Actually, 3.75 stars. For the money, this is a good hotel. Saw two rooms, stayed in one. Will explain in a minute. Rooms were clean, beds were nice, large flat screen tv's. It's been remodeled in the last few years, and as is common from what I've seen with older properties, they replaced the carpets with tile (or wood) flooring. Nice looking, easy to clean.
Room 1... larger table and fridge with freezer. The nicer of the two. On the back side of the hotel, I didn't like that location for parking, but not that big of a deal. What I did find to be the big deal was, is that the room SMELLED. I couldn't tell you exactly WHAT it smelled of, but it was strong, overpowering, and just unpleasant. I looked around closely, it wasn't a dirty room or unclean, hidden linen or under furniture. I figure, since there was a small amount of mold on the a.c. , that it had to do with the mold or chemicals used to clean it or attempt to keep it under control.
Unsure of the odor, but unwilling to deal with it, I approached the front desk for a room change. Front desk folks were very nice each time I dealt with them, at check in, check out, to purchase a beverage, eat breakfast, and for this. They politely changed me into another room, apologized for the smell, and were great to deal with.
Room 2... same size room roughly. Same basic layout. Bathroom was smaller. Don't try to shut the door while sitting on the toilet, you'll have to rotate. Instead of the tall, 5' fridge with freezer, this room had a micro fridge under the sink area counter and the coffee and microwave were also in the nook here instead of out in the room on their own. Also, the 2 person table in the first room with a dedicated chair, became a 24" round cafe table and you had to use the desk chair across from the bench seat with the table. OTHERWISE....Room was just as nice and clean, same comfortable need and large t.v.... AND THIS ROOM SMELLED ALSO... I thought it was a pesticide smell and figured it would dissipate (it didn't, I was wrong), and my girlfriend says it's black mold and mildew. (Hard to say, though it doesn't smell like any that I've encountered, which is periodically in my line of work, but not all smell the same either). Either way, we toughed it out for the night. She woke up with sore throat and nose from the smell... I didn't notice it unless I stepped outside for fresh air and then back in.
Breakfast... they have a nice little continental breakfast to offer. Sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy, cereal, bread, toast, waffles, bagels, fruit, juice, coffee... ...BACON WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE, IT'S PRETTY STANDARD ELSEWHERE... (I kind of expect it with a continental since the majority have it). The staff were fast to keep things filled, trash emptied before it hit full, rugs kept clean, tables and chairs stayed wiped down pretty quickly after being vacated. Great job other than lack of bacon.
At checkout, I discussed the smells with the desk clerk. Told her about the two rooms. Said we figured probably mold or pesticide. She replied that proved her point she had been telling her bosses. That point, that when the pesticide companies come out (they use Nader's Pest Raiders, a very good company here in Jacksonville), that they need to isolate the treated rooms because the smell of the pesticide travels to the other rooms. I suspect by permeating the walls, as there is no central a.c..
IN SUMMARY...
