I just checked out of the Comfort Inn in Corinth, Texas and I need to share my experience with you so no one else has to go through what we did. The first night the bed was horribly uncomfortable. When we arrived back the second night our room had a very strong marijuana smell. The employee gave us some odor remover spray and an ozone generator to eliminate the smell; however, he didn't know that no one should be in the room while it's being treated with an ozone generator since it causes lung damage. This is extremely dangerous and thankfully we knew better than to use it.
There were no other rooms available with two queen beds so he put us in two separate rooms each with a king bed. The first room was fine, but when I opened up the door to the second room my nose was immediately filled with the smell of greasy food. The bed was unmade so I just figured housekeeping forgot to clean the room. As I was walking in I was shocked when I realized there was someone sleeping in the bed. I tried to quietly close the door, but the heavy door needed more muscle. I pulled it hard and I hope the noise didn't wake the sleeping person; or if they did wake up hopefully they thought it was someone across the hall slamming their door and didn't realize it was someone in their room. Chris, at the front desk, said that the computer showed that room as empty. He was very apologetic and assigned me an unoccupied and smoke-free room for the night where I sleep good.
The next morning, Mini, the manager wanted us to change back to a two queen room which was fine but nothing was available. She wanted us to pack up and put all our clothing in storage until we got back later that evening. We were needing to leave and felt pressured to go back to pack our room. After a bit of persuasion, she decided to let us leave our belongings in one room and then check into the other room when we returned that evening.
When we arrived that evening and moved to the new room it was filled with the smell of cigarette smoke. Once again I had to go down to the front desk to ask for a different room. (You would think by now they would check a room before assigning it to us.) So once again we were assigned to a new room.
Most of us slept good that night, except for my wife who was on a mattress that sunk in the middle so her and my daughter would meet in the middle as they were trying to sleep. By this time we didn't want to risk changing rooms. On our last night, about an hour after I fell asleep, the smell of cigarette smoke began to fill our room. My wife was tempted to wake me up to have me go down to the front desk to ask for a new room but she toughed it out and eventually was able to...
Read moreDO NOT come for the pool! This hotel has a nice, fresh interior following a recent major renovation and refurnishing. However, the plumbing fixtures apparently didn't benefit from the facelift and the pool area is an exception to the statement altogether. The pool and hot tub shouldn't even be advertised as amenities until they are suitable for human use. Side note: the pool is listed as heated (even on the Choice website), but it is not. So while you're discounting that detail, go ahead and pretend there is no pool at all.
To describe the pool area's condition as a hellhole would honestly be a bit much, yet the term "dump" is far too kind. Suffice it to say that I have personally swum in much cleaner pools in developing nations (namely: Haiti, Cuba, and Ghana). I have all my shots, but I still couldn't bring myself to submerge my body into this one.
As you can observe in these photos, this pool area exhibits several shocking indications of disrepair and neglect. The drains on the deck are rusty and clogged, and guess where the overflowing filth ends up? That's right: back in the pool water. The deck itself is decorated with a myriad of mysterious spots and stains, as is the bottom of the pool.
Trigger warning — if you can stomach it, look at the photo of the hot tub and look at the color and fogginess of the water therein. Notice also the scummy film all around its tile edge, and the same thereupon the main pool's perimeter. Speaking of the hot tub; it hasn't worked anytime I've been there, illustrated by whatever sort of rigging is on display in the image of its taped-over jet button with a tissue (?) affixed to the wall.
See the picture with the rusty shower head and missing lever? You're supposed to rinse off before swimming, but I would recommend a shower before returning to the hotel (or outside) whether or not you touched the water at all — IF the shower worked, that is. Full disclosure: I didn't try because I was afraid to touch it.
If you still insist upon entering the pool area, you should know that, despite the array of vents on the ceiling (which was recently painted to presumably mask the appearance, but not smell, of the mildew up there), there is absolutely no airflow in the room at all. It's so humid in there that it feels like a rainforest, which is why the windows are always fogged up and the outside door is often propped open.
In conclusion: this is a decent place to stay, but you can find comparable lodging without a pool for a little less money down the road in Lewisville. And if you do want a hotel with a pool in this price range, just look past this one because it isn't worth it. Your life is too...
Read moreThis place was gross and so was the treatment we received from the manager Minni. Our room (103) had stains all over the carpet, and was musky upon checkin. After a shower, the whole bathroom reeked of cigarette smoke. I told the night staff, she came and inspected the room and was unable to tell where the smell was coming from, as it smelled like smoke. I asked if it continued if we could be moved to another room or to have late check out so we can find other arrangements, as we had booked 3 nights at this hotel. The next morning I get up to work remotely, and immediately upon opening the bathroom door, it smelled very strongly of cigarette smoke. I immediately notified the front desk, where Minni proceed to tell me that I stunk so bad, that I caused the room to reek of cigarette smoke -- as in my BODY! We were completely shocked and requested to end our stay immediately. I told her that I do not smoke indoors or in my car, and I do not stink as a person. She literally told me that I made the room smell, and the smell was coming from me "whether I wanted to believe it or not.". I've been traveling for two months, and this has been the worst stay. Unfortunately, the only two bad stays I've had during two months of travel have been at Choice properties. The AC evaporator coils had black gunk on them, mold on the vents, the carpets were stained, the bathroom reeked of cigarette smoke, and the caulking had mold all over it. This is not the quality of room or treatment for $190 a night. We are still shocked and disgusted by the treatment if Minni. She seemed nice at first until there is a problem and she handles them very poorly, literally raising her voice and telling us to get out, not honoring the 12pm checkout the night receptionist told us we could have if the smell continued. I had to pack up all my things, be delayed working remotely, while having to look for another hotel because of the disgusting quality and treatment we experienced here. As another reviewer stated about the jacuzzi, I heard from another guest that it is not as warm as it should be. There was also an abnormal amount of foam in the jacuzzi, indicating lots of biowaste being broken down and poor water quality. We ended up at the Embassy Suites in Denton a few minutes down I35. It was definitely worth the $40 extra dollars to stay at a place that is clean and the staff treat you with dignity and respect. This property needs a new manager and a really deep cleaning. A big no for me, and I wouldn't recommend this...
