We got in late, just before midnight. They'd upgraded us slightly to a 2 queen bed suite from the 2 queen bed room I'd reserved, which was really nice since I couldn't sleep and my dad was exhausted. While the bed area and bathroom were very clean, housekeeping seemed to have missed the couch as there were crumbs on it from a previous guest, otherwise our overnight stay would have been 5 stars. The AC was cold and the comforters were actually cozy. There was an extra blanket in the armoire if needed. I'm a chronic insomniac so I didn't go to sleep til about 2 and I woke at 5, but I woke feeling more rested than I have in weeks. The dining room isn't big, but the woman in charge of the breakfast area did a great job of staying on top of the cleanliness of both the tables and food area so there was always a choice of clean tables when I'd gone down on my own and when I went back with my dad. Dad is sensitive to artificial scents and something about the room was driving his sinuses haywire, but it was a relief to find a hotel in this price range that didn't smell like people had been smoking anywhere in it. If my oldest niece had been traveling with us, she would have loved the bedside booklights. There were plenty of easy access outlets in the bed area and sitting area. Great care was clearly taken to provide plenty of seating and places to put bags/suitcases. Comfort Suites has gone up in my preferences on where to stay when traveling, especially without Dad since it did bother his sinuses, thanks to...
Read moreThere is a remodeling project underway, but we were not inconvenienced by it at all. Our room had been recently remodeled (3rd floor is done) and it was very nice. The new bathroom vanity is well thought out with a granite top and plenty of shelf space below (usually a problem at most hotels). The bed was comfortable. We did have to make sure the door was locked each time we opened it - make sure you give it an extra pull/push after if closes. The breakfast was typical for a Comfort Inn, those expecting something from a full kitchen need to realize this is not Denny's. Negatives: While the room had been remodeled, the hot tub in our room had not been updated. the bottom of the tub looked pretty bad (although it was clean) due to old non-slip materials being removed (I think) and a paint job that did not work/last. We did not try it out. The front desk revised our room rate to a non-hot tub room. Also, the shower wall had a large crack in it. I do not understand why these two items were not addressed in the remodeling project. Couple of notes: Niemerg's Restaurant (an Effingham institution) is next door and has very inexpensive and good food. There is a cafe and dining room. The cafe does not have the salad bar, but is otherwise similar to/the same as the dining room. Also, be sure you park in the hotel parking. Don't park in the...
Read moreThe rooms were mostly clean, with the exception of the tub in the bathroom. You could nearly write your name in the scum buildup.
We only had a half roll of toilet paper, so we had to request more. Also, only had 2 full-size towels. We had to supplement with pool towels…
We must have been unlucky - the room above us were incredibly rowdy, and were banging things around so hard, our entire family woke up. I went down to the front desk at midnight to ask for help, and the desk clerk stated she would take care of it. It took about 30 minutes, but they finally quieted down.
The pool area was ok, no major issues. For being cold outside, it would’ve been nice to have the water a few degrees warmer. The sauna is broken and unusable, and was a year ago when we stayed here as well. I’m not sure they ever got it fixed or will get it fixed. Also, no rinse-off faucets in the pool area.
Breakfast was good! However, they didn’t have any waffle mix, and it appeared they hadn’t in a while. The attendant was super nice, but stated they were waiting for more waffle mix to come in.
We will probably look to stay at another hotel in the future as we come through Illinois on our x2 annual...
