In late June and early July 2023, I and my wife and members of our extended family drove to Texas to attend a wedding in San Antonio; while we were there, we stayed for four days at the La Quinta Inn in Boerne, TX. I have read other reviews of this hotel and have found some to be unusually harsh. I will provide my own impressions in a spirit of constructive criticism. (+) This hotel is only nine minutes away from the home of the parents of the groom in Fair Oaks Ranch and only 26 minutes away from the Church in San Antonio where the wedding was held. (+) Our rooms were fine; they were clean when we arrived, the air conditioning worked well, the television was fully functional (to our granddaughters’ delight), and, when we asked, the rooms were acceptably cleaned by the housekeeping staff. (+) The breakfast that was provided, gratis, was not overly sumptuous, but it was decidedly acceptable. The dining area was spacious and pleasant. (+-) Within the exercise room, the machines were functioning properly, and the television, and its remote, as well. But when my grandson, who is supposed to exercise for football, asked for the weights, we were told by the person at the front desk that they had been stolen ("dropped through the window, into the pool area, and made away with".) (-) Around the pool, one of the fence panels had been twisted and warped to such an extent that anyone could enter or leave the hotel’s grounds without going through the lobby to be scrutinized. There were no chairs around the pool. Also, the two trash cans around the pool should be replaced: the top area of each can is rusted sufficiently to be potentially hazardous, possibly causing wounds that might require tetanus shots. (-) The hallway rugs, at least on the floors that I was accustomed to traverse (first and third), needed a definite deep cleaning. (-) While we were guests of the hotel, there were two individuals selling fireworks out of a large kiosk situated at the edge of the parking lot; this may have posed a fire hazard (e.g., a customer smoking a cigarette). Also, I believe that they had propped open a side door of the portion of the hotel that was nearest to them in order to allow them immediate access to the rest rooms that were situated in the first-floor hallway. (?) Generally, the individuals at the front desk were polite, and only occasionally mildly abrupt and/or aloof; I believe that they may have been frustrated in having to attempt to deal with complaints. I believe that the occasional glumness of the front desk staff is a result of the overall lack of wherewithal to provide adequate maintenance and security; all they can do when they receive a complaint (e.g., no weights in the exercise room, non-functioning washer and/or dryer) is to apologize. Obviously, having to apologize too often, for something that you are not authorized or equipped to do anything about, can eventually wear a person down. (?) I noticed that the hotel’s sole public computer and its associated printer are located directly across from the front desk; both were in working order. The location is unusual: being situated thus is unlike many hotels, where there are one or two computers, and at least one printer, that are always located, for privacy, or at least for semi-privacy, in a separate area, with dedicated chairs. But in this hotel, the user had either to stand up while utilizing the computer, or it was necessary to obtain permission to move one of the high stools from the dining area over to the computer in order to sit down comfortably. I also assumed that the computer and printer were so prominently placed in the lobby because of the hotel staff’s fear of theft.
In summary: this hotel is in need of enhanced budgets, from their parent company (Wyndham), for (i) security, and (ii)...
Read moreWish there was a negative on this rating. We booked this hotel because we had an event at the dominion clubhouse and live out of town. This particular weekend OBVIOUSLY there were other events so the rate was jacked up. Sure you can say it was because of summer but every weekend since that weekend has been $100 less than what we paid. In case your wondering we booked a simple king no smoking room for 2 adults. No grills and of course there is NO KIND OF BREAKFAST even though it still says breakfast in their website booking. When we arrived at the 3pm arrival time, that's their time not ours mind you. There was 1 person working the desk. She was not at the desk to start with, when she did show up, she was harried, and stressed. ( I want to note here I'm in no way blaming this worker personally. ) she helped each person as best she could but there was a lady wishing to re- book a second night who was told she may not be able to because that was not their policy and if she did that particular weekend the rate was, (remember I mentioned it was ridiculously high. He rate would be$350. She had 4 people in her room, but still, good God.) The lady said she would have to check availability. Then there was a man waiting to purchase water from the lobby vending, what is usually charged to your room. He ended up waiting till she had checked in 3 of us and simply paid cash, despite the fact that she stated she did not have a cash drawer. My annoyance here was there should have been more help at a 3pm check in time for this young lady. In addition we paid a large sum of money for no breakfast not even coffee was provided here and we have been to the cheapest of motels that have at least had coffee service and not tried to use COVID as an excuse. This place looked run down inside, the elevator was sketchy to say the least. I felt as though I was using the employee access elevator. The air conditioner access door was broken. The room never cooled below 74°. When we checked out and let them know of our concerns, the reply was simply sorry about that. Not a well maybe we can give you some kind of a credit, maybe we can get you a night's stay at one of our other LA quintas, not even a let us have corporate contact you. It was like oh well. So if your looking for something near the DOMINION. DO NOT...
Read moreI really enjoyed staying at this La Quinta. The desk clerk was very professional and inviting. He upgraded my room to a suite at no additional charge plus let me check in early. The hotel is fairly new at 10 years old. The beds have been replaced since then. They are extremely comfortable with the right amount of back support. Which is extremely important if you've been on the road for a while. I have a history of back issues so a comfortable bed was extremely important. There's no sagging in the middle of the bed like some other hotels. I was impressed at the cleanliness and furnishings in the room. It still smells like a brand new hotel. The microwave and refigerator was clean and in good working order. I only wish the TV was slightly larger and 1080p. It's only 720p. The internet was fast enough to stream TV shows and movies. The WIFI is open an doesn't require a password. The TV has HDMI inputs and the remote control has an "Input" button allowing you to connect a ROKU or Xbox One with ease. The air conditioner kept my room chilly at a nice 65 degrees. The water in the bathtub/shower gets really hot. Very good water pressure too. There's a pool, which is clean and cool. There's also a fitness room. You can wash your clothes via washer and dryer. There's a modest charge I believe 4 quarters. Unfortunately, due to covid there's no breakfast option. The only thing this hotel is missing is proper vending options and better selection in their Sundries section in the lobby. There's a Timewise gas station and a McDonald's right next door within walking distance. Directly across the highway is a Whataburger, Domino's, Taco Cabana, Bill Miller's BBQ, and a Bill Miller's Laguna Madre Seafood Company. If you should require a supermarket or pharmacy, there's a Walmart, H-E-B, and Walgreens very close by. I highly recommend this hotel. I will stay here again especially since La Quinta is under the Wyndham Rewards program again. We liked our 3 day stay so much, we extended one more night. Boy are...
