We stayed here while our landlord updated and repaired our home. At first, the stay was pleasant. The room was comfortable, breakfast was hot and complimentary. The cats were welcomed, which is odd for a hotel. Our younger cat had a grand time exploring, and the older had fun jumping from bed to bed because she could. Midway through our stay, I noticed a couple of rashes that looked like hives. I'm allergic to some topical things, so I thought maybe it was the laundry soap they use, or the soap they provided in the room. Our last night there, I was watching a movie on my laptop when I saw something crawling on the comforter... a bug. When I tried to inspect what it was, a slight touch made it squish, leaving a bloody stain. My heart sank, but suddenly the red, itchy welts on my arm and legs made sense. The next time I was able to catch one alive and presented it to the night auditor. My worst fear realized: bed bugs. Fast forward two days later. Despite my best effort to keep these pests out of our home, they've snuck in. I am covered head to toe with hard, red, itchy welts, bites from the nice family of bed bugs we surely brought home with us. This is sheer misery, something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. So, to the management, a word of kind advice. Please be proactive with your housekeeping practices and frequently treat your rooms for these things. I hope no one else suffers the way I have been since last week.

4-star hotel where? Because there was nothing special about it. The rooms were ok, no menu, no what to do information flyers or binder. The carpet had hair, no jacuzzi, the pool was very, very small. Also, a roach in our room, we were on 3rd floor so i dont want to hear, "oh, it could've came in from outside, it happens". There was a little place to buy chips and water. Location had a Wal-mart at walking distance, but nothing to do, but not their fault. Anna Maria is 15 min away. Breakfast Buffet? Well good luck because we only had an apple and muffin "because of covid-19 ". Not coming back.

We used this hotel as our base to visit Manatee, Lido, Bayfront, and De Soto beaches, as well as Sarasota downtown and other national parks in the area. Due to Covid 19 new rules, there is no daily cleaning however one can always ask for clean towels, dishwasher detergent, etc. Breakfast was ok. The main advantage of this hotel is location, really close to everything (there is a Walmart in the backyard - literally).

Let me start with the moment my wife went inside to check us in. She walks into the lobby to over hear the head manager of the hotel talking garbage about one of the customers staying there but really didn't think anything of it at the time. On my way inside with the luggage I'm walkingbdiwn the haul and I can here 2 women talking to each other about some customer and how they had called down with an issue with the shower head in there room and the way that one of them was talking about the customer wasn't in the best light. There voices were coming from a room that was off the hallway I was pushing the cart down and as I got to the door to the room it was coming from the two woman came out in a hurry and about ran into me which surprised both me and the woman and I was given this look that said " who the hell are you and why are you in my hotel" from who I now know was the manager. I'm just your average 40 year old male that dress's in your typical business casual clothing most of the time so I don't look like I'm a poor man off the street. I have myself together. The look they gave me was one as if I was a homeless bum off the corner that walked in. Let it go. The next day my truck broke down and had to be put into the shop so we were left without a vehicle which wasn't a big deal because there's a Walmart next door, it was coming into the weekend, and there's Uber whenever we did need to go. My wife and I get woken up at around 11:00 am the next morning by the manager just beating down the door. We both had been up late and slept in which we would of liked to have slept longer but this was just how this day went. My wife goes to get the door and find out what the hell was going on. This Manager AJ was there with her head of maintenance and head of house keeping along with her and I'm just lying there waiting for my wife to come back and I hear this manager just start screaming at my wife saying that we aren't following policy by having our little Caca poo dog with us on the 2nd floor and that we should of been in a room on the 1st floor. Then she told my wife that they tried to run one of the cards on our Marriott Bonvoy gold member account and that it came back saying that it wasn't authorized and that we needed to pay $163 for the previous nights stay right now or the cops were going to be involved because we were committing fraud. Which nowadays I keep all my cards off until I use them just to be safe. My wife gets heated and tries to respond back telling her that yes she knows that we needed to move to the 1st floor and have no problem doing that whatsoever and was simply waiting for someone working there to bring her the keys and tell her what room number to move to before getting the two cart loads of our stuff loaded to swap rooms. That's all it would of taken. Idk is that not the correct way that I'm thinking of this. We had no problem with moving at all. I'm not sure what a 8 lb tiny little dog thats hyper allergenic and doesn't bark or have accidents would do to cause such a fuss. But this absolute nut job of a manger imply wouldn't let her get a word and just kept screaming at my wife standing n the hallway telling her that we have 10 minutes to get out of the room and off the property. I'm still in bed just in shock trying to wrap my brain around what the hell was happening and why. I have never been so angry in my life. This manager was so far out of line that I still am having a problem trying to understand it. The entire hotel could every single word that the manger was screaming at us like we're two criminals with no money trying to get a free weekend at her hotel. I get up at this point and go out and face this manager and I kept my cool somehow and said to her " what the hell is your problem lady! What is it that we did to justify this absurd and completely unprofessional attack from you".. she looks at me and tells me that I don't have a word in this because I'm not listed in the hotel. I said well you just took $163 from me to pay the previous night so you can look at me however...

