The Holiday Inn Express & Suites Sioux Falls Southwest exemplifies and embodies everything I expect from an IHG property while being a bit inconveniently distant from everything else relevant. However, I can hardly fault the staff, the management or rank the property low based on location alone. The staff was courteous and respectful; the property was up-to-date, well kept and orderly; the amenities were well-maintained; services were prompt; housekeeping was excellent and the room was impressively appointed.
In this particular case, I booked a king bed executive suite and was very pleased with the obvious thought that went into the room. It was spacious and had everything needed for traveling on business: a full sized fridge, cupboards, dishes, silverware, stovetop, etc. Everything was obviously well prepared and thoroughly cleaned in advance of my arrival. Though traveling on business, I am often accompanied by my small family entourage.
Such it is the risk of children that I found myself at the front desk at around 9PM on the final evening of my stay inquiring how much I would need to pay for a broken dish. The manager had already gone for the day and I was set to be gone early in the morning but didn't want my corporate card to be charged for any damages. In the end, the front desk agent contacted the manager at home and inquired about the cost of the dish: no charge (even following an evening disturbance). I would never expect such a courtesy, however, these kind gestures are why I choose IHG when I travel. It's customer service at its finest.
It's worth an honorable mention that this property has a very well-kept pool area with one of neatest kid's pools that I've come across, equipped with some running water features. It's in the property's pictures but perhaps a little under-advertised in the amenities. It will definitely be a draw for my return when traveling with family. Also worth note is that the breakfast area is spacious with many tables and is amply supplied in the AM.
This is a spectacular, capably managed IHG...

The breakfast choices were fantastic (especially the cinnamon rolls) The negatives would be our fridge had a loud buzzing all the time. I realize all hotels are having problems with staffing but one of the two stalls in the womens bathroom in the lobby was plugged and out of order for the entire 3 1/2 days we were there. Also the front desk many times had nobody there to check in with. There was a sign that said we are currently helping in other areas of the hotel and will return shortly, have a seat. The Sat night we were there a lady came in when nobody was there. She walked around the desk area looking for help and then sat down and took a sandwich out of a bag to sat. She said she'd been on the road for hours and just wanted her room to be able to go to bed. The lady from desk finally came back in the front door after being gone over 45 mins (we had started to keep track of how long the desk was empty). She said "Oh sorry, I was walking the grounds". We had a smoker in our group and she said there was nobody walking the grounds. Besides, who would send a lady out to walk the grounds in the dark?! We all knew it would not take over 45 mins to "walk the grounds". The help at desk was "overall" very nice when...
Read moreFront desk- welcome, inviting, very clean. Our room was w/king size bed -was large. Room had microwave, frig. Only maybe what I wish to have would be two small bottles of water but this is not a big problem at all. Our bed was super comfortable, two different pillows, sheets, towels looked like were new, furniture were nice and modern not like old country style. WiFi was free and fast. TV had a lot of channels.Lamps were nice with two different choices of the light. Bathroom was large looked like brand new, nice tiles on the floor, very good job with tiles and plumbing pipes, clean finish. The shower was super large and with glass sliding doors, very cool water drain, never saw anything like that before. We had also twin sofa sleeper, nice. Room was very clean, no bed boxes under the mattress, clean floor under. Very nice carpet ,entire room was designed in the modern easy on the eye style. Breakfast had good choices from the hot to cold food. I just wish to have more different juices. It would be nice to have some of the European style breakfast also. Coffee machine for espresso, latte or cappuccino would be nice. Overall our stay was excellent I wish every Holiday Inn Express had the same style what is not the case in some different locations. Great job guys.
Room Tip: Room on the 3th floor, super quiet unless we had very quiet guests or they put double insulation...
