The hotel is dated. The decor, the fixtures and fittings, the meal service. It's a bit like arriving in the 1970's. Parking is extremely limited. It's also confusing some literature describes having to pay £10 at certain times of the day. Other literature describes the car park as free for residents. The outside is snappy and in need of maintenance. Initial impressions were not good. After asking about additional parking we were told that "that's all the parking we have it's first come first served". That wasn't the question. Our room although considerably larger than others in our party. Was uncomfortably hot with the afternoon sun beating on the room and limited ventilation and no air conditioning. The curtains are thin and do not block much light/heat. The fittings are old the drawers in our room were broken and we're impossible to close quietly so apologies to next door. The advocado bathroom suite was a blast from the past and came with a rusty plughole. There was no shower screen/curtain so a bath was the only option. There was a mixer tap hand held shower which if the lever was pushed too far to the right cut off the cold water feed. Showering you with scolding hot water. Not good and potentially dangerous. Bed comfort is always subjective and is highly dependent on individual taste. If you like a nice hard bed then you'll enjoy this one. The windows need cleaning and our view was of a rundown building and the car park of an adjacent hotel. Meals are ordered for the evening during breakfast service. A personal hate. It is very much for the convenience of the hotel rather than the guest. Quality and quantity was mostly acceptable. Fruit and vegetables are limited. Breakfast is a fairly similar affair. With 4 cereals, fruit juice, tea and coffee on a serve yourself basis. A cooked breakfast, eggs, toast is also available as a table service item. On the whole portions are small although fairly tasty. Facilities consist of a bar that is only open between 6pm and 11pm ( happy? hour is between 6&7) featuring a poor house white/red and a bitter a lager and a cider on draught. Other beers are available by the bottle. The usual selection of spirits are available. There is also a dimly lit indoor swimming pool this is OK but small. The sand at the bottom of the pool indicates that it could use a good clean. There's a steam room. You will need to advise reception that you wish to use it at least 20 minutes before you wish to use it so that it can warm up.(fair enough as the swimming pool was not well used). There is also a Jacuzzi that costs a pound for an 8-10 minute use. So the plus points are the staff. Nearly all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and warranted the second star. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the Burlington hotel. I would rather pay slightly more and stay next door at the Wight hotel. It's a shame because it is well located for all the amenities and...
Read moreWould give zero if possible! Given tiny room which had mould all over the curtains, dirty skirting boards and pipework. Shower room dreadful, scruffy outdated shower cubicle, toilet seat loose, generally grubby. Refused to sleep there, man on night desk was then instructed to show me upstairs room which was tiny, had misted over glazed window, the curtains of which were actually draped onto the bed because it was squashed under the window with no gap for them to hang down. On top of that there were unsupervised young children in opposite room yelling, running around and jumping on the beds. Parent in room next door playing on phone and doing nothing to control them. Male staff member said he had already told them 3 times to behave and when he then knocked on their door to reprimand them again it took 4 attempts to get them to answer and then they shut the door in his face! So I ended up with 'only' room left. Right next door to theckitchen and staff toilet. Noisy is an understatement, really appreciated the blaring radio at 7 in morning, banging, shouting, toilet flushing! Add to that the person in room above me noisily pacing the floor at 6 in the morning, radio blaring and flushing the toilet every 5 minutes, the pipe of which was in ceiling of my room! |Food abysmal if you actually got it that is! Staff lost menu sheet for myself and friend so couldn't have our choice as they'd not made enough! Offered scampi and chips, ham, egg and chips or salad instead. Both chose ham, egg and chips but only 1 meal was brought to table. 15 mins later I asked where mine was. Told the chef had 'mislaid' the order because he was inundated with orders? Rubbish! Everybody else already had their mains whilst I didn't. To add insult to injury the meal was then freshly made for me, so fresh that one of the 2 eggs wasn't even cooked - it was raw!|Staff rude, apart from final morning when clearly hoping for tips. Witnessed several guests being spoken to appallingly and my friend and I were made to feel like we were being nuisances just because we requested to move tables, despite there being many empty ones so hardly an inconvenience. |Also would like to point out the hotel reply to my review on other site - no it was not a small mark on curtain lining, it was MOULD all over them as seen by male staff member and my fellow guest, who also had a dirty room with paint falling off the wall. The staff's fault re evening meal choice mess up and only cooking 1 not 2 meals. There is no excuse for supplying dirty outdated rooms nor for staff being rude to guests. It is not a 'refurbished hotel' as advertised, only part is and definitely not the area...
Read moreAs a frequent traveller in the Uk and abroad I can write this review with a degree of experience and credibility. Where do I start ? On arrival we were slightly early , there was no one at reception and I could wander freely anywhere , for security it was very poor. Onto the room , we booked a family room which was very small with no room to manoeuvre and no dedicated area to store cases. There were very few charging points and no USB points in the room. The room was extremely dated and required new furniture and a good paint . The tv was very small and the bed was extremely uncomfortable with the springs digging in my ribs. The on suite was tiny and was extremely old and required a major update . The shower virtually trickled water and was very poor. The hotel was noisy with guests opposite banging room doors all evening until they were told off by another resident , yes room 43 it was you , get a grip of your kids and have some respect for those around you .. on the Friday a coach turned up and it was clear the entertainment was for them , getting very drunk and keeping us awake until the early hours , some got locked out in the garden . For families with children it was not great and we certainly couldn’t allow our daughter to stay in the entertaining area whilst these people were there. You may say kids shouldn’t be in the var area but that’s where the kids games were so another area would have been better for them . The hotel is clearly using coach trips as a big portion of its revenue which in itself excludes other people. I normally check very thoroughly before booking somewhere and on this occasion I clearly didn’t . The advertising of the hotel also needs verifying as some of the pictures such as the library and garden did not represent the reality . I do understand that the area seems quite run down and the hotel needs to make money but they need to be more accurate on its advertising . Overall the hotel in my opinion needs some serious investment , it needs a more professional culture and the security certainly needs improving . Would I stay again ? Definitely not . The cost wasn’t that expensive and I now know why and in my opinion my review is being very generous having stayed in far...
