The museum had several exhibits with many historical items on display and a room with information and examples of myrtlewood carvings. However, the most interesting part of the museum was the sign out front which told of the story of the lynching of Alonzo Tucker who was killed by a white mob in 1902. The museum also goes further into explaining Oregon’s complicated history with race as the only state accepted into the union with racial exclusion laws in their constitution. There are interactive stations for all ages to experience that was fun for the kids and adults. Upstairs is an exhibit for military tattoo art shown on the veterans photographed that is kind of a cool start to an awesome idea but could definitely be expanded on, still loved it. Read moreMy son, grandsons, and I visited the museum during their trip here from Denver this summer. The staff and volunteers are so pleasant and helpful! We also parked in the parking lot to watch the 4th of July fireworks. It was the perfect location! If the City of Coos Bay continues the tradition next year, we will be back again.
