We knew about the Walled City Brewery before visiting Derry, but what we didn't know was that they have very limited hours. During our stay, Monday - Thursday they are only open for a small window between 5-8:30pm. We decided not to go the brewery tour, so I can't comment on if it is worthwhile, but I think I would try doing it next time if we ever were to go back to Derry. The brewery has a full restaurant which has fantastic reviews and was also recommended by our friend who has gone before. We weren't hungry yet for dinner, so we opted to just visit the Taproom. The Taproom is also very cool and has a great vibe with interesting artwork. What we really liked about this brewery was it felt like a craft brewery and offered a lot of variety in their beers. It was the first place that we found that offered a sour beer, they had a wit beer, and they even had a hard seltzer (which honestly wasn't very good unless you like gin drinks). We enjoyed a few drinks and the music for a hour or so before deciding on dinner.

After reading some other reviews we thought we would check it out. We went on the Sunday evening between Christmas and new year. It was around 7pm and the place was busy. We only went for drinks and they accommodated us no bother. The atmosphere was lovely and so were the staff. The beer on offer was very good Like I said we had no food so I cannot give it 5 stars but from what we saw coming from the kitchen looked very appealing. I would however go with 5 stars for the drinks. Very much looking forward to going back to sample food. Location wise it is a walk from the main centre but over the Peace bridge into Ebrington Sqaure is nice. The area is being developed and would be good to see what the plans are for the area as there isn’t much there yet. Please don’t let that stop you from visiting this little gem of a place

Can’t thank you enough for finally creating an entirely separate GLUTEN FREE menu! Being coeliac we can never dine out because not many hospitality entities take it seriously and usually travel to Belfast for such options, but the food here was exquisite especially the carrot purée served with my roast chicken. We are delighted we have found a new local!! Only flaw would be that there are several loose, protruding tiles in the bathroom which are a safety risk for maybe kids & elderly patrons but location, food, atmosphere & service from staff make this an exceptional dining experience & I’ve booked to return already. Great work.

Without Carla assisting us, this would’ve been, at most, a 1 star review.

We didn’t have a reservation and they made a big fuss about it. Telling us to return at 9 pm (closing time is 10?). Upon our return, there were still open seats from earlier…

No problem, we ordered the two course and three course meal.

Appetizers were great. We had the Korean chicken wings. But the real star of the show were the dumplings. If this review was solely based on this dish, it’d be a 5/5, easily. The puffy crust, the umami flavor, this chef really worked some magic on this.

If I could go back, I’d stop there. Unfortunately, we also had the ‘perfectly pink’ steak, that came out cold. And mostly flavorless. I get that you combine this dish with the mushroom umami spread, but nothing pairs well when your entree is cold.

And the cheeseburger. This is the second burger we ordered this visit, and I’ll say, skip burgers altogether because you won’t be missing anything. Same as our steak, burger came out cold. The patty was thick but flavorless and dry.

On another note, if this restaurant/brewery is touted as Michelin chef ran, why don’t they enforce deodorant on their staff? It might just be a cultural thing but aromas being as important as they are in gastronomy, it should be considered at the very least. The whiff of sweaty, revolting body odor was the biggest offense during our meal. We couldn’t even stomach taking a bite without inhaling someone’s entire day of sweat and grim with a quick pass.

Our original server was inattentive and left promptly at 10 without a word to us. We asked for ketchup 3 separate times and it wasn’t until another server, Carla, came by to actually serve us that we received it.

She is a superstar. Carla helped us get sorted for the remainder of our visit. We could easily tell she was waiting her tables and picking up the slack for everyone else too. Thanks Carla, you really redeemed this...

Review is for the Tap Room. Was at a private function on Sat 29th. Food served was good and serving staff polite and helpful. Young girl serving in bar was very polite, cant say the same for the other staff. Because we were a large party I asked if 1 of the staff could take an order. The young lady was polite and advised she couldnt but then turned to her male colleague to ask, his stark reply NO. I asked if it was because there were only 2 bar staff and she said yes. Asked if there were any beers other than craft to be snootily told"we are a craft bar". We asked if there were any leaflets describing the beers and the same barman pointed to an area high above the bar were the names of beers were displayed. Luckily a member of the party was able to advise to go with Kicks beer. Put order in at the bar and carried drinks down to table. Next round- no glasses had to wait until they were collected and washed. Same with the next few rounds, but it got worse single measure of G&T served in pint glass, cocktail in small tumbler and only 1 cocktail on offer. Seemed that drink was being served in whatever glass was available and clean. When a member of the party tried to help push a table back to let the "pleasant barman" retrieve plates he was glared at and table roughly pushed away. Very rude. Later in the evening more bar staff were put on. 1 of barmen stated it was his first night working in a bar. not very fair putting g this young man in this predicament as im sure a lot of customers were irate waiting for drinks. Private function in the restaurant, a wedding I think so perhaps the staff was thin on the ground coping with 2 private functions. Not our fault that bar staff seemed pushed and rude. Wont be back and wont...

Had a booking for 3 pm Sunday afternoon as a party of five, having requested on the booking to be seated outside. On arrival we were informed no table was available outside and no table was ready inside. No big deal, beautiful sunny day, we sat in the public area outside and read the menu, keen to order a drink. Nobody came to take our drinks order but 15 minutes later we were informed a table was ready inside. Sat at the table and were informed of the limited Sunday menu and certain items were unavailable so choices were limited. No problem, cocktails ordered. No non-alcoholic options available other than soft drinks, informed by waitress they had run out of non-alcoholic beer over weekend. The drinks order took a long time to arrive and when it did, the waiter spilled a glass of wine over part of the table and one of our party. Barely an apology made by waiter and a pathetic attempt made to clean up spill. Still no fuss made by our party and after a long delay, food arrived. Food was decent however when one of our party asked for salt they were informed that the restaurant had run out of salt sachets over the weekend. Our table was booked from 3pm-5pm but we weren’t seated until 3.20 and at 4.45 a member of staff asked us to move from our table (as we had just finished eating) and over to high stools close to the door. As we still had drinks to finish we reluctantly obliged, not wanting to make a fuss - yet again - and whilst seated there, would have ordered another round of drinks but were completely ignored by all staff. Overall, the restaurant experience was extremely poor, service was amateur and it spoiled part of the first day out with friends in a long time. Completely put off ever returning to this...
