Hampton Inn & Suites Alpena — Hotel in Alpena Township

My son wanted to stay here for his 5th birthday but they didn't finish the hotel in time so fast-forward two years later it just opens. No biggie. We book a room for his bday. Paid extra for the cancelation fee. Go to check in lady gets me all set then proceeds to tell me the pool hasn't been ok'd to use. Like what? That's the whole reason we came. She sent me off saying she couldn't get ahold of her boss but my refund would be after we were scheduled to leave tomorrow. Ok no biggie. Very disappointed with this location. I booked a weekend for my daughter's birthday. She has autism and really wanted to stay there and swim in the pool. The pool is not open! The site makes no mention of this and I was not informed at check in. There is only a small sign on the door to the pool area. My daughter and I were already in our swimsuits when we made the discovery. They told us we could go to their sister hotel (the Holiday Inn Express across town) to use their pool. Really? Recently opened, you could smell the freshness inside, everything was spotless clean. The room we booked was satisfying, spacious and cozy. The breakfast was like in all Hampton’s good and tasty. Have to mention that the staff was very friendly and helpful, especially the young lady that checked us in and out, i apologize for not getting her name.
