Stayed for four nights in early Feb 2024. The rooms are excellent - big windows, extremely wonderfully comfortable bed with lots of pillow choices, and thoughtfully designed bathroom with a cabinet for storage, sleek and modern shower with adjustable showerhead, great towels/linens. Windows are strange (need three hands (!?) to open them) but the thermostat is modern and enables micro-control of temperature and fan. Looking forward to staying here on my next trip to JHU!
Superb location across the street from JHU, very convenient for meetings on campus or accessing public transportation to other parts of Baltimore.
Enjoyed a drink at the bar one night and dinner the next - everything we tried (short rib gnocchi, bibb salad, cheese plate) was excellent, and the staff (especially Alexis and the female manager with long hair and glasses) were thoughtful, kind, and fun to talk with!
Did not park a car so can't comment on that.
Some minor constructive criticism on the rooms: blackout shades will be necessary as the recessed shades do not actually block light. It would be nice to offer an electric kettle and coffee/tea in the room as the morning coffee/tea offerings are only 8am-10am, the great coffee shop/bookstore next door closes at 4pm, and some people like to make tea in the room at night especially in cold weather. We didn't find enough electrical outlets in our room to charge devices for two people, so perhaps some extension cords? There is also only one knob for hanging a towel in the bathroom. All minor and fixable concerns that should not detract from our excellent experience staying there. This is my new favorite place to...
Read moreFirst off I want to thank the Study for its sponsorship of the Baltimore Book Fair. It is a great and necessary event, especially in these times, and I appreciate businesses that support it.
My thoughts about the hotel: I’m told the owner wants to cultivate a culture of community in the lobby, aka a “living room.” To this end he has not supplied the rooms with coffee/tea makers, refrigerators, access to ice machines, etc. You have to go downstairs for everything, which is so annoying, especially this past weekend when we were on a tight schedule and only one elevator was working. Yes, they will bring things to you if you call the front desk but that just takes more time and lots of dollar bills in tips. On top of the inconvenience, The coffee/tea station in the lobby was out of caffeinated tea; the hot water to make the tea was not so very hot, and it tasted of coffee.
The hotel is definitely attractive and the bed was comfy, although the pillows were not. The Kleenex box was virtually empty and the shower products had a terrible “lime/coriander” scent. Clearly, the person who selected them is not one of the many people for whom cilantro/coriander is an unbearable smell (yup, I am one of them.)
All in all, I’ve stayed in worse places. It just feels like standard amenities are missing and I want to let the owner to know that the inconveniences associated with his “communal lobby” concept have caused me to rate this place a 2.5. I gave them an extra half point for their support of...
Read morePerfect Hotel Experience. There are surprisingly few options for lodging near Johns Hopkins University. The Study at Johns Hopkins, (6 months old as of this review) is right across the street from campus and near a fledgling (developing but not there yet) shopping and dining area just east of campus. If you can afford it I can’t imagine a better place to stay in this part of Baltimore. We flew into BWI, took a cab to the hotel and were easily able to amuse ourselves for the three days we were here for graduation. Friendly staff. Immaculate rooms with very comfortable beds. Coffee in the mornings and cookies and fruited water available all day. Due to graduation schedules and wanting to experience the area around JHU, we did not have time for a full restaurant experience but did sample excellent cocktails, a cheese board, Brussels, and wines. If having breakfast you must order a side of berries. Hopefully they will still be putting their honey-mint glaze on them. 😋 Highly recommend if you have reason to be in the area. Might consider this hotel if in Baltimore for other reasons. I’m uncertain about how reasonable it would be to commute around town from here. But you and Google should be able to figure that out. When booking around graduation I would highly recommend calling the hotel. Rooms book up fast. They also sequester specifically for graduation weeks. I called pretty much immediately when we figured out when our kid’s commencement was to...
