As I get older, long freeway trips with a handicapped spouse often means "stopping somewhere along the way". Our itinerary put us in the Yakima/Ellensburg WA area for a stopover. So, I booked a 1-night stop at the TownePlace Suites in Ellensburg based on other TripAdvisor recommendations. The hotel is quite new, and very stylish. It is easy to reach from the freeway and has many features that I really enjoyed. When you walk in, you are greeted immediately by a friendly desk clerk who makes you feel personal and welcome. They are set up for travelers and know how tired you are when you arrive. After check-in we immediately decompressed in the hotel's bar with a couple of drinks and some excellent pub food. We did not have to leave the hotel to find a place to eat. The service was excellent. It was fast, friendly, and helpful. There are seating areas outside around a firepit and large gas BBQs that can be used by guests. |Afterwards, we went up to the room, and although it was in the noisiest location of any hotel (immediately across from the elevators and ice machine), inside the room it was VERY quiet. Our room (#215) was spacious, clean, and well laid out. It had a full kitchenette for longer stays. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was big enough to hold many people. My only complaint with the bathroom was that there were no grab-bars at the toilet making it difficult for handicapped people to use it safely. When I noted this at the desk during checkout, they said they DO have ADA accessible rooms at the hotel, and the next time you book to request one. Don't expect a view from your room. There isn't anything great to see in either direction except for a glorious sunrise/sunset. Expect comfort and quiet instead. |The hotel had a European boutique vibe that made it so refreshing from any of the standard room-and-pool hotels you find. Everyone wanted to help you and did everything they could to accommodate. Breakfast in the lobby was excellent and filling with a variety of quality options. I really liked this small and scrappy hotel. I recommend it to overnight travelers and those who need to stay in Ellensburg for several days, and I will use it again when I take on another Washington...
Read moreThis is the newest hotel in Ellensburg but has some glitches that are worth knowing about. ||(1) The internet is cuts in and out - I can see that they have a good enough bandwidth but they have problems that cause your VPN to drop in and out. Difficult to connect to and - intermittent. I'm a networking expert, so I make this claim as an expert. I had to use my phone's hotspot for a more reliable link which was not convenient. ||(2) The HVAC in all the rooms needs a fix - whomever installed this did not wire the thermostats properly - and having stayed here multiple times, this problem is hotel wide. The main issue is the thermostat will not allow the fan to run continuously (even if you tell it to run the fan) which allows for air to continually be circulated and filtered, ideally with some fresh air mixed in. Because of this, the air in the rooms is stagnant and smells like "new building chemical" and that's not good for an extended period of time. When you walk into the rooms, it just smells stale and like carpet glue or cleaner or something like that. If you're sensitive to these things, you may end up with a headache - and you cannot open the windows. They really need to get this air circulation problem fixed. I'm not super sensitive to this kind of thing, so if you are - this could be a big problem for you.||And when the "heat" or cooling comes on, it overshoots the target temp and you go from cold to high heat on you - then off again for a long time. I can deal with this, but the stagnant air is the biggest problem for me, and yes the internet should be looked at as well.||I also had a problem with housekeeping literally pounding on my door 3 hours before checkout while I was trying to sleep in, despite having my DND/privacy sign up. This only happened once, so I don't know if it's a systemic problem or just a one...
Read moreWow. We just love this hotel and the staff members.
The hotel is very new but they did well designing it. There are so many staff members there all day keeping it clean, tidy and maintained. Plenty of parking and lots of cameras to watch for security.
The pool is a good size and the hot tub is fantastic. It is the warmest we've experienced. We saw them most mornings checking the chemicals. Daily pool and hot tub sessions for 4 weeks and we never felt chemical discomfort.
The rooms are a great size and from what we could see most had a different layout. Good closets, lighting and great kitchens! Everything needed to cook with except an oven. Showers were hot and tubs are a good size.
The gym is spacious for a hotel gym. Lots of cardio machines, cable machine, weights and benches. Music or TV available. They do not have cups- weird, but they do have a bottle filler.
Laundry is a bit expensive but the machines are new. They wash and dry very well and there are many machines available.
We had great experiences with so many staff members but Mrs. Hannah was our favorite and took great care of us. We didn't catch the name of the lady who takes care of the breakfast during the weekdays but she was always so kind and did well keeping things stocked and cleaned.
Pet areas were big and well lit
The lounging area- also the breakfast area- is spacious. Lots of seating options and separate from the check-in counter.
Great location to the highway and stores of all needs.
The rooms were so quiet. No road noise. No air conditioning/heating noises. We never needed a window opened to get fresh air or to feel comfortable. Wonderful design of the air flow system.
We can't really give a 'bad' for our situation. We're excited to...
