Too bad you can't give zero stars
This is what happened to my son and his partner at this Red Roof Inn in Cortland NY over Labor Day weekend. This is ridiculous. Complete lack of customer service from the staff and the place is NOT ADA compliant by any stretch of the imagination. Red Roof Inn, you should be ashamed. I copied this post from her FB page: "Over Labor Day weekend, I wanted a quick getaway. My partner and I found a spot in Cortland, NY with something incredible—a Trak chair. Basically, an off-road wheelchair with tank wheels (yes, tank wheels!) that lets people with disabilities explore nature. I couldn’t wait to try it. We booked a king accessible room at the Hometowne Suites in Cortland NY (HomeTowne Studios by Red Roof) because it was nearby, promised a roll-in shower, and even advertised an accessible pool with a lift. Pools are usually off-limits to me since lifts are rarely working, but this time I felt hopeful. That hope lasted about five minutes. When we went to see the pool… there were TWO STEPS leading to it. The front desk casually admitted there was no accessible entrance. Yes, they had a lift—but you couldn’t even reach it. Then came the room. The so-called “roll-in shower” was actually a step-in shower, barely large enough for a standard shower chair. They had a built-in seat, but the shower head didn’t even reach it. When I asked, the response was: “That’s just how our showers are.” So much for “roll-in.” We were stuck—five hours from home with no real options. We stayed one night and left early the next morning. No manager was on-site, and staff barely acknowledged the issues. Later, I saw they briefly removed the listing, but now it’s back—still advertising a roll-in shower. False advertising isn’t just frustrating—it’s harmful. Accessibility is more than a marketing buzzword. It’s freedom, dignity, and basic inclusion. Here are the photos that were conveniently left out of their website and screen shots of what was...
Read moreI had a hard time with deciding how to rate this. The hotel has received renovations, but there is only so much you can patch with it still looking run down. The room was clean enough, but could be better, I'd rate that a 6 out of 10. The tub fixtures were very stained with water stains and the tiles had a lot of soap scum. Toilet and sink appeared clean. Carpet beside the bed needs a good clean. The hallways could definitely use a deep clean. I'd say it's been awhile since the carpet was vacuumed . You can see where they have patched the walls and ceilings in both the common areas and the rooms. Lighting in the room was very dim and made the room seem smaller and dingy. Can't open the curtains so it was very dark. Staff was no where to be found on more than one occasion. Coffee was not available and had to ask for cups and tea. The young woman on the front desk on Friday didn't even speak to us when we asked for the cups. The young man on Saturday was friendly. Nobody was available on Sunday, no coffee made and no hot water for hours (tried to have a shower from 6 am to 9 am when we had to leave) and nobody on the front desk to report that too. Room was not cleaned on Saturday. Bed was strange, soft on the top half and rock hard on the bottom. When you sat at the end of the bed it was like sitting on a board. Needless to say backs weren't happy. It was a good location for accessing the highway, and could walk to restaurants and a grocery store. It was very quiet Friday night, a little bit more noise on Saturday night but there was nothing major and it was quiet all night. Slept well due to how quiet it was. If you are just looking for a place to overnight on a road trip, this is a good...
Read moreFront desk personnel seem to disappear for smoke breaks, as does the one luggage cart they seem to have. Floors and beds seemed clean, but odd, square, and lumpy pillows on the bed. The room felt a little dark, and we were unable to open the curtains enough to let some light in. From the outside, some curtains were falling off the tracks. I did not see an elevator and was very glad we were on the bottom floor. To get to the ice machine on the second floor, I had to walk all the way down to the opposite end of the hotel from the front desk, go up the stairs, and go all the way across to the other end of the hotel (basically above the check-in desk). It's good that I'm able-bodied enough to do that. ||Some of the tiles in the shower appeared dark in areas, like perhaps there's some mold. Basically, the rooms could use some updating.||We were in room 104, and during our first night there, some kids were hanging out outside because it's so close to the entrance. I pulled back the curtain just enough to see who was making the noise. Thankfully, parents rounded up their kids before it got too late, and the noise stopped. ||Like I said, not the best, but certainly not the worst. A nearby brand-name hotel was charging more than double the price, so this Red Roof Inn was actually sold out when...
