The montcalm hotel is decent and is quite high tech in how the rooms are configured. The curtains are automatic, the dnd and house keeping request signs are all electronic and the cherry on top for me is the bathroom underfloor heating which is amazing. The reason I give it 4/5 is because a couple of things lacking from the perspective of convenience of customers. I originally wanted to give it a 3/5 but the hotel manager Christian was amazing in accepting critical feedback and genuinely interested in improving the guests' experience, so I give it a 4. Some of the inconveniences:
The plug points- there arent any international us friendly plug points near the bed. There are only 2 UK bedside plug points available, one on each side of the bed. Given the number of electronic items that need charging these days, it is a little inconvenient especially with an adaptor that fits awkwardly on these night attend plug points.
Bed side stands dont have much space. One of the bedside stand has a phone and a electronic clock and remote control and the night eye mask and ear buds , leaving very little space for anything else. If you plan to work late with your laptop and then want to leave it on the bedside stand, that won't be easily feasible. Anyway due to lack of plug points bedside, using laptop will be limited to until it runs out of charge.
Room size and inconvenient location of chair. The room size is pretty small, and the placement of the single person sofa is very weird. It faces the bed, which is opposing to both the tv and the windows. So the only way to watch TV is from the bed. I also had difficulty dining in the room, because the only available table has water on it and is too low, and there is no coffee table to dine on. if one had to be watching TV while eating, eating on the bed was the only option. The room doesn't have enough space for you to move the single person couch into a position where you can watch TV from it.
Absence of a bath tub - the room only has shower and a single wash basin and toilet sink. I wish it had a bath tub too, note that it is just a minor inconvenience, since the hotel does have a free spa and pool available for all customers.
Storage space. The room's only storage is located in the two almirahs present in the entrance. This storage includes a locker and mini fridge and mini bar, leaving only very limited space for your clothes. If you are planning to stay for longer and have many clothes and want to keep the used ones separately segregated by the type of clothing, you will have a hard time. There is also no space to keep your bags. I had to keep them just below the wall mounted tv by the wall because that was the only space available in the room.
Finding place to iron in the room- the room is so small and given plug points are limited, there isn't really a good place to open the iron board and iron your clothes. I had to unplug my electronics to use the bedside plug to use for the iron
Older TVs- the TVs in the rooms are old and do not have any casting ability or Netflix/YouTube etc. you are stuck with the...
Read moreUPDATE: We were given the opportunity to revisit and our experience could not have been more different. All areas were clean and tidy, the spa facilities were not overcrowded. We were able to sit on chairs and relax, sauna and steam had space - it was a really nice atmosphere.
Massages - as per last time - were superb. Special shout out to Agatha. We were there for the full 3 hours and made use of all facilities. Stayed for the tasting meal which was stunning. Complementary glass of prosecco was the perfect end to our afternoon. Thank you, we'll be back!
Terrible spa experience. Incredibly disappointed.
This was a Christmas present to ourselves - massage, 3 hour spa access and 3 course taster meal. Having visited the Montcalm at Marble Arch several times we were excited to try Montcalm East.
We arrived at the spa and after being welcomed, were promptly handed robes and towels. Upon entering the spa there were no available seats, every surface was covered by towels and empty cups - including the floor. The jacuzzi was full, the swimming pool was cold. We left our towels on someone else’s seat and used the steam and sauna - the sauna was not hot and packed with people, despite ‘max 4 persons’ signs.
We returned to the main spa/swimming pool area and the same group of 5 or 6 were still in the jacuzzi and no seats or beds had become available. We helped ourselves to water and sat on the floor by the pool.
After 20 minutes of hanging around we went to reception to see if the could tidy up some towels and free some seats and we were told ‘there’s 3 empty seats in the cold room’. A small, cold room with blue lighting. We decided to tolerate it for the next hour before our treatment.
Treatments were excellent- 2 express massages and one rose quartz facial. The highlight of the whole experience.
We returned to the spa thinking it would have quietened by this time, 17:30ish …. The pool now had a small family in there, 2 kids with armbands, playing, shouting and splashing. We returned to the cold room where a teenager was on his laptop, typing away. After 5 minutes we left.
We went to shower and change for dinner thinking we could salvage the afternoon, but there was no shampoo, conditioner or body wash in either the men’s or the ladies shower cubicles. By this point I was incredibly frustrated. We took our seat in the beautiful Restaurant for our three course taster meal, but were so disappointed with the entire experience we walked out.
Basically £100 each for a massage. Go on Treatwell and book with your local therapist. Shocking that this...
Read moreMy partner and I visited this hotel for his birthday and our anniversary. I had booked the Sky High package for a treat for us both after a busy few months. We were welcomed immediately by a lady who worked there who was really friendly and bubbly.
Our room was amazing, good vibes with the mood lighting, heated floors and a great view from the 16th floor. Bathroom was clean and good pressure shower. We definitely recommend the rooms! (Although we were a bit disappointed as the TV wasn’t a smart TV and only had a Sky box - we don’t watch TV so wish we had brought something to watch Netflix and Amazon prime on).
The spa was lovely, had such a relaxing vibe and had different rooms to unwind in: steam room, sauna, pool and jacuzzi and a room which was a bit cooler in temperature which was nice to hang out in! Spa was full with couples so we definitely recommend going if you’re in a couple.
As part of our package we had a three course meal at Moor&Mead. As it was my partners birthday we dressed up for the occasion however we found out the restaurant itself wasn’t actually open, and we had to eat at the bar which was downstairs. We didn’t have much of a problem with this however I would have like to have known prior that the restaurant itself was closed. We arrived at 9:20 and was told that the kitchen would close at 10pm which we had no problem with. However, the food was very very disappointing. My partner ordered a fried chicken starter which when arrived looked okay but when turned over was completely burnt. We asked the waiter to replace the chicken, to which he said it was meant to be like that. I explained that we wouldn’t want to eat it and he said they would get us a new one. While we were waiting for the replacement our mains came, we didn’t mind this as we knew the kitchen was closing soon, both my partner and I ordered the sirloin steak - cooked medium. My partners steak was cooked fine however mine was underdone. Both of ours also under seasoned with a weird tasting peppercorn sauce. The fried chicken started arrived which was again burnt so we didn’t eat it. The waiter came over and explained it was the honey on the chicken that created this effect. As someone who works in hospitality myself, if I had known this I would have asked for the chicken to come without the honey. This is at no fault to the waiter (also our bartender) as he was lovely and made a great cocktail! Desserts were okay.
We would stay again just...
