Ann and Terry Miller gave the warmest welcome to us in beginning of 2020 winter in safest manner! They found a way to create safe and super-clean environment, they assisted us with transportation to the EarthSong Lodge & Denali Dog Sled Expeditions for our dog sled tour.
They cooked amazing breakfast meals - omlets, pancakes, with great coffee. They overall helped to get exactly the perfect Interior Alaska experience for us. The hosts picked us up from the train stop area, where we took off the Alaska Aurora Winter Train a few miles out of Denali: this point is essential to understand - it's Alaska, it's actually required to make sure somebody picks you up when you get off the train in middle of Denali area. I appreciate this greatly. The hosts were tremendously helpful in discussion of arrangements of the trip much in advance before we travelled, answered all of my questions going above and beyond with politeness and true genuine care. We knew we could fully rely on them when planning the trip in winter to Denali, where all the rest of hotels around Denali National Park were closed. The hosts did assist us with transportation to Denali National Park and back when otherwise getting there and back in middle of winter and finding other transportation would be a bit of a challenge. The hosts helped us to get to the Three Bears grocery store and back.
The Denali Dome Home is a large geodesic dome in the Interior Alaska. It's built as a giant sturdy shelter to withstand those Interior Alaska winds with 50 mph blasts. It has multiple rooms, but at the time when we stayed there was only one other guest. So the place was super Zen and quiet. The room we stayed in had a fridge I could comfortably use to store my food at, an additional portable heater, and we loved letting fresh air in when needed through solid built windows we could open. The shower was super-clean, great temperature for warming up after roaming around in cold outside, the white towels were of awesome quality and were provided in abundance. The room was sheltered from any noise at the house whatsoever, it felt very peaceful.
I enjoyed browsing through the two walls wide collection of books at the main area of the house - what a perfect way to share about beauty of the area! I loved sitting at the quiet main area during endless dark mornings in this main are where guests can hang out - the fireplace area. The hosts kept the fire during evenings, which made it absolutely perfect for observing Healy mountain range from indoors through the large windows enjoying reading.
There is an old adorable shy Scottish Terrier dog in the house that came out to welcome us once, but we haven't seen the dog more then couple of times. Overall the place was that Home for a few days for us we so were looking forward to when we planned the trip a few months in advance.
There is an ice skating rink right across the house! Looks like local kids love it ! I wish I spotted it in advance, as I would have brought skate to enjoy the rink. As a runner I enjoyed running at trails and neighborhood roads around the Dome Home, to the Alaskan Coffee Bean café and back which is about a mile from the house.
Highly recommend and hope this...
Read moreWe stayed at the Dome Home in August 2023 just a ways down from Denali National Park. We had a wonderful trip thanks to Ann, Terry and Bart. Ann especially helped us out with planning our train rides and making reservations too. She also can help with other things too, but we had already planned that before we found them. We were picked up at the train station and brought back to Dome Home. Terry gave us a bunch of ins and outs – some Ann had mentioned before hand like the tour buses and some was new information about navigating parking etc.
This is not a hotel, but a bed and breakfast, which was perfect for us. We got a simple breakfast that either Terry or Bart made for us. I usually went for the French toast with some eggs. My wife liked the waffles and bacon. Then we were off for that day.
The place was very clean, which is nice after being out in wilderness. They were all very knowledgeable and helpful, but also nice to talk with on a personal level, if they had a minute or two. The room was small and cozy; had everything we needed.
We rented a car from them, so we could do what we wanted, when we wanted. Many of the hotels and lodges nearby might have shuttles, but limits your ability to explore the area.
They have a couple of Scottish Terries name Little Bear and Honey that loved to be outside most of the time. The were inside the day we were leaving and be warned, if you pet one – the other will seek you out for their share. I spent ten minutes sitting on the floor petting these two and then they followed me around. ☺
We met some workers from Anchorage that were staying there and gave us a bunch of ins and outs. Never got their names, but if you read this we wanted to thank you. We did eat at the Haute Quarter Grill and glad we did before they...
Read moreThis is such a lovely place to visit and stay. The photos are accurate but don't fully show how roomy and comfortable the space is. Terry and Ann have made this such a comfortable space with all the amenities. The room was large with a comfortable bed and large closet. The bathroom is large with great lighting, big shower, shampoo, body wash and conditioner, lotion, and more. |On the ride from the train station, Terry points out where to buy groceries, gas, park entry, park buses as well as cautioning about the speed limits. They also give great suggestions about getting around the park and restaurants in the area.|Breakfast is made to order and served family style. Some of the best breakfast I've had anywhere at any price. Eggs cooked to order, french toast, pancakes, waffles, fresh fruit, homemade jam, coffee, juices, sausage. Great value and so convenient. And a great opportunity to meet others staying at the Bed and Breakfast. A family of 10 (with small children) were staying in the basement. The place is so larger we didn't hear anyone else unless we and they were in the common areas. Most of the time, people are out and we had the living room to ourselfes.|Bonus: The only moose we saw on the trip were outside in the yard. So fun to watch them come up to the salt lick and stay for a while. We saw them several times.|You will need a car to get to and from the Park. We rented one from Terry which is how we found this...