Given that this is one of THREE hotels on Mayport road, and the other two have been built from scratch, not remodeled, my next local stays will be at each of those. After a comparison, I'll decide which of the 3 to come back to. This visit, I simply had picked QUALITY INN based on excellent past experiences within their family of hotels. Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe ck in 1/25..we had a very unpleasant stay with this place ..when we walked in there was another person infront..after him she didn't even bother to ask..we have to tell her we needed a room..and ask if they have military discount..I also told her that I also saw a diff price on line..she just abruptly said that's online and not here very rudely.. after she ck us in just told us we are on the second flr and the stairs..He have two hip surgery but bcoz of some extreme circumtance we forgot to ask for the ground flr ..so he was having a hard time climbing the stairs..so we went down the frt dsk so we can extend two more days..that was a guy this time and told him that we needed to extend and request to be transferred to ground flr and told him the reason was..he told us that the owner as much as possible does not like it..so we were frustrated and decided we'll just ck out the next day..then he told us to our surprised that their's an elevator at the end of the hallway..why is that the frt dsk that ck us didn't tell us where the elevator was is beyond me..she already gave us the attitude at the ck in.. next is when I came down and ask her if there's another ice machine coz the one on the second flr was out..she looked up and condescendingly told me it was on the third flr..went to the third flr and the same happened..no ice was coming out..so I called her fr the room and told her both ice machine was out and thank her..was surprised when she called me back and told me sarcastically that there's ice and I should stand infront of it and wait and slam the phone on me..then she called back again and I just let the phone ring coz I was thinking this woman is unhinged..when he went to the frt desk coz his key didn't work..he said she was ranting on him about me and the ice machine..he said he just looked at her and walk away coz he didn't understand what she's ranting about coz he just came to redo his key for he just came out of the bar of the hotel..the next day I was going to throw some thrash and saw the ice machine was taken out..ck the third flr and the ice machine still wasn't working..then a gst saw me and told to go the hotel bar and they will give me ice..when I called her about the machine she could have told me I can go to the bar for ice but she told other gst that..I have worked with Marriott Sawgrass..Courtyard Marriott and Navy Lodge..if we ever become biligerant to clienteles we will not be written up but let go..we also observed that she's always outside on her phone smoking cigarettes..the reason we saw this is the rm is closer to the exit through the frt dsk so we always see her out smoking and on the phone..we really don't deserved this kind of treatment from Amanda..and if your video is working..you can see it..we wonder if it's because we're military retired so she acted this way to us..other than her the other frt dsk white lady was pleasant saw me walking up and ask if she can help me..when I asked her if the pool gate was open coz I was thinking of getting some sun and she told me yes and even walk with me just to make sure and we both found out the bldg was on the way so I just thank her and proceeded to walk outside..this white lady is pleasant and accommodating..I will also add that I treated the housekeeping for a large pizza coz they work hard.. though we really don't bother them coz all this time we have DND on the door coz we are not staying long enough except to trade in new towels..this hotel have potential if only have chosen the right person..it doesn't matter whether it's a two star hotel it's the way how the employees are treating...

When it's 2am your in the bed theirs banging on your door like some animal front desk said whos taking a shower we have a leak poring down stairs. We say like a hour ago. We go to bed after they check the room no leaks here. Then 3 more times while we are sleeping having to go to work early so we had no sleep they did not change our room. They was banging on other guest rooms trying to find the leak. Then at 5am another rep that I know came to our room and said water was poring down stairs I said y'all just woke us up again we are in the bed been trying to sleep if y'all think it's from our room then move us or something I didnt pay almost 100 dollars to be woke up all night. She checked the room it was clean no leaks. So I went to the sink to brush my teeth the water was shut off. So nobody got to take a shower nothing. So we just tidy the room and left for work. Checked out. Never did we make a complant we was just so tired after working all day we wanted sleep. Later that evening after work we decided to get another room because the job was to take a few more days to complete. The front desks said we could not stay their and could not give us one reason as to why. We was put on a dnr list. So all night your staff wakes us up because you have a leak in your lobby and we was never rude our room was clean we did not make noise just trying to sleep. We did not take no showers due to your leak and not once complained. Then came back to find out your hotel put us on a dnr list and can't give a reason. Damn right you cant give a reason because their was never a reason to begin with. I really hope people read this review because In do see that this hotel has been getting a lot of negative reviews and now personally I see why. This is really piss pore management bad business. Considering we do know alot of people who travel for not just work but for vacation...word of mouth is the best and it can make you or break a company. I know this first hand owning my on business. Word of mouth is better than any post bord or advertisement. You need to clean up your hotel and its not so much the rooms it the staff and piss poor management who is out to lose customers good paying ones at that. Ps just for the record before they told us about the leak it was my husband who took a shower no one else had one. I really do hope that Corp. reads these reviews. Your staff is hurting this hotel and its repitation. My father is vice president for Hess polyurethanes and is best friends with Mac Hess and yes they also have dealings with BASF multimillion dollar company if not more. They do travel a good bit and will be visiting atlantic beach. I will make sure to let them know where not to be staying.Just Also I have noticed you get feed back on a good review. Others don't...
