Booked Ibis Canning Town for a 4 night stay around the time of C2C 2025 as it was Mums Birthday weekend ( country music festival held annually at the O2 arena in March ) as I had stayed there previously for another event at the O2 with a friend. the price was pretty competitive for that amount of time on a flexible booking ( coming from cornwall we never want to do flat rate just in case of delays so this worked out perfect ) The front of house staff and management were really personable and friendly felt like they actually wanted to help not like many of the other hotels of a smilar style and budget. And not only that they were good in answering questions and explaining rather than just shrugging their shoulders and acting like it wasnt their problem like i have had alot before - we like to try and do a london trip every summer if we can and some of the experieinces have been off putting at other places - but I will go out of my way to recommend this particular hotel and staff set up as i found great - I had previously rang up the day before with an issue on the booking as I wasn't able to check in online for some reason but the host was able to check us in and also sort out another issue I had. The tube journey from the hotel to the arena is unbeliveably easy, a few stops on one line and you are there ! unfortunately we were not well on this trip so we were even more greatful for the short jorney. The rooms were immaculate, and the cleaning staff were helpful and polite, we didnt have to remind anyone if we had asked for more towels or toiletries which was great. the smart tv was a bonus, beds very comfy, lighting was plentiful but you could have different sets of lights on which was handy - the tall mirror just as you enter the room was a bit harsh for doing make up in but the one in the bathroom was perfect. We had a little kettle and tea/coffee station which was lovely - something we miss when it isnt in a hotel room. There was just enough hanging space for a 4/5 day trip for two people. AC was working great and not complicated to work out. I liked the fact that it seemed to be more orientated around couples or a small group of friends travelling rather than families - The Cafe / bar attached to the Hotel Chill 08 has lovely staff who make the most amazing drinks and food - the chocolate martini and choco margherita were favourites. Pancakes just what we needed as a treat, and the buffett breakfast was lovely too eveything tasty and fresh much better than getting anything from starbucks to set you up for the day. Would recommend if there is more than one of you to make sure you get a table before you get your food as its a very popular breakfast spot. 11/10 would...
Read moreWe checked in at almost 10pm, on arrival I was stopped by security and said what are you doing when I went to use the lift. My friend was in crutches and I said I'm using the lift because my friend is on crutches! It was quite bizarre. Then he calmed down but surely if you see someone struggling then that's why the disabled lift is be used.
Ibis downstairs is really cute, cosy and done nicely. It has candles on in the evening it's really lovely. At the check in desk I was told I needed to pay for my room. I said I've paid already, he said let me check. Embarrassingly the man serving me colleague who was stood next to him shook his head and said no it's paid. Again embarrassingly for the man serving me said oh I think my colleague knows more than I do. I asked if a complimentary late check out was available, he said we charge £10 every hour you take. So I confirmed back so there are no complimentary check outs. He was completely befuddled. Check in should have been simple I paid in advance so I get a room key. Then simply saying no we don't offer a complimentary late check outs. On this occasion given the circumstances of a broken foot and my friend literally limping with a huge boot brace we should have been given a complimentary late check out because everything simply takes so much longer.
The room is basic but clean. It has a flat screen TV and kettle (tea, coffee and milk). The bed was comfortable and the pillows were nice too.
At 10am we had two knocks at the door and the cleaner proceeded to open the door. When she saw the room was occupied she said sorry and left. I was so shocked. Then at 11am the same thing happened this time I got out of bed and said this is the second time we've been disturbed this morning she apologised and said put the do no disturb on. In terms of privacy this is both shocking and appalling.
So in a short space of less than 24 hours I had a number of bad experiences and I only arrived at 10pm with a 12pm check out the next day.
At check out I was asked by Rafat how my stay was and I said I'm about to submit a complaint and told him about my experience. Because my friend was in crutches we were unable to move far so we stayed at the hotel and ordered brunch. Kornelia were lovely. And so was Rafat who really apologised and gave us two drink vouchers. It was a nice gesture of course however I needed a smoother experience especially with a bag and trying to take care of someone who...
Read moreAh, the Ibis Canning Town. To many, the Ibis brand suggests a hodgepodge of “budget” boxes with limited frills and overly familiar carpet patterns. A bed in a box, often useful in desperate circumstances and not much more. But hold on. This one is different – in fact, I’d argue it’s quite brilliant, and I’m just as surprised to be saying that as you probably are reading it.
Let’s start with the price. £80 a night – and for London! Just a one-way Uber fee to the West End in itself most days. But here’s the twist: despite the suburban-sounding “Canning Town” address, this hotel isn’t actually all that far-flung. It’s straight across from the tube station, the Jubilee Line right there ready to whisk you into central London in a blink. If you get bored waiting, you can even wave at Canary Wharf, looming in the near distance, like a cash-stuffed giant who’s just rediscovered caffeine. This is a pocket of London that’s gone through gentrification like it’s doing a crash diet; modern flats and artisan coffee shops have sprouted up almost suspiciously.
But the hotel! Step inside, and it’s more “funky pizzeria lounge” than “budget lodging.” Cool, edgy decor, the scent of wood-fired pizza in the air (metaphorically at least), and friendly, unfazed staff who check you in before you can blink. It’s unfussy but stylish, and the room? Quite perfect in a surprising way. A clean, nicely appointed space with no unnecessary frills but enough charm to make you forget you’re at an Ibis. Comfortable bed, plenty of towels, immaculately clean. It’s enough to make you think this is actually one of London’s best hotel deals for the price.
So bravo, Ibis. You’ve taken that dubious reputation, scrubbed it up, and managed to deliver something really rather good here. For £80,...
