Alpena Resorts — Hotel in Alpena Township

Traveled to Alpena from California for the MATE ROV competition. Had to book pretty last minute with what was available. With that, we got incredibly lucky to stay at Alpena Resorts!

The staff were not only friendly, but downright the most hospitable hosts I've ever had the pleasure of interacting with. Nancy, the owner, is an incredibly kindhearted and thoughtful woman. That's not even to mention the other ladies and gentlemen that worked the front; chatting, helping, and supporting us the whole time!

For our competition, we needed a pool to practice in. Their pool normally closes around 10 PM. However, the night staff talked with Nancy's son, and he allowed us to stay in there literally all night, every night we needed to, so long as we took care of the place and closed up when we were done. Having talked with other competing teams, out of all the other hotels in the area, Alpena Resorts was the only one who gave this level of support.

One day, we were at the competition and needed some items that were stored in our rooms. One of our mentors went back to grab them via public transit, however the bus wouldn't return back to the NOAA center until much later. Nancy offered to bring our mentor and supplies to us, despite not gaining anything from it.

Additionally, on our final day, Alpena Resorts allowed us to check out late, store our luggage in the breakfast room, and put perishables in their backroom fridge until we were set to leave later that night.

This is by far, one of the BEST hotels I have ever stayed at! After a very long 26 hour drive I arrived to check in for a 2 night stay, the man at the front desk was super nice. I received a call the next morning stating there had been a mistake with my card at check in and I was not charged for my stay. I immediately went to the office. There was a sweet man working the desk and the owner, Nancy, came over and personally apologized. She gave me her business card, and wrote her personal cell phone number on the back and said if I had any issues to call her.

The rooms were very nice! The beds were clean, smelled great, and comfy. The bathroom was also immaculately cleaned! They had the cutest little shampoo and conditioner samples. The water pressure was great, there was also a nice hair dryer. In fact, it worked better than my personal one! I visit family in Alpena often and I will stay here every time I am in the area. Alpena resorts, formerly Best Western is one of the most friendly hotels i have ever stayed in. We rolled up in two big trucks and were happy to see a truck parking section complete with plugs and cords to keep our diesels warm. After check in the owner even walked out with cords to be sure there enough accommodations for all. The common areas were very well maintained from the lobby to the pool. Our rooms were clean and seemed recently remodeled with new paint, carpet, bedding, and furniture. Unfortunately due to COVID there was no continental breakfast but the area was clean and waiting to extend even more hospitality to future quests. Overall this was truly one of the most friendly and clean hotels i have ever stayed in where the owners ask you if there is anything they can do for you everytime they see you.
