Would I suggest staying here. I can easily answer that question with two simple words: HELL YES. I have stayed here the past three years for Rock On The Range.
The Experience of the Wayfaring Buckeye: I was nervous at first when the only experiences I have had with a hostel was the horror movie from back in the early 2000s. I can tell you that the only scary thing about staying here is that it feels like a time machine that takes you back to your college years. Staying here is like the best parts of your college experience, hanging out with friends, ordering take out, drinking some brews and meeting random people who are all about new experiences. The Hostel manager Robbie is the biggest reason this feels like taking a break from reality and going back to college for weekend. He truly spoils the guest and treats them as his college buddies taking them on bar crawls, making sure there is supplies for a good time beer and snacks, late night pizza, as well hanging out with the guest that stay for really a pretty extrodinary amount of time. As someone who use to travel for work consistently and lived in hotels for a couple of years, I would choose the experience of staying at the Wayfaring Buckeye hostel over any Marriott or Hilton hotel in Columbus.
The Accommodations of the Wayfaring Buckeye: This place has never once made me question its cleanliness every bed, blanket, pillow smells clean and towels are folded on the bed and ready for the guest use. I cannot speak to the private rooms but have heard really good things about them. I have always stayed in the multi-person room and they nice usually cool in the hot summer weather and comfortable. Staying here you should spend limited time in the room, and either be out exploring the city (Listen to Robbies food suggestions, the dude knows whats good), or in the common areas meeting/hanging out with your fellow hostel guest. This is best part of the experience that total whips hotel living. They are in the process of redoing all of the bathrooms and the one they have finished is absolutely wonderful. It will make you feel like you are showering in a Hawaiin waterfall in the middle of Downtown Columbus, Ohio no matter the time of year. Theres a hottub in the back of the hostel, get in it. Do not be afraid of it, it is clean I have seen Robbie get in and enjoy it. If he trusts it you definitely should.
Overall the Wayfaring Buckeye Hostel is a homerun for the price its possible your entire stay will cost the same as one night from one of the other hotel chains. If I could rate them higher I would. As someone who is a Platinum member at multiple hotel chains the experience and enjoyment I have had at the chains are not even comparable to what I have gotten at the Wayfaring Buckeye Hostel in a good way. Do yourself a favor and give them a shot if you want a new experience and a cool atmosphere in a...
Read moreI'm going to leave a really descriptive review for those of you who need some information.
This place was AMAZING. In an artsy neighborhood with sparse parking. I was lucky and actually found close parking (though that may not always be the case) I personally was staying for only a few hours to get some shuteye (Drove from Connecticut, about 11 hours away) Upon arrival, a little confusion ensued probably because of how tired I was. The hostel actually is made up of a duplex that was reopened to be an entire home with dual everything (lots of area to cook or hang out)
Upon checkin, there is an envelope waiting for you with instructions on how to access the home. The porch has plenty of area to smoke cigarettes if you do. There are speakers that are peacefully playing music. Plenty of other travelers staying here from all over the world. I met a few Japanese people going to university here and some British peeps who were vacationing. I guess this is where they refer young people who are temporary going to the nearby university to stay for a few weeks or so.
Upon arrival, you receive information about locks on entry doors. This made me feel secure. The information received upon arrival informed me how to navigate to my room, since this building is pretty large. When I went up to my room and unlocked the door, there was a bunk bed which was occupied. The beds are numbered. I went past that and went up a small staircase to my part of the room which had 3 single beds, one occupied by another friendly traveler.
The linens were clean, the towel was good. I went to the bathroom to take a shower, and that room was clean and smelled nice as well. I pretty much just went to bed right after. Upon waking up, I located a very cute and well-stocked selection for breakfast. I had a bagel and some flavored water. There was coffee, but I was feeling to lazy to make it myself. I sat down with a very friendly French traveler and we talked. I noticed the other living room had borrow-able bikes and the kitchen also had some small travel goods for sale (drop your money in the piggy bank - how cute) I believe there were 3 or 4 bathrooms and plenty of washers and dryers to do your laundry.
Don't pay through a third party - There are less fees with direct booking.
I just want to express my gratitude - This was so well put together, great communication, fun place. Well rounded and so convenient! I wish I wasn't passing through on my 3-day 30 hour move from Connecticut to Texas, but it was good for any type of stay. Quick or longer term. Thank...
Read moreSomething of a mixed experience, though mostly quite good. Firstly, I was quite pleasantly surprised by all of the amenities they had. Maybe I didn't research close enough, but beyond free breakfast, there is a full gas range, as well as a hot tub, piano, free-to-use lockers, TV with streaming services, wifi and wired internet, refrigerators for guests, nice porch/smoking area, and a good bit more. Certainly it was more than I could have expected to use in a short visit; felt more like staying at a friend's house than a hostel. That said, despite the economy, it feels like a much better place for longer visits, at least 2 days. However, there were a few odd surprises, namely, the rooms. There are a lot of them with a good number of beds. Between that and having to pass through another bedroom to get to certain rooms, there's obviously no privacy, even more than you might expect. They assign you a bed, which is well enough, but be wary if you have any accessibility issues at all. My room was up two flights of narrow stairs, the second of which required me to hunch, crawl, or sit at the top, when coming up or down, because of the low ceiling. I'm not quite 6ft, but could only stand up at one spot in the room. Also, while I get that there's a pandemic on and all, it doesn't seem like the owners get around to cleaning up much. It's alright that it's left to guests to clean up after themselves-- I don't mind leaving a place as I found it-- but that collapses when someone else doesn't. Room below me had an early departure who left a bunch of stuff, books, bottle of wine, empty bottles, fake nails, and cigarette boxes all around. It was that way for as long as I was there. Still, it was really a fine time. Good accommodations for sure, and absolutely an unbeatable price for it, even without factoring...
