Quay Apartments — Hotel in Newport

Disappointing place. Apartment located on the 9th floor so a lift up. On entering the apartment, although clean it smelt of damp and stale air. We didn’t think anything of this initially, until we discovered that you couldn’t open any window at all, so stuck with stale air when inside unfortunately. The doorman on arrival said it was ‘great up there with good views’ sadly that wasn’t the case as we couldn’t actually see out of the windows as they were dirty so you could only make out shapes and light colours when dark. Basically felt like we were in a box with no air and no way of seeing out. The inside was to be fair well appointed and as mentioned nice and clean so this was a saving grace, despite the fan in the bathroom that sounded like a jet engine when you put the light on. All the information - including in the lifts - didn’t seem to match reality. There was supposedly a direct way to the adjacent car park where you have to leave your car as nowhere else to park, there wasn’t! Even the doorman hadn’t heard of this and asked where we had heard that - we said on the information in the lift!! The car park itself is truly awful, filled with litter, notices from the police about drug users and vagrants everywhere. No way out of the place other than to walk down the road as every other exit has a steel shutter pulled down closing it off. The whole place was full of water dripping through from above with some of the rusting steel showing through the concrete, along with the smell of urine, as clearly the place is used as a public toilet. Sad to say that we would not go back and were very disappointed as our short getaway was spoiled because...

The bed was sagging through in the middle by several inches, which made it very uncomfortable to sleep. There is no fresh air inlet in the bedroom. To get fresh air, one has to run two very noisy fans, one to get air into living room, and the other to move air from living room into bedroom. When switching off the fans, it gets hot and stuffy very quickly. So you can choose between very noisy or very stuffy. The bathroom had a light sewage smell, and the fridge was in a state. The parking garage was very dark and stank from urine. We cancelled our planned 4 night stay after the first night, when we were unable to get any sleep due to the uncomfortable bed and noisy fan/stuffy and hot temperature. When first checking in, as much as the woman on reception was lovely, for some reason I was told because I was from around the area that I had to speak with the manager and potentially wouldn't of been able to stay because it. I was not informed this would be an issue on the booking.com site nor was I told about a £100 deposit? I had come down for the night due to work going on at my house and wanted a break. I understood but felt like it was a criminal matter to of booked?||I also have not received my deposit back like promised?
