|Travel Adviser Warning! My complaint to Wyndham properties was not the usual issues of cleanliness, coffee pot not working, heat and air conditioning not working, etc. My complaint dealt with personal safety of my wife and I while staying at a Super 8 in Crawfordsville, Indiana, November 26, 2023. ||We noticed the window in our room on the ground floor was open. Upon trying to lock it, we found that it would not lock. Quite possible the window was left open by someone who would sneak in to the room to sleep and leave early AM. ||We went to the front desk to advise employee of the situation. We were not offered a new room. My wife asked to have a dowel rod or similar. She was taken into the maintenance room and noticed a toilet plunger that might work to secure window by placing in window track. Wife unscrewed handle from toilet plunger and brought it back to room where she found it was too short to secure window. ||I asked to speak to manager and was told that he was not available and would call me at 8 AM in the morning. Attempted to sleep, and of course, was not able to sleep due to being anxious, scared and fearful for our safety. Imagine going to sleep in a hotel on the ground floor with a window that will not lock. In the morning while placing some things in the car. I noticed the hotel was next to a "XXX Topless Club". Now, imagine being in a hotel on the ground floor with a window that will not lock in such a neighborhood! Shortly after 8:00 A.M. I went to office to speak to manager. I told the employee about the non locking window and was told that he would call me tomorrow, of course, the phone call never came. ||I contacted Windham and told them my issue. They seemed to understand my concern for safety for my wife and me. I told the employee that we had video and audio of the window not locking inside the room, as well as outside the room. The outside video shows the "XXX Topless Club" Ad on the side of the building, which is seen while scanning the property to show it was a super 8. I was told that someone would contact me in 2 days following up. We received an email with a complaint #. We sent the video and audio associated with our complaint to Wyndham. Nothing but crickets since our original call to Wyndham. ||Quite by accident while reconciling some accounts, I noticed a credit the amount paid for room. No one has called to speak to us about our issue and how they were going to handle it. ||Generally speaking, many reputable companies upon finding they were at fault by providing an inferior product, service, etc. will refund what the customer spent, and will offer some gesture to retain the customer's loyalty. In this instance a free night stay at a higher end hotel then the super 8 chain would have been appropriate to compensate for a frightful night. ||I have had an experience nothing like this one and was reimbursed for my stay and given a free night's stay at a similar brand. From personal experience, the Choice hotels are a better option with many different brands to choose from. The management of the hotel seem to be better than Wyndham, hotels and the customer care team is more responsive! ||Run! Don't walk away from Wyndham properties, run to Choice hotels, you will be much happier and feel your...
Read moreAWFUL!!! I asked the old lady behind desk how much for room. She told me $89. I asked about CDL discount, she didn't know about that. I explained that I just saw $61 on the internet, but by then we had arrived so I just came in, she said she did NOT KNOW ABOUT THAT EITHER!. So I told her hold on I will book it in the internet. After an attitude and scowl from her, I did reserve it myself on the internet.
A young man came in and she asked me to stand aside and wait because it could take 10 min to 24 hrs for the reservation to come up on her system. (She was serious about the 24 hours) of course I said, no problem. She asked him if he had called earlier? Yes he said. She asked him if he checked the internet like SHE TOLD HIM TO and get a better price?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! After she just had that conversation with me!!!! Errr Not happy
I asked about smoking rooms, she had none and said I will not find any in Indiana, I said we have stayed at a few. She told me that was impossible, I didn't know she was with me then! So now, she's lied to me and called me a liar! She also told me that I MUST be at least 8 feet away from building while smoking, strictly enforced! So far Not going well! (If I wasn't so tired I would have left and gone next door, I sure wish I had of left! But I really wanted to swim and relax!)
I said well at least you have a pool, I really need a relaxing evening and a swim would be nice! The entire time she has not made me feel welcome at all! And trust me I don't expect alot checking into a hotel, but maybe a smile?? And not that look on her face would be nice!!! Lol
After we had dinner we came back to the hotel to find her and her friend smoking in the front doorway. Her friend is walking around with a cigarette in hand, windows open in pool room with her friend's kids climbing in and out of window and loud!! SO NO, I DID NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE AT ALL sharing a pool with her friend and her friend's kids running around! I guess you don't have to pay for a room here to use their pool!! Smoking is only allowed for her and her friends also!! OH, almost forgot, i went to front desk and asked if I could get 2 extra pillows, i told her that my husband just had back surgery and needed an extra pillows and I am having surgery soon, NO she said we don't do that here! I realize this was just a Super 8 but come on. She told me right when I arrived that she was retiring in 2 weeks, and going to drink a large strawberry diaquiri, she needs to take retirement now!!! We drive by 3 times a week for work, and never know when we will have a layover in the area, and there are 3 other hotels right next door, I will definitely stay at one of those next time! We stay at Super 8 hotel frequently, and this by far was the absolutely the worse of any hotel we...
Read moreI stayed at the Ramada Limited in Crawfordsville for one night on May, 2014. We booked this hotel through Hotwire and it was the second least expensive option in the area. Reading some of these reviews and knowing its close proximity to a strip club, I had pretty low expectations, but I am pleased to say that I had no complaints about the hotel.
This is a base level hotel off an Interstate in a small town in Indiana, so you have to have realistic expectations of it, but the two different people we came in contact with at the front desk were helpful and polite. The lobby was clean and brightly lit. There is a pool and hottub right off the lobby that looked to be of average size. Although I didn't use either the pool or the hottub, from what I could see through the window, nothing stood out as being wrong with it.
We stayed in room 207 and it was clean and well maintained. There was no foul odor of any kind, not even of cleaning products like one other review mentioned. The beds were both comfortable and we didn't notice any soiling of the sheets or comforter. I've been in nicer hotels that had less comfortable beds. The room was stocked with all the usual things you would expect a hotel room to have, ice bucket, cups, coffee maker, hair dryer, soap, shampoo and plenty of towels for one night.
The hotel also features free wifi, and a free breakfast, but we did not have time to take advantage of either.
Overall, I'd say we had a really nice experience here, and for the money, there was absolutely nothing to complain about. Its location is right off the Interstate, and is very easy to get to. There is a McDonalds, Cracker Barrel and several gas stations nearby for convenience. And yes, the strip club. It seems to only be open at night, so its not like there's naked people running around in the parking lot in the day time. We didn't notice any questionable people roaming the hallways or anything. It seemed like the hotel had pretty normal clientele. I could see families with kids being turned off by this, but other than the sign, its a pretty nondescript white building. Its not hurting anyone.
In conclusion, based off my one night stay, I'd give this hotel a try again. I know that experiences can vary wildly based on night of stay, room, staff, etc, but from what we saw, this hotel definitely does not deserve some of the negative...
