Start by saying my reviews are always positive and I guess this is more of a deep concern with one specific housekeeper - Mariana - rather than the hotel itself. (Having a mother who ran a hotel for most of my childhood I understand the details but makes it incredibly easy to see the lack of professionalism and making a hotels chain your personal problem vs doing your job)
Me and my partner had slept in to checkout, (unrelatedish) housekeeper knocked on the door asking what we are doing, partner wasn't dressed so he spoke through the door saying to give him a minute, she immediately said okay, I'll go to front desk. Seconds later the rooms phone rang, he answered but the phone itself continued to ring. Tried to navigate the problem unsuccessfully to clear any communication. 30 seconds later a male (assumed) manager knocks on the door, I was able get dressed in that time and answered. Dude started hot like he's LAPD busting an 8 yearold little girls kidnapper midcrime spewing off all sorts of obvious lies to let us know he wears the pants in this hotel and controls everything and can be more ignorant than the dude who said give him a second so he didn't answer the door naked 🥴, good work, kiddo. Anyways after I asked if there was any reason he's coming at me sideways (as my partner saying ya, just give us one second is quite literally the absolute only communication we have had since checking in nights prior) he had corrected his tone to something more docile, but again assuming he's management I'll give some advice that you would get so much further to knock on the door saying "sorry to interrupt your sleep, glad our beds are able to give you the rest you need, just unfortunately it being the weekend we do have someone checked into this room this evening. If you're looking to stay another night after you gather your belongings we can walk you to the desk and see what availability we have but if not just knocking to make sure you guys are okay and let you know it is checkout time, thank you so much" Like any other hotel...super weird but can definitely tell it's an attitude they have but anyways while that was weird my concern was:
*as we were packing everything up I had closed the hotel door behind me locking my service dog, seizure, asthma and other medications in the room. I had asked the original housekeeper if she could open it, she ran to Mariana whispering things - for people who wanted to clean the room so badly they sure did delay the process??? Mariano said she can't because she doesn't know if that room belongs to us although both her and the other house keeper were there when the door was being answered by us that morning, she 100% did. Again they are way to excited about the power they think they hold at the Carlsbad by the sea best western up the airport road for some reason?...it's incredibly weird and embarrassing honestly, but anyways I had explained my seizure detecting dog and my medication were all in there and she walked away saying it's not her problem. Every question about protocol I asked was answered with a blatant lie, as I went to ask her name she was in the laundry rooms laughing and reciting the experience and how funny it is and the control she has to the elder house keeper.
There was a lot more to it but keeping someone from their life saving medication and detection dog is a hugggeeeee legal no, on-top of having a phone that doesn't work incase of an emergency and acting like that was something on our end is very concerning. Will be contacting people above the immediate hotel for review on the entire situation and the 3 staff members involved.
To end on a more positive note the ladies at the front seat were all very kind and accommodating, especially blue haired girl, we believe her name is Lynn, Very sweet and the proper/professional attitude the hotel should try to be...
Read moreThis is an excellent facility. We stayed here for five days in one of their suites. We have four children ranging from 3-11 years old. They stayed in two doubles in a separate room off the living room with their own bathroom. My husband and I had a king with our own full bathroom on the other side of the living room. The living room was basic; the couch was made with vinyl (easy to wipe off), but I doubt it would be comfortable enough to sleep on. There is a high counter with two stools. Most of the time we ate on the couch with a couple people on the stools. There are TVs in the bedrooms as well as the living room. We were always able to park right outside our room.
The only thing that was slightly annoying was the lack of lighting in the master bedroom. The only lights are the sconces next to the beds. There is no overhead lighting outside of the bathroom in the closet. I don't know if that's something the facility would be able to adjust, but that is the only negative thing I can report on this facility.
Their continental breakfast was simple but more than basic and the service hours are friendly for people who want to sleep in a bit. The food was good and the space is very well kept. Our kids were able to fill themselves with fresh fruit, omelettes, sausage, potatoes, French toast, cold cereal, bagels, juice, toast, yogurt, boiled eggs, and whole or skim milk. We were usually the only ones in the dining area. Most people grabbed their breakfasts and headed back to their rooms.
The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful with everything that we needed help with. A couple of hours after we checked in the front desk called our room to make sure we were satisfied. Our beds were made and we had fresh towels daily. They have excellent staff.
We used their hot tub in the evenings with our kids and they had plenty of towels on the deck. We also used both of the laundry facilities. They have one washer/dryer set in each laundry room. It costs $1.75 for a wash and $1.75 for a dry cycle. The facilities were kept exceptionally clean and tidy.
For guests who are looking for a suite, keep in mind they don't have ovens (which makes sense since they're awful to clean). There are two electric burners, microwave, coffee maker, full fridge, and a dishwasher. They have plenty of storage in the full kitchens and they offered to lend us pots and pans during our stay. Next time we stay we'll come better prepared with food that can be cooked on the stove top or microwave.
We were very pleased with the location. It's easy to access the freeway and there is a grocery store down the street (Ralphs), Costco within one exit away, and In N' Out close by as well. We visited Sea World, the San Diego Zoo, and Legoland while we were in town. We are definitely planning on patronizing this...
Read moreDon’t get a suite. You would have to bring ALL your kitchen tools and I mean everything. Pots pans forks etc… terrible! I’m using a washcloth as a napkin. Lame!!! The sofa in the front room is the most uncomfortable hard thing ever and the TV had no streaming or even movies you can order. The ice machine is broken near my room. (Update the nice front desk lady told me I could have the kitchen supplies the next day. So they do have them. I feel like the guy who took over my check in was not helpful at all. He told me to unplug my video box to get my tv to work and had me walk down to the front desk for a plastic fork even though I could have been given the kitchen accessories because I booked a suite. He also wrote down the internet password wrong and I had to it figure out! Why he wrote the number one correctly but not the other two number one’s that looked like 2’s or 7’s, idk. He also treated a best western direct client way better than me, in front of me. I booked through booking.com. I even asked the sweet young lady why he was so willing to refund them their room but when I asked I was told I went through third party so…this part of my review was updated after my second night stay) Seriously
Should have just booked a regular room. Had to call to the front desk to get WiFi only because i didn’t know it was on the room key envelope. Had to call for a plastic fork. Had to call to get my tv’s to work HAD TO CALL…
I will update this review after my stay. I’m hopeful a good night sleep may change the vibe! Fingers crossed it gets better. I’m grateful I have a place to stay tonight!
(Unfortunately my room smells of mildew! I don’t see any mold though. It stinks! May be under the carpet or in the walls. The girl who checked me in was really kind though. I want that noted!!! Service didn’t get dicey till the gentlemen took over and she went home. I love her! And she deserves 5 stars!!! I’m allergic to molds so my eyes are burning and my cough has kicked up. Windows open now but it’s loud outside so, no winning I swear! The cleaning staff and the breakfast server, EXCELLENT! The beds are comfy! Some good and some not so good. Two more nights! This part of my review was updated after...
