5-star Market, 1-star Hotel. ||Very torn as I write this as the shopping area is awesome! Was really looking forward to writing a five-star review, however since the two are technically one business I can only award 2 stars overall. ||So for those who are unaware Brewhalla serves as a melting pot or "Brew-Hall" encompassing 4 floors featuring many businesses including, Drekker Brewing as well as many local eateries, craft stores, pet stores, custom goods, pinball machines, and reservable event venues; with the top two floors being for the hotel.||Upon entering you'll quickly discover how pet-friendly the location is, with multiple people and store owners having pets with them. However, DO NOT be misled. Pets ARE ONLY ALLOWED in the building itself, and NOT in the hotel. That's right folks, despite the pet-friendly atmosphere, the hotel will not allow you to stay with them unless you have a service animal. ||After attempting to book a room from the night I was turned away for having a dog. The desk clerk even stated "Just tell me he's a service animal" UNBELIEVABLE. To add insult to injury, as I was exiting, (tail between my legs) I encountered another guest in the stairway approaching the hotel... I saw he had a dog so I let him know my experience... his reply "Oh, yeah, just tell them you have a service animal and they will allow you to stay." WOW-I refuse to stoop to that level, talk about bad karma. ||I've mentioned this story to multiple people in the market, all of whom were shocked to learn about the pet policy of the hotel. Honestly not sure what they're trying to accomplish by banning pets in the hotel. The industrial design makes it near impossible for the pet to damage anything, and conflicts with the entire atmosphere built by making the market area pet-friendly...why allow them in one and not the other? Especially since the reviews of the hotel are already terrible due to the noise of the nearby train. ||PRO Tip: Definitely visit Brewhalla and all the businesses inside, however, if you have a pet don't bother with the hotel. Stay elsewhere (I recommend Hotel Donaldson. They allow pets, are in a prime downtown location, and not far from Brewhalla) ||Really hoping this review inspires a re-evaluation of the pet policy for the hotel. Read moreI loved this place, but I could see it not being for everyone. But, I am not your typical 74 year old. This is a hotel built with an event center and a marketplace, connected with a local brewery. Each room is inspired by one of their craft beers. Mine was Cuddle Puppy. Definitely not puppies! The designs on the wall behind the bed are reminiscent of graffiti artwork. (See the pictures.) The rooms are on the third and fourth floors, and are accessible with a code that works for the elevator and as your room key also. The whole place is essentially a big concrete warehouse modified in a funky way. Even the room floors, walls, and ceiling are all polished concrete. Ironically, I don't even drink. Don't like the taste of alcohol, but I still loved this place.|If you call for reservations, they suggest going online to book. But, you can talk with a live person if need be. |Check in is at the bar straight in from the door, but if I understood things right, you can also just use a code you get on your phone or computer, or other device, and go straight to your room. I am more "old school." I like person to person contact, but it seems that it is not necessary.|The staff were great. Everyone was more than willing to help me and make me feel welcome. The shops were a variety of things. One was a souvenir shop, another an oyster bar. Two floors of variety. |There were also two rows of pinball machines, one in the brewery, one on the second floor. I am a pinball aficionado, so I was having a great time. |As for the room itself, it was clean, comfortable, and large. It was quiet, but a caveat here. I was on the train track side, and outside my spacious balcony, I could watch trains go by below me. You can also hear them, but they aren't annoyingly loud. I like trains, so they didn't bother me one bit, and there don't seem to be any "middle of the night" ones, at least none I heard. If trains bother you, request a street side room. |I really don't have anything bad to say about this place. I would stay here again if I was ever in...
