I would like to preface this comment with the fact that I have put myself through college being a house keeper and hotel maids as a profession. I worked at the Double Tree in Durham, NC and while employed there I became fluent on normal and abnormal hotel turnover expectations. I have been concious my whole life since then of being overly dirty and problematic from a cleaning perspective. I tip the maids and upkeep in my hotel stays with knowledge of what is considerate and not. My family stayed in Coos Bay, OR's Motel 6 as we moved out of our apartment and downsized in it for a few days. In this process we created a lot of waste that we addressed as we worked. We set the trash out by the door as asked. The day it was time to check out I was behind in the check out time but was assured things were ok as we worked through the overwhelm. While it needed cleaning and the garbage by the door was larger than the waste paper bin, it was bagged. I discussed with the maid that the dishes under the garbage could be garbage or they could help themselves to it. I left a tip and a room that had been used for a week with our own blankets over the sheets of Motel 6 not being used. My issue is not how not dirty we were, it's how not extraordinary the state of the room at my departure was. The rooms do need to be cleaned but you can't always expect a used room to look like an airline flight attendant. It was used by it wasn't trashed. The trash was bagged and discussions were had with the staff about the things I left. I was made to feel like everything was fine, or I'd have taken the trash bag and dishes to the trash and thrift store. I was made to feel like nothing was wrong. Today, I went back to that Motel 6 to fix the end of the Coos Bay leg of our move to stay 2 nights where we would be doing things at U-Haul but the processing of stuff was done, although I can appreciate the concern that we'd replicate that issue, if they would have asked/warned I could have assured them that my plans didn't include replicating that mistake either. What happened did shock me. They told me the room was so wrecked that we could never stay at this Motel 6 again. I appreciate that what I did may have generated late check out fees or trash disposal fees or something like that, but instantly banned for life for behavior that didn't involve conflict anywhere on the spectrum or fire/smoking to be out of bounds considering the client base and the kinds of issues that this client base presents with. Up to then I'd believed I'd had an experience worth returning over. Literally shocked and I would like this examined. If it isn't proven with photos and evidence that I really wrecked a room so bad that a fee and a stern policy discussion wasn't a choice, I would like my right to stay at Motel 6 hotels reinstated. I don't think I'm a saint but I'm traveling across the country on a budget and am horrified to have lost this option over some dishes and bagged trash. I didn't even complain about the hot tub being unavailable or that the front desk openly blamed it on the maintenance worker having walked off the job the previous day and no one else knowing how to operate the chemicals. I was disappointed by that and didn't choose to make it a thing but I just wanted you to know it now since I see cutting these people slack didn't equal the same, or even telling me I couldnt have the slack st the time. It's the lying to my face about things being fine while blacklisting me that really burns. I don't get how a fee and a discussion didn't proceed this kind of treatment when I paid and would have paid a fee. I knew I'd messed up with checkout. I wouldn't have...
Read moreFirst off, the staff here are great. They will show right up and talk to you if you go to the lobby, and if you go up there with a problem they solve it right away. For instance, I had an oopsie buying something out of the vending machine that didn't come out, and they gave me the cash out of the register and apologized. Not many places would.
I also like that they left me alone when I was outside, unless it was morning and we were exchanging good mornings or something. But I was outside a lot smoking and working on my laptop and stuff because the internet works better outside there. It also heavily depends on where your room is. They need a range extender, the problem would be fairly easy to tackle for cheap, I am not sure why they don't as it would improve our stays by a LOT.
The cons are that the water in the rooms like in the taps is not good to drink, it made me feel like crap a couple of times. They also closed the bathrooms near the laundry place, and for that matter the laundry stuff messed up and charged me for a broken washer that wouldn't start then the dryer didn't dry my clothes really so I paid like 6 dollars for nothing almost. The worker said the company has to do the refund, and he'd put in a repair request. The refrund did not work, and I am not fussing with calling them for 6 dollars, I got better stuff to do.
Also, you only get a couple bars of this really bad soap. You can buy shampoo and all that out of the vending machine, or just travel a tiny bit and go to a store and get a far better deal.
This is a place you go that you know is going to be affordable and a place to lay low for a few days. They let you stay up to 14 days in a row, then you have to leave for 3, probably so you can't claim you live there or whatever.
The area is nice, you can walk one way and make it to a weed store and Elite Market, and there is a weed store right next to Motel 6 called Bahama Buds, but it's pricey compared to Positive Vibrations near Elite Market. Also, at Elite Market you can get chicken of all things. It was nice though because the walk there is beautiful in the dark or when the sun's coming up and Elite Market is open 24 hours a day.
Anyway, I would recommend them and if you go there get the My6 app or whatever it usually has the best deals on stays, at least ones a day or two...
Read moreThis was my seventh time staying in a Motel 6 in 2018 and even though I have always left my room in excellent condition, when I arrived at the Coos Bay location after driving 3 hours I was told there was a policy change and that I now have to let a housekeeper into my room every single day. This is unacceptable to me as I have OCD and I don't understand why this is the first time I've ever heard about this when I've been an ongoing customer with your company. I didn't even receive an email in regards to the policy change. The staff members were polite but completely unhelpful. The girl that checked me in told me it was a corporate policy and they wouldn't do it if they didn't have to, so I called corporate and spoke with a supervisor named Amanda in guest relations, who told me there was absolutely nothing she could do for me and I would need to speak with the manager of the property, whose name and phone number she was unable to provide me with. It seems I need to find alternative motel arrangements now. Very disappointed that as a returning customer who's always left my room in excellent condition I wasn't told until check-in about the policy change nor was I offered a one-time waiver of this policy even though I just drove 3 hours and had no idea about the policy change since your company couldn't even send me an email with the update. And to add insult to injury, they took away my promotional discount when I changed my stay from three nights to one night. I can only assume the front desk girl canceled my reservation that was made through a special promotion email and rebooked it for the one night. Regardless, I was charged full price.
Other notes about this property:
Cons: Nowhere to properly walk a dog other than a couple small mulched areas and one strip of grass right on the highway which was COVERED in dog waste; this was also the noisiest property I have stayed at (except for the troutdale location) with work being done on the opposite end of the building, and again, no heads up.
Pros: clean room,...
