Visited Alpine for training at one of the only times when everything is packed. The room block at the host hotel ended up being full, so I was stuck scrambling. This was the last resort. The office had a musty, old smell and the room was significantly worse. It smelled like dog and was super dated. Considered leaving…but I’d already called or been LITERALLY everywhere else & figured I wouldn’t be in the room much. On the first night as I was sleeping, one of those huge flying roaches landed/fell on me. Tore the bed apart to make sure it wasn’t still there. EWW! Is all I can say. It looked like on the top sheet had been changed in a LONG time. There were stains and grossness of all sorts. I slept on a hard plastic chair. In the morning I spoke to the front desk to have the room “thoroughly cleaned” or I’d be checking out. When I got back from training, the bed was made & the room was put back together. I took it on face value that they’d cleaned it. I changed and left for a dinner meeting. When I got back I was about to shower when I saw that it was dirty. Which led me to look further and discover the dirt caked into the floor along the baseboards, and the trim that appeared to have been chewed/scratched by a large dog. I could go on, but you get the point. Even as a last resort I’d think long & hard about staying here. A sleeping bag on the forest floor with no cover would feel cleaner & safer. And cheap doesn’t make it worth it. I almost forgot to mention, I learned from the local class attendees that this place is a “drug den” and the cops are regularly there. BTW…those attendees are cops & firefighters, so… JUST DON’T DO IT

After a booking error with pre-booked accommodation in Marfa on a holiday weekend, I had to come to Alpine and find a place to stay with my dog. I'm grateful the Oyo was accommodating, and the manager was very kind and helpful. Another positive is that the water pressure is really good, which was a relief as I was craving a shower after a long day of travel on a really hot day. On the downside, they rooms are what you would expect from a motel at this price, not great. I was also traveling alone, and on the Saturday evening during my stay, there were lots of seemingly local young men coming and going in the parking lot which left me feeling unsafe. Wouldn't recommend for a female solo traveler, but not bad for a group or couple who just need a room for the night.

★★☆☆ROACH MOTEL☆☆☆☆ Rooms look nothing like the advertisement Whoever does housekeeping should be fired. The room was filthy and furniture looks like it came from a trash pile. The first thing I saw were two guys yelling at people and obvious drunk. Couple hours later there was a disturbance between a couple guys and police were handling it. They had broken some stuff. The parking is a joke. They have several people staying in a room and taking 3 to 4 spaces. The room smells really bad like mildew, roaches and it took 13 minutes to get a trickle of hot water. I could go on and on about the place. You get what ya pay for that's why it is so cheap.

This was likely the worst hotel experience I have ever had. And if the four of us had not been backpacking for four days and we were not exhausted and it hadn't been already 11 PM when we got there we would have left.

A short example of what was wrong with the room.

There were seven light bulbs in the room and bathroom, four of them were either missing or burned out. The air conditioner did not have any buttons, I was able to use a pen and push randomly to get it turned on. The room clearly had not been cleaned. One bed had a comforter put on, but no sheets on it. The other bed had sheets, but there was crumbs and hair and other evidence that these were not clean sheets. We went down and got clean sheets and put them on ourselves. The bathroom was full of mold. Not a little bit but much of the shower and much of the window above the toilet was covered in mold. The plugs were so loose we had to prop things under them to keep them in the sockets. There was a good size pile of sunfower seed shells in the middle of the floor between the beds. The shower head was physically at about 5 ft. I am about 5' 8" and the shower head was below my chin and two of the guys I was with are over 6' 3". There had been a mirror in the bathroom, but there was no longer a mirror in the bathroom. The toilet hadn't been cleaned and the bathroom floor looked like it had been mopped quite a while ago in the past with really dirty water and the area behind the toilet was even worse.

The hotel was near the train, which is not the fault of the hotel, but train whistles were quite loud going through town. We checked for evidence of bed bugs but did not see any, which is good.

We did move rooms and this was the better of the two rooms we were in. We didn't ask to move a...

I haven't had the time or energy to give all the details (or interent) before this. Why? Because I have been sick! I cannot prove I got sick from this experience but this IS what happened. Monday the 14th I arrive at the reception desk. This man comes from the back room and hocks a loogie into the trash can and then turns to me. While he is processing me he is coughing loudly directly at me without covering his face or turning his head. I almost left at that moment but did not because I had already paid online and had been driving all day. As soon as I entered the room past the dozen or so cigarette butts outside my door, I realize I am going to need a large handful of my sanitizing wipes to not get creeped out by the lack of cleanlineess. I wipe down all the door knobs, light switches, toilet and tv remote, etc. Some of the wipes our coming out yellow. For the price I didn't expect much, but they don't even try. I have spent the last few days (started Thursday) with a cold and fever in the worst way as well as a series of bug bites on my leg. Can I prove it is from the guy coughing right at me and bed bugs, No, I cannot. But the timing is sure amazing. If saving money is your thing, then this is the place to go. I however, will not be...
