Before arriving at the hotel, I was travelling since 2:30am, coming from the east coast, so I knew by the time I arrived I would be weary. Since my plane was landing before 11am, I emailed the hotel several days before my arrival asking if I could get early check-in so that I could get some rest ASAP.
(I emailed hixedmond@gmail.com, exactly as stated on their own website). I never received any reply at all. Total silence. If the reply had be "no," then fair enough; at least I would have known in advance and might have visited town for a few hours or something like that. So I headed straight to the hotel, arriving at 11:30am.
When I arrived, I presented my information but was told by the otherwise uncommunicative lady that no rooms were available yet. I said, fine, I will wait for a room to become available and pointed exactly to where I would be sitting in the lobby area. Given the aloof and apathetic demeanor of the lady, I assume she is going to forget about me immediately, so I intentionally sit where she can see me the whole time, reminding her I am there waiting for a room to become available. While I wait there, she looked directly at me no fewer than 10 times so she knew I was there.
The latest check out was noon, yet I was there in the lobby between 11:30am and noon (and later) and saw nobody check out. Consequently, I must assume anyone who checked out had already done so even before I arrived. I would guess some even checked out hours earlier as it is common for people to check out at 8am, 9am, or even earlier. But, if indeed nobody checked out until 11:30am, and if it takes, let's say, an hour to prepare a room, some room presumably should have been ready no later than 12:30pm, as I was the only person waiting on a room.
Hours pass by.
Finally, around 2:30pm I see several groups of people start to arrive. They get checked in, get their keys, and head to their rooms. Meanwhile, I'm still sitting there in the lobby. Nobody has bothered to advise me any rooms were even ready!
So I go back up to the desk and politely ask if there is now a room for me. Sure enough, rooms are indeed available. It's anybody's guess how long I waited there in the lobby, exhausted, when a room with bed was actually available for me.
At check-in, I was expecting a bare minimum of courtesy, such as "Thank you for waiting." Nope, nothing. I am a Platinum IHG member so that normally means I am told, "Thank you for your loyalty to IHG, we appreciate your business, here is a welcome amenity (waters, snacks, etc.)." What did I get? None of that. Status wasn't mentioned at all. No welcome amenity. Not even a thank you.
The stay was ok. Average room, average cleanliness, not a noise-proof room. Terrible, cheap alarm clock.
Breakfast was typical for mid-level hotel like this. Bathroom was tiny. You practically had to stand in the shower just to close the door, as it swung within an inch of the toilet; you could not leave a bath mat/towel on the floor because it prevents the door from closing. All in all average stay with poor communication.
By the way, I put the sign on my door that I would forego housekeeping for 500 IHG points. Not many points, granted, but I did without housekeeping the entire 4 days. What did I get for that? Nothing. No...
Read moreWas woken up to scratching and itching from bed bugs bites at 2:45 a.m. I woke my daughter up as I tried killing the bugs that were on the bed. It was terrible and I had never experienced anything like this. i went straight to the front desk and i explained i had found bed bugs in my bed. He gave us another room but as i lifted the mattress i saw another bed bug in there and said nope we cant stay here. At this point i was like Im not sleepy anymore I'll just start driving. I couldn"t believe this had happened at a Holiday Inn plus im sure the previous person who rented before us had to have gotten bit up by these bugs. I was told to call back at 9am to speak to the manager because i wanted my money back to my credit card. I did do that and was told she had just credited the credit card and said she was sorry. That was on Thursday morning and finally its Tuesday and it did get taken off my card. It was a horrible experience. I have added some pictures. When i went down to the front desk I took my pillow with a bug on it to show him and the bug just crawled away on the counter. I guess this is a norm here because it didn't phase him. As he was getting me a new card for another room i picked up the bug with my card and threw it in where you return the key cards. The first pictures are from about 2 hours of waking up at 2:45am with the bites. i couldnt take it anymore and drove 2 hours from the hotel and thank god that hotel was clean. got some sleep and then we got home Saturday 2AM so the last picture is from Saturday morning and they were swollen all day. i ended up calling the clinic and speaking to a nurse. she recommended a few things to help relieve the itching and swelling. Its been about five days and the bites still itch. I counted over 43 bites. i cant believe it becuase i fell asleep around 12:15am and my daughter said she went to bed a little after 1am. so thats only around 2 1/2 hours of sleeping in bed for me. I had bites on both arms wrist on my neck on my forehead and my legs. i even had a bite on my lip and it was swollen. i even told that to the front desk person. So if you do stay at this hotel Please beware there might be bugs our room was room 315. wish i had read a review to avoid this hotel. Figured it was a holiday inn and at $128 a night i was going to sleep good. ...
Read moreWe stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Edmond because of the location, due to my husband having surgery at the OU Medical Center. We had been told by medical personnel, that area hotels offered a 20% discount if you had medical procedures in the area. We had received such a discount at another hotel during a different stay. When I mentioned this to the hotel desk person, who was very nice, she said that they had a standard Medical rate, and that it would be only a $ .99 savings for us off the rate that we had! Wow! Our room was clean, but worn, and we became aware that there was construction going on-not something that was noted on the website when making reservations. Our first room was located over the laundry and while watching TV and getting ready for bed, the floors shook and there was horrible noise, due to the washers-we were moved. The next morning at 4:30 we had no hot water and when we told the desk person (a grey haired man with a grey beard) he argued with us and said that we did, and just didn't let it run long enough. We had let it run, told him so, and he continued to argue. The shower also did not allow but a trickle of water to come through the shower nozzle and when we told him about this he told us we could move to another room. Since we were on the way to the hospital, we said that this was not possible, to which he replied, "So you'd rather have a broken room than one that works". We had no choice, but to stay the second night, in which there was still no hot water. This was a terrible hotel to stay at during a stressful time-which many guests would be in because of the proximity to the hospital. My advise would be NOT to stay here! We will be questioning our stays at Holiday Inn Express in the future if this is the standard in employees that they employee and the...
