BEWARE SPECIAL NEEDS FAM: The owner there didn't meet the standards of my 2 children's applied behavior analysis diagnosis of Severe Autism. He entered our bottom floor room the next day to fix a TV that never worked and kicked us out for rearranging the furniture that we had to move around for their safety, complained about the mini trampoline for their self regulation, a few removable stickers on mirror, and falsely told us about trash everywhere. Trash laying around is absolutely not acceptable in our family. My kiddos will eat it or play in it! We have a recording of the room before leaving. The owner said, he didn't care if my kids had special needs or not, that he reported us to booking.com and was to call the sheriff if we didn't leave immediately. There were 2 staff guys at the desk not saying a word while the owner spoke angrily with us. I should of had the sheriff come out, but my 8yr and 3yr old were crying and getting very anxious to go swimming and there was no way of explaining to my kids or them understanding why we had to leave because of their disability. We booked for two nights and didn't get refunded. According to Booking.com after trying to reach out to them several times through phone calls and emails, they denied the refund and accused us of damaging property. Booking.com assured me that Coast Riders Inn had been given a write up for this unfair discriminating act against children with mental disabilities. I hope the staff there and especially the owner think about what might be the circumstances of families and recognize the situations, instead of immediately kicking them out cold blood like he did to us, not giving our family a chance to check out peacefully, and causing mental and physical health breakdowns to our family. This also caused me to have a Lupus/ EDS flair up caused by all the stress that this heartless man did. We saved money to get our kids out to connect with nature and swimming therapy at their indoor pool. I pray that Coast Riders Inn will never treat anyone of any kind of background like they did to us, and especially when children are involved. God will most certainly deal with you on...
Read morePositives: Welcoming and friendly staff. Buddy and Jane make the entire stay feel like true family hospitality. If you ask and it is something they can do, it will be done with a smile. Walking distance to the beach and several nearby restaurants and a general store. Renovated rooms with retro appliances (mini fridge/freezer and microwave) and very comfortable mattress. Heated pool and spa with free board games for the family Continental breakfast. Not much in the way of food (toast, pastries, etc) but great coffee! You can always walk to one of the nearby restaurants for a heartier breakfast. Walk in shower for those with mobility issues
Negatives: For Introverts Only: This hotel requires interaction with the staff to get a full service experience. For instance, you will need to go to the office (or call) to get a bucket of ice, or get the spa ready for use. If asking for things doesn't bother you, this is not a problem. We were helped within seconds of every request we had. Office closes at 8pm most nights so get your requests in before then. If you don't, there is a store right next door to the hotel that you can purchase items at
Summary: This is a well run family owned hotel right off of Hwy 1 in San Simeon. It is within a few miles of Cambria, which is a much more expensive area to stay. We felt very welcomed and enjoyed the large room and lower price on Memorial Day weekend when other lodging in the area was out of our budget. We definitely plan on coming back again...
Read moreMy brothers and I had stayed at this hotel before the new owner and change to the Coast Riders Inn. Previously it was a "get what you pay for" place. When we walked into our room we were blown away to find the complete remodel of the rooms, beds, furniture, etc. I felt like I was in an Embassy Suites. Very nice beds, usb outlets in three different locations, nice tv, nice furniture, chairs, and the retro look with the matching fridge and microwave was nice. I just wanted an affordable place to sleep, but I found that I really enjoyed my room and detail the owner put into it. I spoke with the owner and they are still updating stuff on the exterior such as paint, and other minor things, but I highly recommend this place to all my biker brothers and anyone else traveling down the beautiful Highway 1. There are nice restaurants within a 1-5 minute walk, two convenient stores with all the drinks, goodies and snacks to put you in a diabetic coma, and ocean views with awesome sunsets. The picture I posted was on the highway near the hotel. The continental breakfast was nice, free wifi, smart tv's so you can mirror your phone or computer on it, pool, spa, and very friendly staff. We got free cookies, but I don't know if that was just for us or if everyone gets that. I do not think they allow pets but I'm not sure. If they do not, then the...
