Martin House Motel — Hotel in Brookfield

I was driving to Hannibal, MO. It was late, and I had a tire that kept losing air and had to stop here for the night. It Looked old and dated from the outside, and there were hunters milling around the front so I had some trepidation. However, the room was very, very clean, very quiet, and actually no smoking smell. Very good air quality. Front desk was very nice and helpful. || I was taking a short tour of the Mississippi Valley and Gulf since I had never been in this part of the country before Was going to Hannibal (Twain), Tupelo (Elvis), Mobile and NOLA. I’ve done a good amount of traveling in the western states where the cleanliness of the cheap motels is generally better. It was a downer that several of the cheap motels in this area were very gross, and a few times I spent more at Best Western because I wanted to be able to take a shower without gagging. After having stayed in a few cheap motels in the South, this place was a huge refreshing change.|| This was the cheapest one on my trip yet it was the cleanest. It actually smelled like a non-smoking room. The furniture and decor are a little dated but they really take the time to clean everything very well, not just surface clean. I actually looked forward to taking a shower here. The cleanliness level is similar to a better-rated Crowne Plaza or Best Western. It was quiet, I got a decent night’s sleep and got my tire fixed the next morning. || I highly recommend this motel...

I can't even rate this awful place, being from out of town, this room was booked on line, there fore I relied on pictures , price seemed good, but noticed only 3 cars in parking lot, and building appeared run down, nothing like pictures. Front entrance very unkept, dirty upon entering we rang bell for assistance and a man came to help us, lobby was cluttered with boxes, unpleasant odor noted and very unkept, we asked to see a room before agreeing to stay. , we decided not going to stay, and the man said I can show you another room, as we passed a room with open door noticed a computer with a solitary game up on screen, he took us through a glass door to other room, partially open a door to let us inspect, and he quickly closed door, said not clean. At this point we left, he said will be charging your card anyway. This business, if you want to call it that, needs to be shut down. We stayed here recently and found it to be reasonably priced and clean. My husband booked on-line after reading the reviews. Exactly the kind of place we would like to stay. Friendly check-in, clean though small room with vintage bathroom and hand towels folded creatively. Our only regret is that we feel the double bed mattress needed to be replaced. We like to sleep near each other but I couldn't help but roll to the center. If I didn't have a dodgy back, it may not have been a problem. That aside, we walked through the town, sadly being abandoned, but found an ice cream stand. A deer park and a farm supply store, as well as the hospital within short walking distance.
