the thermal area was quieter and I went around to see. The guys had left thankfully and the pool was quieter but nowhere to set my robe or towel as all the loungers were in use. Six loungers for the use of the entire hotel is definitely insufficient. Leaving my items on the wet floor, I used the facilities and waited about in the hope someone would move, this didn’t happen so went out and back to my room. Finding the room was not easy! The place is like a maze and I had to walk through several unused common areas and lots of corridors to get back. Ran the bath and after I got in, I realised there was no way to wash my hair! So after all the room moving, I had to take a shower anyway! I was really shocked and disappointed at the lack of space in the rooms but as I had plans made in the City the following day, I thought I would try staying. Later that evening the room was at 23 degrees and there was no way to cool it, the controls were locked! I rang down to reception and they assured that the duty manager would get it cooled but a full hour later, still nothing! Rang again and about 10 mins later, the room was cooling. The bed itself was comfortable but just very small which I found odd for a hotel. Got through the night but awoke with a very sore throat which must have been due to the cool air. As everything was so disappointing up to that point I decided not to bother with breakfast. Just spent time in the City which was within walking distance, just across the Peace Bridge.
Overall, hotel is definitely not a return for me. Advantages to it is location, free parking, beautifully decorated and friendly staff. Downsides is, rooms are extremely small, choice of a bath or a window in some, thermal area was overcrowded, room temperature was awful, still a building site, woken at 8am with very loud machinery and in my...
Read moreWe visited here for our 15th Wedding Anniversary. Although staff asked the reason for our visit and it was noted on our booking, there was no well wishes. We stay away quite often and usually reception offers a Happy Anniversary or congratulations when we check in, which is a really simple welcoming personal touch, so we though that a little odd. The hotel is not fully finished with multiple bars unfinished and areas lacking finesse so it was hit and miss. Its a bit like a maze to find your room, but once youve done it, its easy enough. My husband is over 6ft so we always book king/super king rooms. Also our room stated a king, it was a double and much too short for him. The room itself was nicely decorated but very small and we heard every word of conversations outside our window, so you can imagine the noise from the busy road, and then the worksite in the early morning. Other than that the room was clean, the bed was comfortable (for me) and the shower pressure good, which is always a bonus.
We had dinner in the oak room as we were looking forward to trying their Eel dish, unfortunately after I ordered they informed me they had run out, which was really disappointing. The rest of the food wasnt exceptional, but was nice and presented very well.
Breakfast is served in the same room, which is weird as its a throughway to get to their bar (which also sells food) and we watched multiple people come from outside and walk through past the breakfast bar. Breakfast itself was just OK, my husband ordered eggs benedict but was told they had no sauce, then they were going to make up more sauce and he did enjoy it once it arrived. We did notice another couple after us were then told there was no sauce, so not sure what the issue was.
A bonus was the room service menu, times and prices. Although we didn't avail of it, we were impressed with the choice and times.
The hydrotherapy area is nice but also very small, not really suited for more than 6, definitely no more than 10. We had it to ourselves so we just enjoyed the quiet.
Overall this could be a nice hotel once fully opened and organised. Parking is handy, it's walking distance into the city over the peacebridge and in general we had an ok stay. Personally I think its over priced at the minute, we stayed on a Monday, it wasn't fully open and we paid nearly the same as we did for our stay in a galgorm resort the next day.
One thing I have to give praise and credit for is the staff. Each and everyone were genuinely friendly, helpful and efficient. Always smiling and gave us a giggle or two. These are the people to pull the hotel through and keep people...