Several dirty dishes in cupboard. When reported was given some extra dishwasher detergent and told they were short staffed. Pictures taken and front desk clerk also took pictures. Dishwasher not working and found unused soap in it. My husband opened the panel and found the breaker off. Once breaker turned on the dishwasher worked fine. Why did the cleaning staff put away dirty dishes? The kitchen utensils were very limited / poorly stocked. The kitchen sink / garburator not draining properly and had to turn the garburator on every time the sink was used just with water. On the first day of using the shower it drained very slowly. Reported to front desk but no response. On second day the shower would not drain at all and I had to stand in dirty water to clean. My husband took the stainless steel cover off the drain and cleaned a disgusting amount of hair and guck. After this it worked fine. I guess we should send TownePlace a bill for electrical and plumbing maintenance. Pool heater was not working. We were told that the heater had been broken for some time! We purchased prime steak and seafood to do on the barbeque (advertised online) and when we asked for the barbeque to be turned on we were told that the city would not allow them to have the gas connected to the barbeques or firepit.
Laundry facilities poorly maintained. Only one out of 3 washers, and one out of 2 dryers were working. I had to do laundry one load at a time but not expecting that and had plans. Water was all over the floor leaking from the only working washer. There were towels on floor to soak up the water. Breakfast was a JOKE! Poorly stocked and poor quality. Everyone that we talked to thought it horrible. There was a girls soccer team staying and they were very disappointed also; but I should not comment for other people. Difficulty getting clean towels. No dish cloth or towels in kitchen, no clean pool towels at pool and had to use room towels. Pool area was not cleaned overnight as the same dirty towels from the day before were still in the same spot at 4 in the afternoon the next day and decking was dirty with food.
Overall very poor accommodations. When we kept getting the excuse that they were short staffed and I wanted to tell them they shouldn't book all the rooms and only what they could care for properly. VERY DISAPPOINTED in this property especially being part of the Marriott chain and claiming to be going beyond standard...

My wife and I stayed at the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Sarasota Bradenton West. I am a silver elite Marriott bonvoy member.

I don't normally write complaints, but this stay was strange and borderline unacceptable. When we checked in the person at the front desk informed us that there would be no housekeeping on account of staffing issues. I completely understand the challenges Covid has added for all of us such as staffing. However, all of the issues that came up during our stay made me want to write this complaint.

But let me start with the pros

  1. The property is in a nice location and close to a lot of restaurants.
  2. The wifi was fantastic. I have not stayed at a hotel with wifi this good. Part of why I was ok dealing with the other issues caused during our stay is the wifi.
  3. Breakfast was pretty decent. I enjoyed having bagel sandwiches every morning.

Now let me get to the cons. And boy are these some major cons.

  1. The old coffee filters had not been cleaned out. Not too big an issue, but it was quite filthy.
  2. There was old bacon in the Microwave. This is quite unacceptable. The fact that this hotel did not clean the old bacon from the Microwave is extremely gross. This is not something I expect from a Marriott property. I wouldn't even expect this from a cheap motel!
  3. There has been a strange smell coming from the fridge ever since the first day. The smell has just gotten worse, and we haven't been able to identify what is causing it. The fridge is empty, so I don't understand what could be causing it.
  4. We were in town for a friend's wedding, and I always depend on the hotel room having a decent ironing board. Lo and behold, the ironing board in this room is broken. At this point after all the problems with the room I had just given up.
  5. At the end of our stay we decided to look under the bed to make sure we didn't leave anything behind and came across literal trash, presumably from previous guests. Once again, I really expect Marriott to do the due diligence to clean up the rooms.

I get that staffing is an issue, especially during a global pandemic. But I would much rather be told that they didn't have rooms available rather than find OLD BACON in the room I'm staying in. I'm extremely annoyed that I spent over $500 on this room. I'm not even mentioning the elevator that was out...
