I’m going to explain my overall rating of 2*,
I was really upset with my private hire experience at the Belle Vue Park Tearooms for my babyshower. I have explained my feelings over email. But have since been ignored, but I just feel like my experience should be heard as it was really disappointing.
To keep this review as short but as true to how I feel as I can, I felt really let down!
The food however was lovely, hence the 4* for that. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon teas, that wasn’t the issue with the day.
The service however was poor, this is why that is rated a 1* The owner was away at the time of the event, there was lots of miscommunication between her and the staff. Which led to issues with the venue being decorated with the incorrect colour & issues with a vegan afternoon tea which they thought was GF. There was other issues mentioned to the staff as the day went on to do with table lay outs etc as 4 guests had to sit on a spare table with no table cloth / decor / crockery, which I felt so embarrassed about but I was told there was no spares at the venue… but these issues were dismissed and not resolved leaving me to feel super anxious and stressed trying to sort them myself. The staff definitely could’ve been a lot more attentive. Especially when I was trying to sort the 4 girls afternoon teas out as I had to go around finding the spares on everyone else’s to make up theirs due to children being at the tables which did put the numbers out. But I was not made aware that the children’s seats wouldn’t be allocated for so when parents turned up with children they sat down, set them up and made themselves at home! Started eating using the plates etc that were there, but after the event I was told the parents should’ve taken the plates from the children and given them to the 4 sat on the spare table! Again if I was made aware that there would be no plates provided for the children I could’ve made the parents aware of this and probably sorted the seating out easier and quicker.
I’ve rated the atmosphere as a 1* also, Because the reaction from the staff looking after the room when these issues were raised to them wasn’t nice to myself or my guests. Guests explained to me that they were asking for refills on tea / coffee and felt the staff were rude to them in response which made them feel really uncomfortable to go out into the main cafe.
I’d love to believe that this was just a bad day as I could tell the staff were stressed too, but I just can’t ignore how dismissive they were to the issues I brought to their attention which really is a shame because the venue in general is lovely and perfect for babyshowers, however I wouldn’t want to experience how...
Read moreIf I could I would put zero stars here. This is my second review of the cafe and the company and I really dispair where the proprietor is going with their disregard for their customers. I think the next step is to raise the issues with Newport Council. The service just seems to go down the hill still! I was turned away today with a fried as there were no tables available and it was raining heavily so out of question to sit outside. This would not be an issue but the 2nd tea room was open and empty. On enquiry if we could sit there, I was told it was booked for 38 afternoon teas. I asked if they were due imminently and whether we could use one of the tables for our hot food and hot drinks for half an hour as there was no one in there. I was told that the room was being set up and it was not an option. Both me and my friend are disabled and were quite appalled by the response/treatment. As a frequent visitor of the park, I feel the cafe's management lets the beautiful setting down. And then there is the issue of closing early which I raised previously. On number of ocassions I and my family/friends arrived around 3pm, only for the cafe staff to begin removing chairs and tables when sitting outside or cleaning and putting chairs on tables when inside, making it impossible to feel relaxed and welcome. As if saying, hurry up and leave. On another visit, my 4 year old was treated like a criminal for wanting to see the ice-cream - not opening the freezer but looking into it. And finally, and perhaps most importantly, not having the public toilet open after the cafe closes between 3.30 and 8.30 pm is not in line with the Newport council's EDI policy and makes people with additional needs or families with young kids dread visiting the park. I am one of them. To the proprietor, please do not scald me with your views and obtusive suggestions. I am unsure you are willing to take on customers' constructive feedback. When there is a will, there's usually a way. I am uncertain there is any will with the way you respond to reviews. And it shows you do not value your customers or...
Read moreWhat a shame this beautiful venue is so consistently marred by the rude attitude of some of the staff at Belle Vue Park Tea Rooms. I took my children there for a special treat and to warm up from the freezing weather but was rounded up whilst waiting in the queue by who I assume was the manager (brown hair in a ponytail, glasses, middle-aged) who aggressively suggested I might like to get a coffee from the van outside instead as they were 'busy' inside. Having ascertained the van only did takeaway coffee and was therefore unsuitable for young children I explained we'd be happy to remain queuing patiently which clearly annoyed her. It would appear that serving customers and running a thriving cafe in the current climate is not something this lady appreciates. I witnessed her virtually pushing other poor customers through the door and generally being rude, unfriendly and unsmiling. The food was ok but her attitude really put a dampner on our enjoyment of the visit. When I asked for salt to accompany my meal she openly rolled her eyes and gesticulated to a nearby windowsill, berating me with a 'see, you had it all long!' Of course, silly me, the salt in cafes is ALWAYS to be found on random windowsills 😳 The older man serving was equally unfriendly and walked past our table with our order a number of times despite us calling him. He then brought a number of things to our table that we hadn't ordered and seemed put out when we told him they were not ours. Honestly, it was chaos. So disappointing. On a positive note, the two young female staff were very friendly and helpful; the seniors could take note and follow...
