The death of a family member meant a sudden trip to Bennington to take charge of his affairs. I needed a pet-friendly hotel close to downtown, as I'd suddenly inherited a cat. A friend recommended Paradise Inn over the chain hotels. It's centrally located, just a few blocks from downtown, Post Office, court, Goodwill, and a couple of miles from Petco, grocery stores etc. It was a great working base for everything I needed to sort out. ||Rooms are very quiet; there were dogs on my floor, but I never heard them. The motel is far enough back from Main Street that traffic noise isn't a problem. Furnishings are somewhat dated, but everything was very clean (and I wasn't there for designer furniture!). And with a pet in tow, I didn't need to fret about the cat's effect on fancy/new furnishings (although Kitty proved to be well-trained). The room had a nice work area with desk, chair and lamp. ||Housekeeping is by request. The housekeeping staff is very accommodating; one has only to ask for whatever one needs. I actually didn't want any in-room housekeeping - I was worried that the cat might bolt out an open door - but the staff provided me with fresh sheets, extra can liners etc. whenever I needed them.||The gardens are quite expansive and simply lovely - lots of wildflowers and birds - and made a great place to spend some down time during an intense week. There's a pickleball court, a lovely pool (neither of which I had time to use, alas), a hammock and a summerhouse. The Bennington Monument and the Bennington Museum are both within about a mile, and worth the short walk to see.||My only (small) caveats are the lack of an in-room microwave (there's one in the lobby, but I didn't know that until I was leaving - maybe emphasize that to guests?) and they don't serve coffee in the lobby until 7 AM. I'm always up early and desperate for my caffeine, so every AM I walked a short distance to the Mini Mart which opens at 6 AM. ||If you're on vacation in Bennington and environs, or on a business trip, and you want a clean, quiet pet-friendly hotel that provides far more than the chains in terms of spacious, lovely landscaping and outdoor amenities, you'll enjoy the...
Read moreI've been going up to Bennington, Vermont for twenty-five years. I have been staying at the Paradise Inn for about 12 of those years when I go to visit which is about 2-3 times a year. It's a great place. Big, spacious, comfortable rooms. I can't say say anything bad about the place.||Recently, the establishment came under new ownership. I was staying there in November, 2023 for two nights. On the morning of the second night, I had trouble with the electronic key card getting into my room. I went to the desk and reported the problem. A desk person came back with me to the room and said it was probably a battery problem and he said he would take care of it. IO said fine and then left.||When I returned later that evening, my door was open, unlocked, withy the deadbolt preventing it from closing and a DO NOT DISTURB sign hanging from the knob. Naturally, I was furious. A laptop and a lot of cash was left in the room and nothing was touched. But the damage was done. YOU DON'T LEAVE A GUESTROON UNLOCKED LIKE THAT. E-V-E-R||The next morning I went to complain and that desk clerk said that the matter was taken care of, that the guest, myself and my family, were moved to another room, which was never the case. I was never called during the course of the day and told of the dilemma. If they simply contacted me and said we have to move you, i would have been fine.||I asked that they make amends for the screwup they created by paying me back for one of the two nights. In short, it took a while and I got a lot of runaround and they paid me half of one night's rate, which is disappointing. The management and workers didn't seem to care and treated me like they didn't want to be bothered with my complaint. This is a service industry and service is EVERYTHING.||In closing, if you're going to buy into a hotel and then treat your clientele like lackluster nothings, don't expect to have return business. I would still recommend it as a nice place to stay, but they won't be getting my...
Read moreReceived a call at 7:50p on check in day to indicate the office would be closing at 8, though I noted on the requested online check in that I’d be arriving around 8:30. My request for a rollaway was not acknowledged until I asked about one and was then told that they had none. |The room was clean on arrival. There was no daily cleaning offered unless you asked but it seemed discouraged. Was told that stopped during Covid? Was advised to place used towels outside the room. The clean towels were also placed outside the room, on the floor. Shower door leaked into the bath…needed to dry the floor after each use. You could tell they took the price effective route when renovating the baths as the valve for the shower was in the same place as a tubs valve would be. Difficult to operate, water was either cold or scalding hot. |Zero insulation between floors. We were up at all hours from people above walking, moving, etc. |Patio table was left with garbage and coins outside and never removed throughout our 4 night stay. |Hallway reminded me of the Overlook Hotel from The Shining. |Reasonably sure there is/are some long term residents. |Awful odor in the hall. Nauseating. |Front desk rep, Cliff, nice guy… helpful as he could be. |Was happy that the place had laundry facilities when I booked but was told they weren’t available when I wanted to use them as “there was a water issue” in the building that housed the laundry. Had to spend several hours of my time and at least 25 bucks at a laundromat. That stinks. |I’ve been home over 24 hours now, still waiting for a receipt. Office was closed when we left at about 9:45am. Tried to call tonight, voicemail was full. No branding on the voicemail. Could have been anyone’s. |Not trying to be negative but just don’t come expecting any polish or service / services at all. |For the price, the Vervana is a good value but it’s just not ready for prime time and I’m not sure it...
