Quick summary: Definitely not worth $100. This is on par with $50 hotels in every aspect except cleanliness, which was very good. The hotel is old and very run down.
Longer summary and review: The hotel is dying. There is no other way to say it. It needs a huge infusion of money and modernization to be acceptable at a mid-range standard. We were one of about 4 cars in the parking lot on a Friday night, in a 2 story complex of about 150 rooms. That did make it nice and quiet, though! We were on the first floor.
Pros: Room we had was clean. I honestly felt staff were doing the best with what they have to work with. Linens were clean (but cover did have old minor staining on it), bathroom and carpets were clean. Things were dusted, at least to an acceptable level. The staff have done a good job trying to make the best out of the place. They are fighting a loosing battle. There were no pests/bugs or signs of them. Ceiling and walls had no signs of water damage.
Cons: (in no particular order) They say they have breakfast online but that's closed as there are no customers to justify it. Restaurant is closed, too. The bathtub will not really drain. You need to be very patient with it. Like, 15 minutes for a shower patient. The room heater and exhaust fan in the bathroom sound like they are trying to escape up through the roof. Frankly, not sure I blame them. The wallpaper is torn and faded. There is no nightstand on one side of the bed. One of the lights is broken. There are no USB or upgraded outlets to be seen. There is an alarm clock from 1983. The coffee pot is kind of frightening and I did not use it. All lights / fixtures etc are just old and dingy. The armchairs smell musty when you sit on them and the room overall smells a little damp (but I've been in worse for that). Door did not want to open and then does not want to close. We were slamming this thing just to get in or out.
There is more but the best way to summarize is that I feel, 100%, staff are doing what they can to make this clean. However, it needs more than dusting. For $50, I would not complain as these are all things that come with that price range and cleanliness is just an added bonus for a night's sleep. For $100? Not even close...
Read moreThis is a motel with outward-facing front walls, configured in a square shape with a pool in the center. The restaurant “Tony’s” is closed. Three walls, the ceiling and floor are cement; the floor has carpet over cement; the walls have plastic wallpaper over cement. The front wall is a metal door plus a floor-to-ceiling glass wall with a blackout curtain. If you want natural light, you must fully expose the room to the parking lot. There is no inner sheer curtain. The door frame has settled, doesn’t fit the door perfectly, and the weatherstripping has broken down/needs replacing. Sunlight and outdoor air comes through the bottom side.||||The room smells like Goodwill. Maybe the same disinfectant sprayed on clothes at goodwill is used here? The electrical outlets are inaccessible or impractical. Two are behind the bed and the chest of drawers; the third is in the front corner near the window wall, but not near a table. There are no outlets on the desk or bedside tables. The room was short one bedside table, actually. The bathroom was older but functional—space for only one person’s toiletries, a little mold in the caulk around the tub—but basically ok. The fan was older and noisy. The hot water is immediately hot, so that was a superior item.||||The front desk staff were polite and did their best. Our neighbor had put a dog into the bathroom, which was barking from 8:30-9:30 am when we left for the day and from 9:45 pm when we returned until after midnight. It was heartbreaking. The dog’s voice was hoarse and squeaky by the end. The front desk staff told me that she called the cell of the renter (no answer) and knocked on the door. I don’t know how it resolved except that the barking stopped around 12:15 am. Poor pup.||||The most maddening thing about this hotel/motel was the price gouging. It’s located approximately 30 min from PennState. The price is doubled on game weekends. We stayed here on Parents Weekend and it cost $177/night—$193 with the tax. Midweek the price is about $80, with deals for less. ||||Breakfast is served 6:00 to 9:00, and does NOT extend to 10:00 on weekends. It is a hot breakfast served in a room that’s too small when it’s...
Read moreI just got out of hospital and our air conditioning qt home wasn't working so we wanted go there over night til ours was fixed. When we checked in the counter person ran our credit card through three times for the room and then we had to give her a $250 cash deposit because we were locals is it when we gave her the $250 she didn't even put it in the register she slid it under the register and we didn't know that she ran the charges through three times for the room we went to go eat dinner and we couldn't use our credit card because it had exceeded the limit when I went online and checked it out there was three charges for that hotel so we went back up to the hotel and the girl said why I have no proof of it and that it was only showing up one in her register when in all actuality what she did is she refunded those two extra charges and put it in her pocket and the $250 security deposit was still underneath the register and I called that to her attention. We decided that we weren't going to stay there because her people skills were horrible.. she lied said there also no way to give us any receipts. When I asked for the $250 deposit she said she didn't have access to it which I could see it under register I did get that back. She threw it across counter. Definitely needed needed leave. She shouldn't be working there she is a thief. so here we are 4 weeks out still no refund on the charges. And the company doesn't seem to really care. The one manager I talked to said we have to hire whatever we can because of it being the overnight shift. So they don't mind employees stealing money from the company or the customer. I will never recommend this hotel or will I ever stay at another Choice. I filed a report with BBB their representative that I talked to said they hear that a lot... So if you stay there Be sure to get a receipt. And watch where security deposit is put. Also watch how many times your card has been charged. It was an expensive lesson learned to just Try and be comfortable after being in hospital...
