Homewood Grill — Restaurant in Effingham

I haven't had a "bad" experience, but I don't think it lives up to the hype that many people share. Brutal honesty: the food is not great (just okay in a "it's food" kind of way) and the ice cream is pretty good because they have so many different options. It's much better than the chain restaurants that serve ice cream and it's local; we would rather support local businesses.

When I say the food is "okay", I'm not saying we won't eat dinner here, but I'd rather eat dinner somewhere else and come here for dessert. I also find it irritating when I get charged extra for ranch for my mozzarella sticks when I didn't get the marinara that is on the menu with them. At least put the marinara in with my order. Cheese on a burger should be melted by the time it's ready to be eaten, not still holding its shape.

This favorite has moved 2 a larger location & has several tables under a roof. There r a few umbrella tables in front of the restaurant that r viewable from the street. Nice coastal feeling on the inside 4 u 2 order any of their items. They offer food options but I know them as a great ice cream place! Once inside it's confusing 2 know where u need 2 go 2 place an order & where do u wait 4 your order because inside is filled w/customers. This happens when it's nice or hot outside. And believe me, they do come! Maybe a number system wud help like at a deli counter. There r no tables 2 eat inside although there is room 4 some. But they do have restrooms inside. This is where you get GREAT soft serve in Effingham. Do not go to Dairy Queen (DQ). DQ had decent soft serve cones the first visit, but the last two times at DQ the soft serve was getting more icey and less creamy. Not the case at Homewood grill. Very creamy and hit the spot on a hot summer day. Their food menu is also a good choice of burgers and such and they are all very good. The old drive in atmosphere is something to enjoy with family and friends as I watched others sitting at the bench tables laughing and enjoying each others company while waiting for their treats and eats.
