The owner is clearly an aggressive blameworthy person so IMO avoid..
We've ordered from this venue and the sourdough pizza is actually good but it's also good from the numerous other Italian restaurants in Manchester.
So I've tried phoning to book in the past and that time the owner responded and said he couldn't hear me but the thing that put me off was that I use my mobile phone constantly and here he is saying aggressively and in a blameworthy manner: "I can't hear you coz your phone signal is bad".
Well my phone signal is great as we have a mast on the next block of roads and I even get 1GB download speeds on mobile 5g signal off my phone.
Dare I suggest that the venue has a handheld phone or a bad reception? Of course the owner would probably start blaming and cursing as you can read in his childish review responses further down.
Anyway we booked at Salvis Italian restaurant on that occasion.
Anyway the reason I am giving Vero Moderno such a review is based on my latest surreal exchange with the owner which is detailed below:
I phoned in between my work calls and again he responded in his usual unpleasant abrupt manner and insisted he could not hear me and to call back.
I called back from my wife's phone and when he responded I suggested maybe their phone system had a fault or the handheld unit was too far from the base unit.
God ...... Maybe I shouldn't have dared to suggest that as he sarcastically retorted "No, it's at your end".
Ok..... So let's move to the booking bit.
So I asked for a table for 4 on Easter Saturday weekend.
He then read the T&C's out which included an upfront £40 deposit payable over the phone and part of which would not be refunded if any of the party didn't show.
He then asked if I was happy with that.
I responded nicely and calmly that I wasn't exactly happy but it was fine and acceptable.
He then responded that if I wasn't completely happy then perhaps I shouldn't dine at their venue to which I replied ok then.
No skin off my nose and TBH I don't know if it was because he is not a native speaker or if it's his nervous disposition but hey ho, how is he a good face for this restaurant or for Italian migrants?
I hope he is the sole investor because I will not order from there or ever set foot in the place again.
Ps: for legal purposes I'd like to point out that Google reviews works based on the level of anonymity that the poster desires so where he has accused posters of being anonymous I'd like to point him to the GDPR...
Read moreI am little bit confused. This place is famous in the area for the authenticity. Unfortunately all the plates we tried where flat with no character and some of them quiet bad. Trilogi of brusketa look nice and the portion is big but without something special. The carpaccio is a sad plate . No salt with dark in colour filet slices, no parmesan and a lack of salt, fresh olive oil or lemon juice. Gamberi in parcel was watery in the foil, small portion without the flavour of italy. Pasta plates come in good size but among others papardele are not fresh as the menu said and one simple plate with tomato and basil come with wrong size of spaghetti. All plates they need salt and the peper mile look like was rare and unique in the whole restaurants. Also very very annoying that the server come with a ball of parmesan and sprinkle just a small teaspoon in each plate. And parmesan was the only hope for some plates to be tasty. Service was weird too. A little bit italian tense between the servers. Pizza look good and maybe this is the hit of the place. The bill was quite expensive for 5 people with few beers and no desert. At the end we were still hungry and with mixed feelings.
Update. Thank you for your reply. The final amount was 45 per person and not 35. We had 3 starters and 5 mains. I am pretty clear in my critic. There is nothing unclear. I am glad for how famous your place is but you should know to react more kind in opinions you don't like. Of course there are many places but the kindness make the different. You are just a small restaurant no need this attitude. People use time to write something to help you. Use the comments to improve your job and do not underestimate...
Read moreWhen we entered today, the restaurant was empty, so we thought we could choose a table. The server mentioned: "it's a restaurant (I know that), and we do reservations". Most tables had reserved signs on it, I get that. After ordering food, he asked if we'd like drinks, and I said tap water please, and the response I received was insulting: "it's a restaurant, we don't give any tap water". Okay, honestly I know it's a restaurant and I've been to hundreds of them and quite a lot actually don't mind serving tap water. It's fine if you don't, just don't be insulting. Some restaurants do and some don't, so stop telling me again and again that it's a restaurant! I'm a doctoral researcher, educated enough to tell the difference. If we weren't hungry, I would've left, but luckily we stayed as the food was worth the wait, extremely delicious, yet still not worth facing their attitude. Fun fact, we finished lunch and left, whilst all the 'reserved' tables were still empty. I suggest reserving a table here, if you'd wanna feel more welcomed here. Regardless of how occupied or empty they are, walk-ins could be reminded again and again that it is a restaurant, and every other great restaurant you've ever been to, is less of a restaurant of they do it differently than this place, cause "this is a...
