My husband and I were looking for a low-key retreat for our anniversary. As we currently live in Texas, we missed the fall weather and changing leave colors from our childhoods. I stumbled upon the Bridgeton House through an internet search. It was just exactly what we wanted. We stayed in the penthouse suite and I would certainly recommend this room to anyone. It has plenty of space, a comfortable bed and an amazing view of the river from the balcony. The caveat is that it is a climb as it’s on the third floor and there is no elevator. So if you have any mobility issues, this room isn’t for you. However, they had really lovely rooms on the first floor as well. Breakfast is included in your stay and can be delivered to your room. The breakfasts are over the top delicious and very filling. Every staff member we encountered was so helpful and friendly. It was a very relaxing place, kind of like visiting a relative you’ve known forever. They also have an afternoon tea with delicious snacks. There are several good restaurants in the area, but we opted for more relaxed dinners. We ate a couple of times at the Descendants Brewing Company and had takeout pizza and food from Pipilo’s Pizza. Both of these are walking distance across the bridge in Milford NJ. The tow canal is an excellent place to take a nice long walk and it is right near the Bridgeton House. We met some other folks who were visiting at the same time as us and this couple has been coming there for many years. They said that Diane (who seemingly runs the place) is the heart of Bridgeton House and we agree. So, to sum it up, your stay here can be as active as you want, as fancy as you want or just a relaxing time. You are provided with a long list of options for dining, sightseeing and shopping in the area via email before your stay. Thank you for everything...
Read moreRoom was comfortable as was the double bed (great mattress and pillows). The in room breakfasts were the best we've ever had at a B&B and better than those served at any hotel we've ever stayed at. There was a great variety of choices and because we were staying a week, we each (there were 2 of us) got to choose our own separate menu each day. Their banana bread was delicious. Their coffee was a medium roast and very tasty. We especially liked their fruity baked oatmeal (They shared their recipe with us.) Sitting out on the large screened balcony overlooking the Delaware River was relaxing. Their afternoon fresh backed cookies smelled and tasted wonderful l. There is on-site off street parking. There is a variety of restaurants in Milford right across the bridge next to the Inn over the Delaware River. There are lots of things to do within a 30-40 minute from the Inn (Frenchtown, New Hope, Bucks County Playhouse. In Dolestown there are more restaurants. Bowman's Hill Tower. Fonthill Castle and Tileworks. We also did the New Hope Railroad excursion train. I wouldn't recommend it. While the train is beautifully restored, it moves at 4 mph; and the parking is a separate vendor and charges $15 per hour. Because they tell you to arrive 30 minutes early and because the train was 40 minutes late in departing, by the time we got back we paid $60 for a boring time. The train staff was friendly and the food options were very limited and they ran out of many things. Seeing the fall foliage was the only redeeming quality. Our last evening there we had an excellent prix fixe meal at the Canal Station Restaurant. Make reservations at least a week before. We look forward returning for another stay at the Bridgeton House Inn. And we live...
Read moreFirst, let me start off by saying that the view of this B&B is amazing, it truly is a very nice location. The breakfast (that they bring to your room) is delicious, and my fiancé and I enjoyed the old-style feel of the renovated home. Now, when my fiancé and I arrived (stayed for three nights) we went into the room and noticed the candies that were left on the nightstand contained nuts, I emailed the B&B prior to our arrival noting our breakfast choice and I stated having an allergy to nuts (they ask that on the form), and they returned with an email confirming that the allergy has been noted. Okay, that wasn't too much of an issue, seeing as I obviously must read all the labels on everything that I eat. Second, when we returned to the room for the night at around 10:30pm I began to turn down the bed, I cannot begin to tell you the amount of black hair on the fitted sheet, it was too much to pick off. This was the most upsetting thing. My fiancé called Zach (maintenance man on-call) and he was there within minutes to hand us new sheets and he also offered a complimentary bottle of wine, which was so incredibly sweet, and we truly appreciated the promptness. The last issue that we had dealt with was the extremely noisy group of people that were next to our room while eating breakfast each morning. We could not understand why they chose to sit where they did. We were on the main floor and there were no rooms next to us, they chose to eat at the entrance of the B&B when each room has their own balcony. Overall, we both truly wanted to love this place, but there were just too many things that has made us decide on...
