What a shambles! Firstly, after arriving at the hotel a payment of £21 was remaining, fair enough as this was outstanding from the breakfast we had added on late (£20) and the £1 was not taken from the initial booking so that they could verify me upon arrival. ||||After this, she asked me for ID which was scanned, why though I will never know. Its 1 thing to check an ID to make sure its the same person, but then to scan it!! WHY ON EARTH! ||||Secondly, after taking the remaining the deposit, they proceeded to tell me that there was no room in their "hotel" and that there was a problem, so we were having to move to their sister hotel which was a 25 minute walk away, this was an issue for me as I am not able to walk far distances. After informing the lady on reception on this, she told me that there was a £50 deposit required, via card only. I was not happy with this as this did not say this anywhere when booking.||||She then went on the phone and conveniently found a room for us in the original york "hotel" however required a £20 cash deposit, I said that this was not a problem however i wanted a receipt to prove that it had been paid. ||||Going up to our room, the door took a fair push to open, sticky. There was 2 double beds in the room although there was only 2 of us staying there. They weren't exactly clean but they were OK. ||||I went into what I could only believe was a en-suite. This was not the case, in there was only a wardrobe and a chest of draws which was only the housing, not fronts, not handles, no rails, hangers, hinges, nothing. The toilet was on the corridor, in the smallest of rooms. With only a toilet, an over flowing bin, 1 roll of toilet roll and the smallest of sinks which had a crack in it. The soap dispenser had no soap in and the hand dryer didn't work. ||||The curtains in the room were only net, this was not ok as we looked onto the main street and it was light until late, this was difficult to sleep in. The room was like sleeping in a sauna. The windows didn't open very far even with the clasp off. ||||When going down for breakfast the next morning we was told that there was no breakfast as the hotel didn't offer this service, I said there must be some mistake as we had paid for it when checking in. They then proceeded to tell me that there was a mistake. I showed them the receipt for the card transaction and they said that they were sorry and gave me a "voucher" and told me that the breakfast was at a hotel down the road. ||||After arriving at the hotel down the road the room for breakfast was full, we got on with this as this must have been a popular hotel in the area. However, breakfast, if you can even call it that, was atrocious! The beans were cold, the eggs weren't cooked, the bacon looked some what fried lightly, still practically pink! The sausages were like cardboard. the hash brows were awful! ||||The "Fresh" orange seemed diluted!! The yogurts weren't cold, there was no fruit and the bread was hard before it even went in to 2 hole toaster! I am not impressed!! by this point I couldn't even function! No sleep, no food, heat, is just a horrible combination! ||||There was toilet role stuck to the ceiling of the toilet and there was no working shower on my floor!||||Checking out, what a nightmare, we left at 8am because we just couldn't stay there a minute longer! There was ants crawling up the walls on the staircase, we got to the reception and handed back our keys, they took the keys and said everything was fine, after waiting for our deposit back to which she insisted that I hadn't paid. I argued and argued that this was not the case and that I wanted my £20 back, had it have been a nice stay and a pleasant breakfast id of let them keep it but there was NO chance! I didn't see this for 15 minutes! Ridiculous! ||||We didn't have breakfast on the second morning because it was so bad the morning before! ||||This hotel is the worst I have ever stayed in, worse than ever! ||||Stay away...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf there was an option to give this dive a 0 star rating I would have... Where to start?... The only positive thing is the fact this place is within close proximity to the train station, fantastic if you love trains because the radiator in our room didn't switch off so sleeping with the window open we had the lovely sound of train horns and the station tannoy keeping us up all night. The bed linen was nice and clean, pity it wasn't a bit longer so it covered the huge hole in the base of the bed. I wonder if the hole was made purposely in order for a rat to get out, then again I don't think the rats even wanted to stay inside as I only saw them in the outside space behind the hotel amongst the several tonnes of construction debris. Due to there only being one plug socket I had the choice between charging my phone or straightening my hair, safe to say my phone won as it was key to survival in this place as with no tv and no WiFi it was my only way of staying sane. Luckily there was a lovely hairdressers next door, a godsend really seeing as though no hair dryer was provided, although upon my inspection of the bathrooms I was reluctant to even use the toilet let alone wash my hair. The stench of urine was unbearable and maybe if the "housekeeper" who nonchalantly walked into our room at 9am took a bit more time cleaning the bathrooms it wouldn't have been so bad. Another good local facility is the cafe next door, seeing as though the "hotel" don't provide any tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms although judging by the cleanliness of the rest of the place I certainly wouldn't have used them anyway. I'm not sure what was more of an eyesore, the pile of prams and bikes at the bottom of the filthy stairwell or the penis that had been drawn on the wall in our room, or maybe the thick dust and rubbish behind the grate obscuring the window going down the stairs. Whoever gave this place the title of hotel can either not spell or needs a slap, hostel would be a more appropriate term and even then that's being generous! Safe to say will not be staying again, we endured one night in this hovel before checking out a day early and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSadly at the time of writing this im still here. This place is poor i mean really poor after taking a deposit to secure 2 rooms a triple and a double we arrive a couple of days later to be told those rooms aren't availible and well have to pay more to get 2 doubles and a single. The rooms are bare some have microwaves most dont. Most dont even have a kettle. Bars on the windows depress even further and the decor is plain at best although the odd blood stain etc adds a little something. Noise from the other rooms is barely muffled by the paper thin walls and the rattling light fittings are sure to keep you awake at night they are me. Bathrooms are shared and while there is more than one per floor its probably best to bring your own toilet roll because they rarely top it up and usually with the smallest role they can find. The cleaners will clean your room daily replace towels and remake your bed. Ive now been here a week and the bedding hasn't been changed yet so dont expect clean sheets just be grateful you have a sheet.
All in all if your looking for luxury this is not it. If your looking for cheap digs while working away in london then this will fit but dont be surprised to arrive and it cost more than...
