Where do I begin? From the exterior of the Hotel, there’s a little work to be done but nothing that can’t be forgiven. The hotel is placed within beautiful grounds which are well kept and lovely for a short stroll. On arrival, my friend and I were greeted by a lovely young man, who was very helpful and polite. We requested late check out which was accommodated at the charge of £10 per hour, which we felt was fair.My only qualm is that use of amenities and how the hotel operates should have been explained upon our arrival; i.e. use of the pool, how to order breakfast etc. This could be given on a piece of paper with room keys and/or explained at the desk.Room 54. On entering our room itself , it was clean, and well presented apart from a few scuffs on the wall and red stain on the carpet by the door. My friend requested a twin room and the image on the website showed a twin room. We got a double but just pushed our beds apart because it wasn’t a big deal. The bathroom had the fixings from an old towel rail that hadn’t been removed. A new one had been put up but the old fixings left. There was also a crack in the shower tray and dials for the shower were broken. Working but missing pieces. Also, the bathroom door didn’t shut properly. It didn’t click closed. On a plus note, the beds were comfy and vegan body wash, shampoo and conditioner is supplied along with fresh towels.Once settled my friend and I wanted to order room service and watch Netflix after travelling. It was at that point we realised Netflix wasn’t working and was presenting with an error code and we did not have a phone in the room but there was a bare wire sticking out of a hole in the wall, where we imagined the phone should have been.We made our way to the reception to let them know of our issues and ordered the cheeseboard whilst there. The receptionist came to check the wire was safe, whilst he was there we explained about the bathroom door and Netflix not working. He told us he would talk to the manager about the other issues and get maintenance to sort phone and door. Nothing was resolved. The wire was shoved in to the wall and everything else remained the same. The cheeseboard arrived with 3 large pieces of cheese, grapes, chutney and 6 crackers which were stale. We attempted to pay for the room service but the card machine wasn’t working so we agreed to pay on departure. £17! £12 + £5 room service charge, which we would have been more than okay paying if we didn’t have to order it at reception and to be given such poor food. The next day we decided to have a drink at the bar. My friend ordered a bottled cider and I had a baileys. The barman gave us our drinks and my friend and I noticed I had a short measure. I politely asked the barman to give me a full 50ml measure as he’d only given me 25ml. He then became argumentative about my request but did amend after another member of bar staff gave him a disapproving look. On the last day we visited the pool which we discovered we had to request an access card from reception. There wasn’t enough towels so we were told one would be brought to our room. Again, we had to request it at reception. Once in the pool area, the panelling roof was slowly falling in and it was dark. Only lit by natural light on a murky day. The changing rooms were lit and clean but had no lockers for your belongings. The hair dryer was broken too. Lastly, we were due to check out at 1pm. We received a phone call to my friends mobile at 12:33pm about outstanding room service bill of £17. To say we were bitterly disappointed by this establishment would be an understatement. It was supposed to be an enjoyable getaway for two friends to celebrate a 30th birthday but it was nothing but an endurance test. We had high hopes for the hotel but it is in need of some serious TLC. It did have some good points, food was nice; we had breakfast on both mornings and there was plenty to choose from and overall the place was clean. The staff were friendly too but that’s as...
