Box Guesthouse — Hotel in Newport

So... the company i work for booked me this guesthouse to stay for 1 night. I will be honest in this review of the box guesthouse.

On arrival i found it hard to locate the property so i had to call up. The was no carpark (if there i didnt see any signage) but street parking. Some streets have permit only. The one direct across the road doesn't, so i managed to park pretty close.

There are no on site staff just a ring type door bell. The guesthouse is code access only and room door code access.

The property is dated (70s decor)... so as anticipated there is a historic musk, creaking stairs, squeaky doors, the odd cobweb and dust stack.

I stayed in room 3 on the first floor. It was a small corner single room with toilet and shower. Small tv, kettle, tea, coffee, milk, sugar. 1lrg and small towel, and a floor towel neatly rolled on the bed.

The walls and decor show signs of age including the faded smoke infused curtains.

The toilet and shower room was really small. The toilet was raised about an extra inch off the floor, assuming it was like this so the soil pipe had flow.. the shower was not the best and had signs of mold on the tile grouting. Again not the best but it'll do.

Privacy was an issue in the shower as the neighbour windows are a reach away and my concealment was just a curtain. Now im not claiming to be a brad pit, but i dont want my todger on display, so i used the small towel as a curtain.

Sleeping was fine, bed was ok. The other guests were quiet enough. The room was really warm and opening a window didnt really help.

Bed side sink was running cold water from each tap i ran for a few mins hoping some sort of boiler would kick in, but it never. Cold wash for the morning.

All in all it was a room and the price sufficed. I didnt...

I was absolutely shocked by this guesthouse This was a last minute booking and for £105 for 1 night, it was seriously overpriced for what you got The room had mould in the corners of the room, the beds were cramped in and not practical to sleep on, there were damages to the wall's, paint damage, dirty sides, loose carpet, no toilet roll It was said in the confirmation there would be breakfast Inc, tho at 7.50am the dining room was locked, with no indication when breakfast was actually meant to be taking place I would not recommend this place to anyone... I've never been so quick to leave somewhere, like I was this place... Yes it was just a place to lay my head for the night, but for the money i was charged, I was expecting something a bit better than...

I booked this place as my 4 year old had a medical appointment nearby, early and had to be sleep deprived.

I left 20 minutes after I arrived. The place stunk of cigarette smoke. The chair was broke, it was filthy. We didn't sleep there. Cost £45 for a night. I sent then a video of the room and told them about the broken things, smoke and filth and have not heard back.

10/10 do not recommend. Wish I'd of read a review like this before I booked.

I am not a fussy person, i have stayed in hostels all around the world but this was worse than a £4...
