I visited yesterday with my booking. The restaurant and food were lovely. It was spoiled by a rude staff member. The waitress who served us was nice but the male waiter/chef was very rude. My friend has a severe peanut allergy where in the past she suffered an anaphylatic reaction and can lose her life if she eats peanuts as the airways close. We had looked online and there appeared to be no nuts on main menu. My friend politely pointed out that she has a peanut allergy and the waitress kindly noted it and said to the male waiter/chef who rolled his eyes immediately and walked away. There was no thought or consideration for her welfare. Whilst the waitress asked if my friend had medication on her in case a reaction occurred and explained all but the desert are nut free. The man was very rude and stormed off. I find that really unprofessional and insensitive, knowing that too many people fight allergies and people lose their lives unnecessarily from allergic reactions. His behaviour was rude and not compassionate as would have been expected. Upon reception of the bill, the man had written "Butt allergy" instead of nut allergy on the bill which may have been a mistake, however it came across insensitive. My friend then asked if they had any salt or pepper. The waitress then explained that she had been asking the owner for some more as they must be being stolen, however the owner doesn't like people putting salt and pepper on their foods as they have enough, also we were told that if we put parmesan on our fish and we have an issue with it or take it back, they won't allow us to have the fish back as the chef doesn't accept parmesan cheese going on fish. The food was okay. It was a lovely appearance of the restaurant and the waitress was helpful and nice. Just a shame about the way that my friend was treated who is currently going through alot with a close family member battling cancer. This treatment was the last thing she needed. We will not be returning to this restaurant. I hope that the waiter learns empathy and manners in the meantime as I honestly hope no one is treated unwelcome and like an outsider...
Read moreFew years ago we went to celebrate our 10th anniversary in Bath's Italian restaurant, we were very satisfied, so I thought an Italian restaurant would be perfect for my youngest daughter university graduation celebration. We live just few mins walk from Vittorio's, perfect if we'd like to have some drink, no need to drive home just walk. We've reserved our table in advance, went there on the big day, sat at table 7 of us, ordered some juice drinks, and the young men, the waiter, brought our drink HAND... not on plate, no, IN HAND.. I am not snob I swear, I am a lorry driver got used to low standard service in road side trucker service... But c'mon.. In a good looking Italian restaurant getting drink from hand? My family calmed me down, OK OK daddy, it's fine. The next move, when they brought our Alcoholic drink (do I have to say again in hand?) he said sorry we're out of stock in Martini Bianco... C'mon guys, it's not Tuesday lunch, it's Friday evening.. Didn't you know people going out to dine weekend days, Friday and Saturday? Another surprise, with my wife we ordered tequila, they bring it with NO lemon... Hhmm... Might be would be useful to learn how to serve different drinks... When we received our food, it was.. How to tell you... Expected more tasty... We're from Hungary originally, with quite spicy dishes at home, and as I know Italians also love spices... But somehow our food wasn't as we've expected. For a good portion of chicken breast I got 4 half baby potatoes as side dish... Really? 2 pc baby potato cut in half...it's a kid's size meal Obviously needed to order some extra fries. About the atmosphere.. The restaurant looks good itself, but instead of some modern dance music rather I would listen some authentic 60's 70's Italian songs.. After at all, the verdic is, likely won't...
Read moreI am a regular at this place and I thoroughly enjoy every visit, the starters are wonderful including fresh sardines in flour crumb and lemon and a wonderful rice cheeseball called anacroni (?). That is the kind of hearty food you want in a cold wet winter. I also love the Meatballs, whenever I go with my girlfriend we can't choose which starters to get so we get them all.
Then the mains, the steaks are really good, so is the veal; everything has that fresh chef cooked flavour to it and there is a sensible wine list to go with it. My favourite at the moment is the Pizza Diavolo, but ask me next week and I will have a different favourite, perhaps the veal milanese, or the lamb cutlets, so tender and fragrant.
Well after all that you will want a dessert and they have a fridge full of great desserts, you can look at them through the glass of the display cabinet. Every one is a winner, the Suchard of chocolate, the profiterroles in white or milk chocolate, or my favourite the tiramisu. I have tried them all, sometimes on the same night. If you order too much it is not a problem, they will box it for you just like in the States.
Service is always pleasant, sometimes there is a little wait but never too long. There are plenty of tables but there is never any overcrowding.
I have read some negative reviews, but I can't believe them, I must have gone here maybe 50 times and I have never known a bad dinner, there is of course some fluctuation as you would expect with freshly cooked food, but only between very good and excellent. I suppose some of the negative views come from people who sadly don't know what good fresh food is supposed to be like. As someone who has eaten in Michelin starred restaurants all over London and beyond I know good food. This...
