My stay was okay, not great. First, the live music in the bar for Valentine's day was great! I would also like to thank Mike'e who found and returned my credit card and the housekeeping manager who was very kind and polite on every encounter I had with her. I wish I could say the same about the manager who really missed an opportunity to showcase the type of hospitality the south is known for. I stayed here 4 nights and 3 of the 4 nights was pretty restless due to loud guests both above and next door to me. I actually had to investigate on my own to find where the noise was coming from on my first night. It turned out to be a room full of unsupervised children. I reported it to the front desk. I'm not sure if they spoke to them or not. I know the hotel is not totally responsible for noisy guests. Unfortunately, it is partially why I didn't have the best stay. Other reasons include not being informed of the small continental breakfast, or that there were microwaves and fridges available. I overheard a front desk worker ask housekeeping to bring a guest one and inquired if they were an extra cost. They are not. I read through the hotel's website and nowhere do they mention this is available nor is it pictured. I opted out of purchasing a suite because of it not having a microwave so they essentially lost money. Mississippi declared a state of emergency due to snow and ice, making dangerous and in some areas, impassable road conditions. The hotel restaurants closed. Management did not inform guests of road conditions or make any provisions for guests to eat. It would have been nice to have been accommodated with a microwave, (since they were available),without having to ask, due to the situation. At one point, I called to speak to someone about extending my stay. I was told that the manager was in the hotel with family and that he would get back to me. After 3 hours with no response, I go to the lobby to find the manager at the desk. I let him know that I had been waiting for hours to hear back from him and he did not offer even an insincere apology, which is unacceptable, and really made me question if I want to give this hotel another try. Also, the food wasn't great and the grouper for the valentine's menu was not fresh. I got my order to-go and it reeked, through the container, the paper bag and my mask. Goodness. I took one bite, and it was extremely salty. I threw the rest away. I hope things get better, as the hotel has...
Read moreThe Cotton House, Cleveland Hotel is a beautiful landmark, situated in the heart of the Mississippi delta. Situated within walking distance from numerous local landmarks and shopping. The hotel towers above the active and flourishing down-town shopping area and its' robust night scene, appealing to all ages and tastes alike. The outside image of the hotel is something that captivates anyone passing through, from the grand entrance way, to the roof-top bar. However, once inside the hotel, the atmosphere is somewhat less than awe inspiring. The friendliness of the guest service attendant was that of a tired and self apparent over worked employee, who just wanted to check in guests and send them on their way. Having grown up in the area I was very quick to make small talk and discuss the uniqueness of the Hotel's location and knowledge of the prior establishment, which occupied the land prior to the hotel being built. These conversations fell on deaf ears and was a shock to someone who has always boosted about the friendliness and politeness of the local people, wherever my travels have taken me (Globally). I have always been an ambassador of Cleveland, Mississippi and have encouraged others to visit, but I am know more hesitant, to give such a recommendation. Stemming from the hotel staff's very outspoken and public discourse concerning working and the current management, the obvious lack of quality control was apparent I the cleanliness of the room, and to the staff serving in the Hotel's restaurant (touted as one of the areas best), and their attention to address customers, that are apparently waiting to be seated, to being left standing outside. Whatever intimate personal conversation was seemingly more important than seating and attending to customers. The establishment itself is poised to make a very good and lasting impression on anyone who visits, however attention to overall quality management is needed, in order to correct the course. This was just one stay and may not be indicative to the overall actuality, however, serval others visiting during the same timeframe, shared the...
Read moreThe hotel is beautiful inside and out. The building’s exterior screams luxury in stark contrast to the humble, small town in which it resides. The building’s interior, too, is a mixture of expensive taste and classic southern charm. Warm colors blend with cool to create an inviting atmosphere. It’s like home ... but nicer - like what it would be like if you lived in the pages of Southern Living magazine, less lived in, more picturesque. And the rooms? Beautiful! Soft, pillowy beds with plush, warm blankets and cottony pillows, a smart tv with access to Netflix and YouTube, and the most amazing and superb walk-in shower! And the complementary charcoal bar soap will leave your skin so soft, you’ll want to know where you can purchase your own! Please don’t make the misconception that such niceties must come with an uppity or unwelcoming staff because that is far from true. The majority of workers encountered during my stay were perfectly pleasant and welcoming.
In fact, the ONLY disappointments of which I can speak are simply the lack of a refrigerator and microwave in the rooms - I mean, sometimes, a girl wants popcorn, right? And, of greater importance the breakfast offerings - or lack thereof. While I prefer at least some sort of complimentary breakfast, I can get on board with having to pay if my food is going to be good. However, Delta Meat Market, has an incredibly limited breakfast menu, and the options that DO exist ... fail to deliver in the taste department. Don’t get me wrong; it’s not disgusting. It’s just not phenomenal. It’s nothing special at all actually. It’s mediocre. The price, however, is every bit worthy of the building in which this surprisingly and disappointingly average restaurant resides. Basically, come prepared to spend more than you should for less than satisfying product.
Take it how you will. My personal stance: The Cotton House is beautiful and worth the visit. It’s comfort personified! Just come...
