I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Museum of Chincoteague, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. This museum boasts a wonderful collection of historical artifacts and photographs that truly bring the rich history of Chincoteague to life.
One of the highlights of the museum is the famous Misty of Chincoteague. Seeing the stuffed representation of this beloved pony was a real treat. It was fascinating to learn more about Misty's story and her impact on the local community. The museum's dedication to preserving this iconic piece of Chincoteague's history is truly commendable.
The staff at the Museum of Chincoteague are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. They were more than happy to answer any questions we had and provided us with interesting insights into the exhibits. Their passion for the museum and its contents was evident, and it added to the overall enjoyment of our visit.
One of the highlights for our children was the scavenger hunt provided by the museum. This interactive activity kept them engaged and entertained as they searched for specific items throughout the exhibits. It was a fun and educational way for them to learn more about the history of Chincoteague. The museum's effort to cater to both children and adults is truly commendable.
The small gift shop at the Museum of Chincoteague is a hidden gem. It offers a variety of books and items related to the history and culture of Chincoteague. It's a great place to find a special memento of your visit.
Overall, our experience at the Museum of Chincoteague was a positive one. The collection of historical artifacts and photographs is impressive, and the museum's dedication to preserving the local history is evident. Read moreI had an extremely unpleasant experience at this museum. The museum exhibits itself are quite interesting, and the physical museum indeed deserves a higher rating.
However, the two elderly women staffing the museum were flat out rude and, if you can believe it, aggressive towards me. One museum exhibit is a laminated news pamphlet, bound with metal rings, and resting on a podium, undeniably intended to be handled, the pages turned, and read by patrons. I attempted to ask one of the elderly women staff a question about the laminated pamphlet, and she berated me saying "don't touch the exhibits! I don't know anything about them!" I attempted to explain, and asked if I could please ask her a question about it, in precisely those words. She responded that no, I could not ask her a question. I retreated, in an effort to avoid further confrontation or to escalate the situation even more, in front of my children. Shortly later, after collecting myself, I asked the staff if there was a suggestion box for the museum. The woman responded, in precisely these words: "what, you going to file a complaint about me?!" I only responded, "please, ma'am, no, please stop", and I again retreated. My children were taken aback and offended by her hostile and aggressive behaviour, something I would never condone. I do not know if she mistook me for a vandal, or simply has no respect for patrons; but I have been an annual visitor to Chincoteague for more than 40 years, and I only treat people, places, and my children, with upmost respect. Frankly, I could not believe her attitude and disrespectful nature. I would welcome a response from the museum staff and/or management.
I apologize for writing such a negative review of a nice museum. But the behaviour of the women staffing the museum was...
Read moreWe were so glad we went to the musuem. I only wish we had gone earlier in our trip. I went as a big fan of Misty and I'm glad I did. I'm like so many others who read the books and felt like they discovered a mystical land was actually read. I had gotten disappointed about what facts were changed but then the stuff gave me all that magic back again. I met Jim who told me so much about her that I didn't know including how I had unknowingly taken pictures of 2 of her descendants on Assateague. Mary also told me more about the Beebes and we also loved everything they showed about the island. The exhibits are so well taken care of that they can appear new -- such as the lighthouse lamp and the fire wagon (I can't remember real name). They're great about providing scavenger hunts which my niece loved so you catch a lot of details. The whole staff is incredible and knowledgeable. It's so affordable and has unique merchandise to bring home something special. Seriously check this out and if you're a Misty fan, then go to the theater to see her hoofprints and statue. Thank you to the staff for telling...
