Ā Ā Ā Read moreLike others have written, if it wasn't for Aldi, my husband and I wouldn't be eating. Publix has gotten to the point of obvious price gouging, so Aldi is it for me.
If you haven't tried the Aldi brands, you're missing out. Clancy's potato chips are better than the national brands, as are Millville cereals, pancake mixes, Aldi-brand peanut butter and canned goods.
The one item I dearly miss at this Aldi is the Millville Toaster Tarts, which haven't been in stock for the best part of a year. But their strawberry tarts were SO much better than Pop Tarts. Their Choceur brand chocolate never disappoints.
If you want some really GOOD coffee, try their Specially Selected German roast coffee. The brick pack is over a pound, and the price is more than just right. It's a satisfying sip for your first morning cuppa.
I can't attest to their pet products because my two feline princesses are very spoiled (I order their goodies from Chewy). Cleaning and paper products are on par with national brands, except for the tall kitchen bags. They're not quite as strong as Hefty bags, but they do just fine for lighter trash items, such as emptying waste paper baskets into, and the like. I always have Boulder zip close bags on hand, and I've never had an issue with the aluminum foil, plastic wrap, wax paper and parchment when they have the latter two.
The meat section, when stocked, is fresh and looks good. Chicken breast is usually cheaper per pound than Publix. Drumsticks, which are my usual purchase, are HUGE, extra meaty, and cheap when you buy a family pack. I can find ground beef cheaper at Costco, but their premade hamburgers are so good, I don't mind the splurge. With an "everything" croissant bun, a slice of vine-ripened tomato, and some caramelized onions, you can't find a better burger anywhere else.
The only true complaint I had was with their "Ben and Jerry's" style pints of ice cream. The Brookie Dough had that cheap, chocolate-flavored sourness that you sometimes encounter with lesser brands of chocolate ice cream. The rest of it was fair, but that chocolate really ruined it. Maybe I had a bad pint... I hope that was the case.
Bring your own bags, and a quarter for the cart. Be prepared to bag your own items. But if those things mean you can save around 30% off your grocery bill every time you go, I think that is worth...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUpdated Review: So some time ago I left a review far from the greatest for this store. The opinion was formed after a few brief interactions and as such warranted an update that more fairly describes this Aldi.
I wound up returning to this store frequently doing shops for Instacart and my opinion was vastly reformed. In fact work shopping aside I've started shopping at Aldi personally.
While not all pricing is the lowest in town across the board, value is abundant for a variety of items. The staff at the Cortez location is fantastic. I'm greeted and remembered when I arrive on site which offers the feeling of regularity, and anytime I have a question regarding product info or location they go out of their way to help me.
The store is well organized and easy to navigate. Personally I love that Aldi is limited in its brand offering. Rather then stuffing a shelf with four or five brands of mustard for example, one or two would be carried which for me simplifies my shop.
While for myself personally I like self bagging, some customers could reject the concept. Cashiers ring up items and then place them back into your shopping cart loose. After purchasing bags of your choosing, paper or plastic, the customer cashes out and bags the loose items at a separate counter. Paying for bags aids Aldi with keeping prices low while bagging yourself ensures efficiency during checkout.
The only other point deduction that arises is out of stocks. Often Hot/New Items sell out first thing in the day, Aldi has a temporary items as well in stock called Aldi Finds. These products are well known brands that are being sold at a fraction of the standard price. Again however they remain in stock while supplies last. Overall Aldi is an excellent grocery store selection for shoppers with...
