The manager "PAULA" has to be the most insulting manager I have ever experienced in 20 years. I arrived to check in to the hotel and upon entering the room, the carpet was sticky and stain ridden and my son noticed ants on the night stand. I asked the manager to take a look. She denied everything and tried to convince me their was nothing wrong with the room. I went back to the front desk and began to ask for a cancellation of my reservation. She refused. I asked to speak to the owner-she told me I wasn't allowed to speak to the owner of the hotel. As other guests were checking in and able to hear our conversation, she attempted to offer me another room instead of cancelling my reservation. I agreed to check out the other room-initially, this appeared cleaner and the floor was less sticky. After a 3 hr trip with young child, I gave this second room a try. Once we settled in to take a shower, we realized there was no shower curtain. We asked for someone to put one up and the lady at the front desk told us she wasn't a housekeeper and that we needed to put the shower curtain up ourselves. Eventually, Paula did come to install the shower curtain. We then decided to turn on the AC and immediately a very strong mold smell came out of the vent. We thought we could handle the odor by purchasing lysol and spraying the room. It was so strong, we packed up our bags again, left the door open and went to dinner. We hoped that the room would have aired out and we would get to sleep that night. When we returned, the smell was even stronger, and my roommate began to break out in hives as she is allergic to mold. I attempted to contact the manager again. She was THE most unprofessional staff person and should NEVER work in customer service again! She told me that she couldn't be sure my friend was breaking out due to mold. I asked her to smell it. Of course, she came in the room and said she couldn't smell a thing. Next, I was told that she would not contact the owner (this is now my 3rd request), and she would not cancel my reservation. I was told that I could dispute the charge with my bank, and that the health department was just out recently and gave the hotel a clean bill of health. Why was the health department out recently? They must have received another complaint recently. All of her statements, defensive attitude, and unwillingness to provide professional customer service, allowed me to understand that she must receive these complaints regularly and is used to giving these kinds of statements to customers. It is clear to me that the owner of this hotel has her as a "guard dog". Paula and the other staff person, are trained to deny any customer issue and they talk with you as if there is no other option, but to be charged for your stay, regardless of whether you come or go. Paula also told me she didn't care if I contacted corporate, because the owner bought the name, but doesn't have to answer to anyone. It was like she was the gatekeeper to hell! I could not breathe, my roommate was breaking out in a rash due to the strong smell of mold/mildew and we left minutes before midnight to drive 3 hours BACK HOME, where I know I can lay in a clean bed. I have never been treated like this as a customer, and usually don't write reviews. I absolutely had to write a review, and plan to submit this review in as many websites as possible!!! I have filed a complaint with Wyndham Resorts and expect proper resolution-A FULL REFUND! Pay the extra money to stay at another hotel. The town REALLY is beautiful and I am so sorry, I couldn't stay there to enjoy it. My holiday weekend was ruined at...
Read moreI stayed here for a research vacation. I was underwhelmed upon first sight. The parking lot is gravel and the turn into the lot has some pretty good size bumps. The hotel is clearly older than expected. The outdoor pool water was a funny green color and I didn't catch a smell of chlorine at all. It was a turn off as it was in the front of the hotel and people in it were on display for anyone who drove by. We walked into the lobby and were greeted by a friendly lady at the check-in counter. Yes, counter, because that is more of what it is. She was friendly though. She was very clear that the hotel was smoke and vape free and that we could not bring our bicycles into the building. They did have a small bike rack behind the hotel which was convenient. When we got to our first floor room I was extremely disappointed and somewhat disgusted. The bottom mattress was exposed, there is a strong smell of old, stale cigarette smoke in the room. Even with the AC set on 68, it was not helping with that smell. There is no closet in the room but there is a six drawer dresser. There is an iron and ironing board in the room but there is no cover on it. The bathtub/shower had someone elses brown dried up soap on the wall and it was clear from the dried up soap scum and discoloration that the maid doesn't clean the shower. The pictures on the website do not show you just how small the rooms are. We had to keep our bags behind the door to the room because anywhere else and we would not be able to walk around the beds or get to the microwave or be able to open the dresser drawers. Even more disturbing to me was the fact there is no luggage rack to elevate either of our suitcase. we had to open them on our bed or the floor every time we needed something. I hope no bug crawled into my bags. I immediately went to the Family Dollar across the street and purchased bleach bathroom cleaner. I watched in horror as the brown streaks ran down the shower walls and the tub floor. Nasty! Breakfast this morning was less than satisfactory. At 9:00am, breakfast is until 10am, no one was refilling anything. Tables were not being wiped down- just under whelming. Not only that, there was no ice in the ice machine. I read some reviews while I was sitting at the table. Other reviews also noted that the ice machine was broken during their stay. I guess they have no intention of getting it fixed. Day two of our stay I wanted to make a cup of tea after our evening bike ride. To my disgust there was a coffee filter dried up and about to grow fuzzy mold on it still in the coffee maker. I was truly done!! I will never stay here again. For the price they charge for this place, they should be ashamed!...
Read moreThe first thing I need to talk about are the positive things at the hotel. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The room was nice, but bare of pictures on the walls. The breakfast was good, with sausage gravy being offered every morning, and different flavors of yogurt other than the typical strawberry and blueberry. Those were the only positive things I can say about my stay.
On the negative side of the equation, there were a number of items that should be laid on the owner of the hotel franchise. The handicapped ramp is on the front of the building, but the only parking is in back. The flattened area of the curb that would allow handicapped access to the ramp is too small for a wheelchair to fit. Getting onto the ramp would require an almost 90° turn.
The website did not mention that the hotel was undergoing renovations, so there was an open area on the wing closest to the front desk that was separated from the rest of the hotel by a wall of plastic and tape. Specifically stated on the website was a year round heated pool, but the pool had no heating, was not covered for the winter, and was full of green water, and green scum. Also, there was no mention that the hotel does not have an elevator. I was concerned to see that the fire escapes were made of wood, because the possibility of a fire that burst from the side of the building, or rains sparks from the roof, could cut guests off from escaping, or seriously injure them if the fire escapes burned and/or collapsed.
My room was small as it barely fit the two double beds. There was no closet, or even a rail to hang clothing, leaving the ironing board and iron to sit out in the room. The beds were short, I sincerely doubt that anyone six feet or over could stretch out on the bed without their feet hanging off. At five foot seven inches, it was almost too short for me!
Even after all of the negative things I have listed, I would have given the hotel a higher rating, but this last thing kept me from giving a decent score: the hot water was in VERY short supply. After being out all day, and covered in sunscreen, my traveling companion and I both needed a shower. My friend took a short shower, and I waited about half an hour before going in the bathroom to take my shower. I got a blast of lukewarm water for about 30 seconds, and then got nothing but cold water. I had to kneel in the tub to wash and rinse my hair, prior to taking an abbreviated sponge bath.
Unfortunately, the stay at this hotel was definitely not a relaxing getaway. There were problems from the time we unloaded the car, until checkout. The only positive thing that will stay in my memory is the...
