I rate it Ok because the reality is too far from expectation, and it's not good value for money. Architecture: the iconic comet building is only made partially good with the rear side looking like a small factory from my hotel window, very disappointing; Hotel Block: Pay £130-140 exc. breakfast and you will be put in the new block as part of the university student accommodation development. It has its own entrance that is not welcoming to guests. Despite a new building, there's an unpleasant smell everywhere and the corridor carpet looks very dirty. This has been the worst hotel arrival experience I have had in recent years. Room: quite spacious with proper furniture, e.g. workable desk, etc. and the sockets are abundant and practical; air conditioning can make it very warm; the bed is very wide and comfortable which is the highlight of the stay. My room is facing the highway and the huge roundabout so the view is very special... Bathroom: the shower is very good but the screen does not stop water from spraying to the tiled floor, which is H&S hazzard and will be a costly repair job for the hotel. In addition, the extract fan does not work so another issue for the hotel. Hotel Staff: generally speaking they are good with a couple of quite experienced; young and new are Ok and very casual which does not quite fit the 'luxurious' claim. Summary: Don't be fooled by the website - I would not have chosen it if I knew I'd stay in the adjacent new block. It'd be better if the hotel made it more transparent. Even with the current high energy costs, I think it'd be fair for the hotel to charge £80 exc. breakfast for a standard room in the new block, as it really feels like a higher grade student accommodation. Bear in mind, both your business and customers are in a cost-of-living crisis. Otherwise, a genuine ( not necessarily bad ) review will be very costly for...
Read moreMy husband and I (& 50 others) enjoyed celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary here a fortnight ago with afternoon tea.We were assisted in the planning and preparations by Saania who always maintained a gracious and helpful attitude. The team who helped with setting up, food preps. and serving were helpful, prompt, and always available when needed. The facilities were well cleaned and maintained throughout the whole event. As there was no place to hang coats we simply used our own mobile coat rack and set it up in the foyer. The food (always important) was served in two stages, on the advice of staff and this was definitely the best way to do it. There was plenty for everyone, though we got different sandwiches to what we ordered, the food was fresh, tasty and nicely presented and staff quietly kept the space tidy. A comment on the space/size of room. We did not want a sit-down/dinner event but instead wanted space for people to move around and mingle so we took away some tables and spread chairs around. This enabled us to accommodate the 53 people with ease. Now onto cost. For Saania's help in planning the event, the staff support, quality of the food, facilities, the location and the immense enjoyment of all who attended, it was certainly worth the money. Would we hold another event here again? Yes happily. Thankyou to the staff at Comet for helping making our...
Read moreMy fiancé arranged for us to stay over (room 105) as we had booked at the Harry Potter studio tour and the Comet was one of the hotels included in the deals, the building is lovely, well looked after and well presented.
Reception was a friendly experience and very helpful, room was spacious for the two of us, if being fussy the only thing missing was normal tea bags although a large selection of fruit teas, and shower screen wasn’t enough to stop water going out on to the tiled floor.
Meal at the restaurant was lovely, and as it was my 40th a nice little touch of happy birthday written into the plate my pudding came on, the only downside to the restaurant was a large group who were drinking which is fine and was not an issue, the was an older female who was openly vaping where they were sat and did this several times in front of staff.
The bad was amazingly comfortable but the reason I can’t give a 5 is the level of noise that came from the student accommodation, it started t 02:20 with loud music and a lot of people running around a just being loud, I appreciate its student accommodation and students will be moody at times, but even with the window being closed it was still loud and disturbing, one of the main reasons I found it annoying is my fiancé is 38 weeks pregnant and finds it hard to sleep well at the moment, one bonus was the music they were playing was...