Read moreUpon arrival beautiful driveway to the venue well lit at night almost magical. £116 for one night bed and breakfast, chosen due to the close location to Harry Potter Warner Brother Studios (4min drive) we arrived late close to 9 on a Thursday due to traffic from Manchester and stopping for food. We arrived at reception to people in the bar/restaurant, which was reassuring as we was worried due to arriving later then our given estimated arrival. There was not a member of staff in sight a young girl did pass pushing a cart, that made direct contact with me 5min after arriving so we waited assuming some one would be coming. After 15min of waiting my friend went looking for a member of staff, which consisted of knocking an random doors around the lobby and bar. After 20min later a gentleman was found who through no fault of his own was unable to access the pc to check us in after another 20min and multiple failed calls for him trying to get access, he went to check a room and provided us with a key tand said he would check is in once it was sorted. Unfortunately I assume due to the faff at reception we weren’t provided with any information on the hotel such as breakfast times etc which to be fair I had forgotten to ask and realised when in the room as there was nothing to hand with this information on for the guests or on the app/website, not even the menu provided this information. Outside our room was a tray with half eaten food on on the floor and what looked like rubbish bags of some kind. The room wasn’t in the best condition, alot of ware and tare stains on the carpet, on the bed quilt were some brown dots which when I rubbed seemed like some kind of makeup powder that had splattered but not been disturbed till I touched it, which made me uncomfortable about the bed, it did look clean when pulling back the sheet and there was nothing on the pillows. The bathroom was clean. In the morning we checked out and asked about breakfast as I had paid for this as extra, but given the issues when booking in hadn’t asked. The lady at reception asked for the room number and said no breakfast is not included but you can pay £12 something when you’re in there… when we entered breakfast bar I had checked the booking to be sure to challenge it, but they asked our room number and we were on the list, which was a relief but obviously a contradiction to what we were told a reception, but from the demeanour of the lady at reception she wasn’t very happy to be there and seemed quite abrupt. It was early in the am, but i myself work in a job that sometimes requires me to be customer facing at a reception and weather it 7 in the am or late evening having a smile and a more upbeat attitude should be the bare minimum regardless of weather we like it or not and generally can make that difference in how peoples attitude towards you is effected. So I can imagine had it been someone else that had the same experience as myself that wasn’t as understanding and not confrontational then it would have been an entirely different interaction. Also given that this hotel was previously part of the De Vere group, which my friend had previously worked for under another hotel as a member of staff, they stated that this standard of hospitality wouldn’t have been acceptable at all and that it has gone down hill, because they had also previously stayed at this very same hotel when it was part of the De Vere group so can verify this first hand the difference not just from a professional stand point but as a customer. On a positive note breakfast was delicious a wide range of hot food, cereals, fruit, yogurt and granola.
Over all not worth the extra cost as as there was no higher standard at all. Should have booked premier in central with our other friends as we had to pick them up anyway so didn’t benefit from being 4min away from Harry...
Read moreIt was definitely an experience at Hunton Park, was it the best place i've stayed? No. Is it the worst? No way. There was almost a tale of two halves for our 2 night stay bought through Wowcher. Upon arrival all was well, check in was quick and although we were early, our room was ready. We made the trip to our room and I couldn't help but notice the carpets needed a thorough vaccuum (something I had seen mentioned on a Google review before we arrived) and some of the fittings were a little worn. Our room was nice and clean, but you really can hear absolutely everything that happens in the adjoining rooms and beyond (also mentioned on a similar Google review). We had bought some wine to have in the room which turned out to be corked - my partner went to the bar to ask for a corkscrew but alas there was only one and it had mysteriously gone missing. So no wine for us and a struggle of a first day for the barman. We had opted for dinner on the first night included in the Wowcher deal which was fine, but ultimately we left with the feeling that we didn't quite get the best treatment due to this for some reason. When I enquired about our welcome drink our waitress said she'd check it out and that was the last we heard about it until another waitress confirmed after our meal that the drinks we'd had were free. If I'd have known I'd have had a larger drink! I asked for ketchup during the main course as our meals were simply put down in front of us with no offer of condiments, with which I was given a pot of truck-stop sachets to fight with. I noticed later on that another table had recieved a fresh pot of ketchup from the kitchen when they asked. Maybe they hadn't paid with a Wowcher? Who knows. We retired into the bar after a walk on the lovely grounds and alas the poor barman (who was still on his first day) was waiting for the card machine to put through another table's drinks. Unfortunately, there is only one card machine and it was being used. So after 20 minutes and some light hearted banter we could finally order our drinks, my partner got 2 pints as he thought it best not to go up again. We opted for an early swim the next morning before breakfast, the pool was a lovely temperature and it was a decent size. However, walking into the changing room we were met with what I could only describe as the smell of a prison riot. There was an abandoned trolley full of dirty towels in the middle of the room, rubbish discarded about the floor and one of the toilets must have had a blockage or something. I reluctantly used the room to get changed after the swim but I could only hold my breath for 30 seconds! Breakfast was very nice, all self service and everything we wanted was hot and fresh. We were out all day in London so didn't return until 10pm - when it was relatively quiet, but we had to head back to reception as our key had suddenly stopped working. Then came check out day, when we were packing we were delighted to hear the residents next door singing at the top of their voice (and not very well) so we decided to just get breakfast and head home. Again, breakfast was fine and we packed up ready to check out - after having our key reset one more time as it had stopped working again. On the way back to reception with our luggage I noticed the same piece of confetti on the hallway floor that was there when we checked in. Check out was very quick though, they didn't even ask how our time had been! Not sure they'd have liked to hear this very long essay, but I hope it might help some other prospective guests decide on...
