A Warning: Do Not Book the Sheridan Suites Apartments Hotel, and Be Cautious when Booking through Expedia!|This is to give everyone a heads up to not make any bookings at the Sheridan Suites Apartments Hotel, 1501 SW 2nd Avenue, Dania Beach, FL 33004 (Fort Lauderdale). We had a horrible experience, namely, we booked a double “suite” through Expedia having looked at the photo posted on line and the reviews (which we found out later to be questionable, as per review posted on TripAdvisor). |Upon arriving at the Sheridan Suites Apartments Hotel early in the morning (having just disembarked from a cruise), we were met with a high wall surrounding the property and a locked gate. After waiting outside the gate, we were eventually let into the property. Two guests were getting ready to leave and we asked about their experience. They told us the rooms were old and musty smelling. |The picture posted on the Expedia site must have been from eons ago! The pool was filthy, the lounge chairs old, dirty and in poor condition; and garbage piled around the side of property. This property is a very old, two storey motel which has been somewhat cleaned up, and made into short-term apartment rental units and a few rooms for “hotel type rental”. We instantly knew this was not the neighbourhood or “hotel” property that we would be checking into. |We immediately called Expedia to cancel our reservation as we were definitely not staying. The Expedia representative contacted Sheridan Suites Apartments Hotel on our behalf to request a refund. Our request was denied by Sheridan Suites Apartments Hotel as they have “a strict policy of no refunds”. No surprise, once they get your money, they are not giving it back!! (We subsequently booked rooms at Home2Suites by Hilton which is an excellent hotel and we would highly recommend.) |Once we returned home after our vacation, we made several attempts over the following week, through Expedia, to obtain our refund. Sheridan Suites Apartments Hotel refused!|So, lessons learned … never trust a photo posted on Expedia, as Expedia obviously does not thoroughly vet properties that they post on their site, nor do they take responsibility for the bookings or information posted. And most definitely, never book a room at Sheridan Suites Apartments Hotel, 1501 SW 2nd Avenue, Dania Beach, FL 33004 (Fort Lauderdale). Stick with the well-known hotel chains, that offer free cancellations up to 3 or 4 pm on...
Read moreFirst of all, let me start by thanking the Sheridan management for a WONDERFULLY organised hostel setting. This was by far, one of the BEST hostels and experiences I have had in over 30 years of staying in hostels all around the world.||The dorm room for 6 females was spotless and well organised. There was a fridge, a hot water kettle, a fan, a SUPER clean bathroom with a shower inside the room. The beds had plug and cable outlets, as well as a light. The positioning of the beds was perfect, and the privacy curtains were much appreciated and an added bonus! The room was spacious, with lockers, and under the bed storagle for suitcases. There were rules printed around the room examplifying curteous and respectful behaviour in the room. This was something I have never seen, and I wish other hostels did this as well. I was so impressed by the entire room, and the best part, besides the bathroom being so clean was that the bed was super comfortable! I slept like a baby. Their stystem with towels and bedding was exceptional. You find the things neatly folded in a bag, and when you leave, you put everything back in the bag and close the locker! What a great system!||As for the staff, they were so wonderful, helpful and also resolved a booking issue I encountered. Thank you so much for your help!||The grounds are very nice and relaxing. The buiding was very secure, and in a very good neighbourhood. Very easy to get to by bus from the TriRail station, and to and from the airport by bus, as well.. Or uber, 20 mins: I chose this place first, because it looked great, but primarily because of its close proximity to the airport, as I had a morning flight. I was so impressed with everything here that I cannot say enough good things about it. .You can get to the beach by bus in 20 mins, the bus stop is 2 mins away by foot. There are a few good restaurants, a BIG supermarket and a Starbucks all within a few minutes walk.||I highly recommend this...
Read moreI attempted to find somewhere on google to leave review for Hostel, but only found this. This review is for The Sheridan Hostel which is owned and operated by the same company and is across the street from Sheridan Guesthouse. First the Pros: albeit very few; The price was unbeatable. The room was very clean. The grounds were well maintained. Location to the beach was about 1.5 miles and many eateries in the area. Local transportation is also easily accessible. The Cons: This place needs to have some sort of common sense when screening the types of people they are renting to. It is a drug users and dealers paradise. This is not an overstatement. Many of the guests staying here were getting high 24/7. They would then nod off on the lounge chairs in the garden/fountain area. All hours of the night people were in and out of the room i was sharing, which if they had actually stayed in that room would not have bothered me, but they were there to wake up the "Dealer of the Hostel". The gate with an electronic combination lock does no good when people who aren't staying at the hostel have the code. During a 4 night visit, the local sheriff's dept. had come by. 3 times, and you should see all the people run inside. On my second night here, one of the guests lost his temper and literally punched a glass table top, shattering the glass. This guest was never asked to leave the property. Makes me question safety. In the pros I said the price was unbeatable, but the hidden fees get you. A one time lock fee and a daily parking fee will be added on at check-in. Do not question staff or bring an issue to their attention as they will find a very condescending...
