While on a business trip in Cleveland, MS, I decided to order dinner from Backdraft, a restaurant I found online. I placed an online order at 7:14 PM, which was confirmed by email with a scheduled pickup time of 8:15 PM. Although I thought the wait was excessive, I accepted it.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, I was not greeted by the hostess. I approached her and mentioned I was there to pick up an order. She took my name and went to the kitchen, returning shortly to say there was no order under my name. Another woman came out, also without a greeting, and asked if I had proof of purchase. I was confused but showed the confirmation. Then, yet another staff member acknowledged the order and asked if I still wanted it. I said yes, and requested to speak with the manager.
I sat at a table and waited. After about five minutes, a young man came from the kitchen and asked, “Are you the lady with the problem?” I clarified that I was a paying customer who hadn’t received her order. He immediately became combative and told me that if I was “going to say that,” he wouldn’t help me. He then claimed to be the owner and said he didn’t have to do anything for me. I asked for a refund or a resolution, and he refused to engage, eventually stating he would call the police.
I was simply trying to get the food I paid for. Instead, I was met with rudeness, dismissal, and eventually police involvement—all due to the owner's unwillingness to take responsibility for a missed order and provide basic customer service.
As someone who frequently travels and supports local businesses, I’ve never been treated so poorly. A simple apology and correction of the mistake would have sufficed. Instead, I was made to feel like a nuisance and was treated as though I was trying to get something for free.

Read moreBuyer beware if you’re not a fan of Pimento cheese, this place calls it two different things!! I love Pimento cheese, so I ordered the “Smoke Eater Burger” that clearly states that it is made with Jalapeño Pimento Cheese.
My wife does not like Pimento Cheese! Which is why she ordered the Jalapeño Popper Grilled Cheese. Which reads that it is made with Jalapeño and Cream Cheese filling. Once we received our order she took one bite discovered that her sandwich was covered in Jalapeño Pimento Cheese!
I brought the menu that we ordered from, to the bar and spoke to our waitress and an older gentleman whom also worked there. I explained the issue with my wife’s sandwich and was basically told by both people that Jalapeño Pimento Cheese & Jalapeño and Cream Cheese filling “Are the Same Thing”!!!
I was not asked if I would like it to be remade or if I’d like something else on the menu. So my wife had to scrape the pile of “Pimento Cheese off her sandwich and just eat the bread.
Oh!! and to make matters even worse 18% gratuity was automatically added to our bill!!!! The menu states that 20% gratuity will be add for groups of five or more but we only had four people, myself, my wife and our two kids.
Needed less to say our $90 lunch @ Backdraft was very unpleasant, customer service was non existent and I was forced by the restaurant to leave a 18% tip that was not earned. If your in Cleveland, MS go ahead and do yourself a favor a skip...
Read moreFirst off, you should be aware of an 18% gratuity added to EVERY bill. In addition, there is a 3% credit card usage charge. I had an appetizer, a meal, and a drink and my bill was 60$. I would point out that this feels grossly over priced for the area.
The food and service was under-whelming - not worth anywhere near what I paid. The cheesy bake (a local favorite) had crackers and bacon on top of a seafood/cream cheese base served with tortilla chips. The bacon did not go with the seafood and the chips and crackers provided no complimentary flavor profile. As a matter of fact, they were actually at odds with one another. It was luke warm and if I had to guess, it was being held in a warming cabinet and not fresh made.
My stuffed shrimp meal came with a meager salad and one side which I chose buttered pasta. I would say I received 6 or 7 mid sized stuffed shrimp in what a creme brulee would typically be served in (or smaller). The pasta was in a separate dish.
The meal felt very hap-hazard and there was essentially no plating technique to mention.
I would not return to this restaurant nor would I recommend it to anyone. It was simply not worth the money and the charges for poor service only added...
