This review is going to be fairly lengthy, so scroll to the end for a TL;DR.
Went with 2 friends to Cabo Rojo for Boqueron Pride & booked the "glamper" to save $$ & we thought it'd be a fun, cute time. We arrive at the Boho Beach Club & decide to grab a drink at the bar while we wait for our Azul glamper to be ready. The main area of the hotel is very nice, chic, with great staff & good drinks. We toast & settle in until a staff person, leads us to the glamper. We weren't ready for what awaited us.
We get into the glamper, & it's fairly cramped. The largest bed is at one end, directly under the single AC unit, which faces the entrance, which doesn't have any sort of privacy screen. Anyone sitting at a certain part of the pool can look right into the glamper and see inside. As you walk further in you pass a rusted stove (that's definitely there for decoration, it's completely unusable), a mini fridge, the other 2 beds that are to the left & right of a hallway, after a doorway. I had to be careful since there was a giant splintered wooden piece right in the middle of the floor. The beds are directly in front of the bathroom on the opposite side of the glamper, with a curtain for a "door", since the actual sliding door is off the track & completely unusable. In the bathroom there's a small sink, the toilet on the far right & shower on the left.
We're a bit shocked by all this, but end up (mostly) laughing it off & deciding we're going to deal. I go to use the bathroom at one point & notice that the plastic floor immediately in front of the toilet is warped, & I dip a bit. We start to settle in & realize there's nowhere to store our clothes, with the overhead compartments being very cramped & dusty.
We're having a chat in the middle area about the initial shocks, & a small lizard pops in. I walk back to the hotel lobby to ask someone to help. At this point we're annoyed, but shrug our shoulders.
We have dinner at the hotel lobby, which was very pleasant. Our waitress was very sweet & attentive. Our mood picks up a bit. We head back & I decide I'm going to try taking a shower. I close the curtain door & step into the shower where my forehead hits the top of the showerhead. I turn the water on & try to crouch & shower, to very limited success. I'm 5'9", which I consider average height, but there's no way that anyone over 5'5" could use this shower. I eventually give up, put my clothes back on & head to the lobby.
I explain my many frustrations with the glamper, as calmly as I could. I express my shock in not being able to properly shower, or use the bathroom with minimal privacy. I demand that we get upgraded to an actual room, as the conditions of the glamper are completely unacceptable. Apparently I'm not the first person to complain about the glamper, so they call the "housemother", Luzmar Soreira, who apparently has no time to assist. The very nice staff person assisting me looks for availability & finds 2 rooms with a single king bed, one of which is currently available, & the other which won't be available until the morning. Apparently there's a law where you can't sleep more than 2 people to a king bed, so I say we'll take the 2 rooms. The staff person calls the housemother to let her know that we want the rooms. Given the unacceptable conditions of the glamper, I'm expecting it to be a free exchange, but Luzmar says I have to pay full price for the difference, which is almost $1000 more. She then informs the staff person helping me to not call again. Obviously I refuse the charge, & ask for the rooms to be comped. In the end we had to compromise & settle for an additional $320 charge, for both rooms, which we accept.
TL;DR: Glamper is a SCAM. DO NOT BOOK. It's dirty, very cramped, with an unusuable shower and zero privacy. Tried to request an upgrade to a room, but the housemother, Luzmar Soreira, was extremely unhelpful. We had to pay an upgrade fee to swap. The glampers need serious TLC, because they are nowhere near the general standard of this hotel. Fix them up, or get...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel only because our family was staying by and wanted us to stay near them for a family vacation. My elderly grandmother got us the stay without saying much and we came. When we got there the hotel was pleasantly nice on the outside and even the pool area was decent. The room, probably a low to mid range hotel from the Orlando area. The room door to the bathroom was quite busted and obviously broken, the shower you had to play with the handle to get the water temperature right... took close to 5 minutes to do that, and the beds... omg, I was in the Army and I slept on rocks softer than this. Still, we tried to make the best of it. To be honest, there was nothing really special about the place other than a short walk to the beach and the small downtown they have. And then the day to checkout happened and out of curiosity, I asked how much did my grandmother paid, an average of $260 a night! We stayed three nights in this place and it was the most expensive three nights I have ever had anywhere in the world! I have stayed in Paris for a week cheaper than this! So when I asked, not only the nights individually where expensive, no, they also charge per person! So you are not renting a room, but you rent a space based on how many stay with a base charge! I have never even looked at places that do this and the fact places like these remain it’s beyond me. I rather be charged a price and we do whatever we want in the room (of course within reason). I mean we are your typical American family of four so it’s not like we are going to party all night and have a rave! I’m extremely disappointed in this stay and feel that we got taken advantage of considering what we got for our money.
My suggestion to anyone traveling to this area, just drive a bit or rent out of the immediate area, if you have to, look at other options for room rentals, and I mean the alternative choices you have other than your standard box style hotels. You all know what I mean... It wasn’t worth the money at all... not for a place you only basically go...
Read moreThis was a very bad place to stay at, especially since they claim to be pet friendly. They charge hidden fees and have tons of rules. Our check in took almost 2 hours because no one had told us previously that we needed a negative COVID test to stay even though we’re current resident of Puerto Rico, nor did they tell us we had to pay $40 a night to have our dog with us, as well as all his vet paperwork on hand. After a ton of back and forth we were finally able to provide enough info for them to allow us to stay but that the owner of the hotel wants to talk to us tomorrow ?? ( that talk never happened but it made us feel super uncomfortable) The pool area is under construction, and dirty. They say the jacuzzi works but it doesn’t. The parking lot was covered with nails and pipes everywhere, for charging $40 a day to bring your pet you would think they would at least have a little patch of grass or something somewhat pet friendly or at least safe for them to walk around. The hotel sheets are the worst quality I’ve felt in a long time with a hard mattress covered in plastic, the shower grouts are all moldy and the room is extremely loud, you can hear everything in the hallways. When we checked out, we requested a receipt that showed we were charged $50 more than what the room we had stayed in was worth, the front desk man told us that it was because we had booked through a different site and they didn’t have the room that we paid for so instead they just gave us a smaller room for the same price as the big one without saying anything and couldn’t offer us a refund or anything. The lobby was the nicest part of the hotel, but it seems that they put everything into the lobby and completely forgot about the rooms and surrounding area. I do not recommend this hotel at all, for the price we paid we could’ve gotten a way nicer air BNB or better hotel. Save your money and go...
