I was visiting family in the area for a few days and due to availability at my normal choice of hotel ended up checking in at The Sanderling. It was a bit hit and miss.
My partner booked through their website and paid in advance, so cue our surprise when we got there and we were asked to pay. In checking her bank the payment hadn't been taken despite asking for all the card details so a minor confusion. The lady who checked us in kept saying "we don't have a website so I don't know where you booked and paid" ... When it's clear from Google they have a website with the option to book, so just felt a bit ..... Off?
After sorting payment the lady took us to our room, which was a twin with two singles, despite our booking confirmation clearly showing a double room. We didn't query it as after the issue regarding payment we didn't want to cause more fuss, so that is on us not giving them a chance to correct their mistake.... But it is a mistake that shouldn't have been made to begin with.
The room itself was fine, other than a weird rubbery smell in the bathroom. The duvets however were winter thickness, in August, making sleeping not the easiest. Add to that the "bar" directly below our room, plus the paper thin walls meaning you can hear other guests snoring (and other noises) ... overall we didn't get a great night's sleep either night we were there. (On the bar, great idea for additional revenue and social aspect of a guesthouse. However, if it's directly below a guest bedroom then that's a bit questionable)
Overall location was great, right on the promenade. The rooms were 'okay'. But just some areas that could do with some touching up to give a...
Read moreI stayed here for one night, to break up a longer drive heading further north. Service was very good and I was greeted by friendly and attentive staff upon arrival, who knew all of the local information.
My room had a single bed. It was clean upon arrival, I found the bed to be comfortable (sprung mattress) and all en-suite facilities worked well. Being a 3 Star hotel, I feel it's acceptable to have floorboards that creak and uninsulated plasterboard walls (I've read other reviews complaining about this). You might get some noise from a nearby pub but it doesn't go on all night.
A short walk to the seafront and several dining options with takeaways. Parking is free along the road (although you may not be able to park directly outside) and the hotel entrance is easy to find. Staff will help with luggage and more, if required.
My only real disappointment was that some of the information in the room's guidebook was out of date. Although, information at reception is correct and up to date. I ordered a breakfast for the next morning which was well cooked, delivered on time and set me up well for the day ahead.
I'd recommend this hotel to others and will consider staying again when I'm next...
Read moreArrived at the Sanderling Hotel late afternoon and was let in by a lovely welcoming lady. Booking in was easy and quickly done at the little desk. I was shown to my single room at the top of the hotel; lots of stairs so be prepared. The room was clean, tidy and perfect for my one night stay. If I’m honest I’d have been happy staying longer. The host showed me where everything was and left me to unpack. Comfortable bed and the room was warm. Shower was great and good pressure considering I was right at the top. It was very quiet in the hotel so can’t comment on the ‘thin walls’ but I had a fantastic nights sleep. Didn’t have the breakfast as had to be away early. I will definitely recommend this hotel and stay here again when in Morecambe....
