My first time staying at Sheridan's B&B was on Monday, January 10, 2022. It was a very cold night with temperatures hovering in the single digits (Fahrenheit). Pros: Communication about where to park and how to enter the building (via) email from Jane Schilz was clear. I had to email her a picture of my driver's license, since there's no front desk or check in. The foyer was clean and nice little things like a phone, magazines, umbrella, and hard candies. The room was clean. The bathroom was very nice. It seems like it'd be updated in the past couple years. It included a beautiful shower (no tub) and a ceiling fan and heater. We stayed in room 5 (with two queen beds). The breakfast for two was filling and really good. Two egg sandwiches on good bread, potatoes, yogurt, juices delivered on a tray outside the room with a gentle knock on the door. Cons: The noise from the heater and fan was extremely noisy every single time it kicked in and woke us up all night. It was exhausting and we didn't sleep well. In the morning, we could hear all the street traffic with the windows closed and the curtains closed. The faux fireplace made for nice ambience but it did not produce any heat so we had to rely on the in room heating, which was so loud. The thermostat only had two options for the fan, Auto and On. If we put it in the On position, it was so loud, we thought it better to leave on Auto. Also, there were no thick comforters on the beds. I emailed Jane the next day to let her know about the fan noise and that we didn't get a good nights sleep. I asked for a partial refund. Here's what she replied: "I sincerely apologize you felt the fan was loud. Each room has its own heating and cooling to maintain no shared air. As you know, no lodging can guarantee an individual restful sleep, though we do what we can to create a restful environment. In the future, we recommend wherever you stay you alert management to problems during your stay. If you do not, we have no opportunity to correct the situation. We do not offer refunds after services have been completed. I understand you will post this and we will respond accordingly. Sincerely, Jane M. Schilz, Owner Sheridan’s Bed & Breakfast" I replied and wrote, "Thanks for responding. So I’m hearing you say your only solution would have been for us to call you very late at night as we were ready to go to sleep? And what solution could you have provided exactly?" Jane did not respond after that. 2 stars, Jane. Trip...
Read moreThis B&B is in a beautiful section of Cudahy, and is historic and beautifully appointed. The room and bathroom were both large and comfortable, and housekeeping kept the room impeccably clean each day. That said, we had a few wrinkles during our three night stay. If you check in at night, you may need a flashlight to see the numbers on the lockbox that will contain your room key. The box was confusing to open as it was not clear whether it opened from the top or side. Our room keys both became demagnetized, and they did not work to open the outside door or room, requiring a call to the manager to open both. ||Part of the charm of a B and B is interaction with a host or staff who can tell you about the area or the hotel history. We didn’t see a soul other than the manager who let us in our room and building and the housekeeper, when we had a problem with our breakfast. ||In one of several pre-check in emails we received, they indicated that if you have dietary restrictions, to let them know. My wife and I do have such restrictions, but our email was “missed” by the owner even though it was sent a full 10 days before our arrival. They accommodated us the first day, and I provided a simple list of what would work for our diets, stating specifically no starch and no sugar. Simple eggs, bacon or yogurt would have been fine. Each day we got potatoes and muffins, and egg and bacon sandwiches, one on bread and one on a croissant. Not wanting to waste food, we took what we couldn’t eat to our family. We ended up finding a different restaurant.||We also had to request caffeinated coffee, that they apparently had run out of. The housekeeper found a few pods for us the first day. They had an endless supply of flavored and decaffeinated coffee. The coffee is self-serve using a temperamental Keurig machine.||I mentioned the continuing problems with breakfast to the owner after checkout in an email, and she had the staff report to her what was left on our tray. Because we had taken much of the food to our in-town family, she felt we had found “enough to eat.” That parting comment was inhospitable and insensitive.||If you don’t have dietary restrictions, this B and B would make for a good romantic getaway. The breakfast isn’t all that great even without restrictions, so I’d recommend skipping it and finding...
