I came to the Holiday Inn Express in Courtland because of a job that I was training a crew on. Arrived night before job and the bed was great, clean room, a typical Holiday Inn.
The job was moved to Ithaca last minute so I did not want to do a 30 minute drive every morning. I had already booked my stay for 3 nights so I requested that I could be let out of the remaining nights at no charge. I know this is not company policy but I have asked before at other hotels and it is usually not an issue. If they would have said no, I would have stayed at the hotel and had a longer commute in the morning. When I made this request at the front desk they said they would run it past the general manager in the morning. I left with another employee early in the morning and then came back to the hotel when the general manager was in. When I returned we inquired at the front desk and the general manager came out around the desk and was very confrontational from the start. She yelled and made a huge deal about how this was horrible and then instructed her employee to "get them both out of here now". She then proceed to make it a well known point how "she" was giving us hundreds of dollars and how appreciative we should be and how much of a problem that we were being for her. We remained polite and civil as she kind of had us at her mercy as we really wanted to change hotels. I informed her of my intent to complain about how she treated us and she did not care.
I am a platinum member and stay over 100 nights per year in holiday inn hotels and I can say with all honesty that she is the most rude, most unprofessional, most negative person I have ever met at any holiday inn, or any hotel chain ever....in all my years traveling....EVER.
I will say that the other front desk employees were very nice and civil and what you would expect from Holiday Inn. Unfortunately because of the general manager I will NEVER stay at this...
Read moreOverpriced for its location. Only one elevator makes the wait longer than it ought to be. One person behind the desk at 10pm when late checkins arrived, and the line was out the door for a half hour or longer. The room door is not soundproof at all, so when the toddlers from the next room begin using the hallway as a playground and screaming up and down the hall, you can't sleep even if you hit yourself over the head with an anvil. Free breakfast only until 10am on Sunday, so can't really sleep in. All coffee machines were empty at 10am; they might have been having trouble keeping up with demand. The room air conditioner/heater was older and although it was refitted with a digital thermostat, the thermostat was having trouble keeping the temperature steady. The heat would run one minute, the air conditioning the next minute. The mini-fridge had no freezer section, so we couldn't really re-freeze our ice-packs that we use to keep our food cold in the car. The coffee machine was in the bathroom even though there was ample room for it in the "living room" area of the room, but the microwave was under the TV, making for a bizarre arrangement of kitchen appliances.
Contrasting the relatively negative thoughts expressed above, here are some positives: the bed was very comfortable and mercifully free of any sorts of creepy-crawlies. The bathtub was huge and the bathroom was well-appointed. The parking was ample and close enough to the front door that even in the rain it was not a hardship to get to and from the car. The staff was gracious about slightly extending checkout time.
Overall, I'd stay here again. The most important aspect of any hotel is its bed and Holiday Inn Express has excelled in this capacity at every one of their locations where I've...
Read moreMy wife and myself arrived around 7PM Sat 15 Aug 2015 and found the overall impression of the hotel to be above board, nice entrance, lobby and friendly guest services. We stepped next door to Perkins for dinner only to return to a extremely noisy environment, with kids running around the lobby area and lounge. We went to our room and the noise continued into the hallway with kids running up and down several floors slamming doors and play fighting right in front of door to our room. I went back to the lobby to met friends of ours who were just checking in. I politely stated to the desk clerk " who ever is responsible for these kids needs to get a grip on there behavior as they continue to run up and down the halls slamming room doors and if nothing is done I will simply check out and request a refund". We then later went to the lounge to visit with our friends and yet the kids continued to cause a ruckus. We later learned a kids baseball team was having a party. We went to our rooms and the noise appeared to be contained to the lobby lounge area. For the management. if you do not have a separate private lounge for parties, I suggest do not allow them if the people in charge do not have the decency to respect other hotel guests. For the management perhaps guests should be for warned a baseball team is staying at the hotel and will be having a party so the guests can decide if they wish to stay the night or look for other accommodations and lastly hotel guests should not have to tell the staff there is a noise issue that needs to be addressed. P.S. the Holiday Inn Express at the Airport in Reading PA which we stayed at the night before was one of thee best hotel stays we...
