We traveled to the beach for New Years Eve as an alternative to getting up at 4:30am to make the drive to see the sunrise. We wanted something cheap and modest for our understandably short stay with 2 kids under 5yo.
The Building- 4/5 -Directly across the beach with unobstructed views. Appeared freshly painted and in descent condition considering age and harsh elements like salt air and previous tropical storms.
Room- #16- 2nd floor, 2 double beds.
A/C unit did NOT work. 0/5- It was set for 68 when we arrived but reading was 77 on unit for current temp. We went for a walk on beach and had dinner and unit still showed 77 when we arrived back 2 hours later. The high for the day was 79 and low was 66. It was a fairly uncomfortable 75 all night and read as such the following morning, so it was more of a noisy sound machine than a cooling unit. My husband did mention it to the attendant that night and even saw 3-4 unboxed A/C units in the laundry room area.
Linens- 3/5- You could tell both towels and sheets had been laundered and smelled as such, towels had bleach stains (which is why most hotels use white towels and not colors) and sheets appeared to have rust stains. I gave these a pass because they were clean despite being stained.
Bath fixtures were all rusted and tub drain didn’t work. We asked attendant for a drain stop and they were prepared and prompt to provide a rubber cover for the drain. We needed this to adequately bathe the kids and it worked perfectly. Kudos on the service here.
T/V and WiFi -3/5- started out fine but at some point in the early eve we tried to change the channel. The remote response was delayed and then we kept getting an error that basic channels, broadcast channels were not accessible and we needed to contact Spectrum (the cable provider). We were wondering if this meant the hotel only had X number of accounts and too many TVs were on using the service. We promptly moved over to the WiFi and streamed some shows for the kids for 30 minutes without problems. The TV miraculously worked fine the next morning, which may support our theory.
Cleanliness- 4/5- surprisingly for being at the beach the floors, bathtub and sinks were impeccably clean upon arrival with NO evidence of sand anywhere. You know how amazing that is after just one walk down to the beach.
All in all for the price it met our needs except for the uncomfortable temp in the room. Other hotels in the area were charging double the rate of The Beachfront. I believe your experience is based on expectations. Don’t expect 5 star accommodations at a 1or 2 star price.
We would go back, but only if guaranteed we were in a room with operable...
Read moreMy wife and I just returned from a stay at the Beach Front Motel for a long weekend in Flagler Beach. We had never visited the area before, but I was intrigued by the non-commercial feel compared to places north and south of the area. As other reviews note, the place is older and needs some updates and TLC, we felt right at home from when we arrived. I have to say the staff is very easy to approach and sincerely wanted to help make our stay as nice as possible and attended to a few minor issues very quickly. They also gave us our space when we declined housekeeping on most days. I loved the location as it is literally right across the street from one of the beach stepladder entrances (although right now the beach renewal/renovation is mostly covering it up, leading to a steep drop between the dunes and the ocean below.) It is also quite a ways away from the Pier area where the parking and traffic are a bit chaotic. This area is MUCH better for the quiet beach experience, especially after the entrances to the beach and ocean are more accessible. I cannot get the kind of pictures at other places that I did from the hotel of the blue ocean (with some whitecaps and far away boats included). I must admit we picked an excellent weekend weatherwise, as we had no rain the entire time of our stay 😊 Back to the hotel, in the room, the beds were very comfortable and we did not hear any traffic from the street. While the room A/C is on the loud side, it did not run continually. There is a refrigerator with a small freezer and a microwave. We found a table underneath our desk we could pull out. The Wi-Fi was adequate. We had two chairs outside our room (#6) where we could lounge looking at the ocean side view. We were told that the views outside the front rooms were even better. I would say that the Beach Front was a perfect place for us to stay as it was in a quieter area, but close enough to the shops and restaurants that it was not difficult to take a short drive there. We always knew that no matter the activity in the Pier area (with the iconic Flagler Beach sign), that we could escape back to our quiet room for some rest when needed. Our experience at Beach Front motel was better than we both could have asked for, and we look forward to the next time when we can take another visit, maybe in one of the front...
Read moreThe people who are in the front office that take the reservations are NOT reliable at all to get the reservation you ask for correct. We had two rooms reserved verbally over the phone, messed it up and they marked one of the rooms for one night. The rooms were normal clean, towels are VERY scarce along with body soap. TV internet was down for day one of our stay and part of 2nd night before we had to leave early. The the whole area was down so i never complained. The rooms have AC WINDOW UNITS WHICH are always NOT reliable in old hotels IN FLORIDA...on top of being OLD WINDOW UNITS..RUSTY. If the AC units were replaced AS NEEDED customers would get good consistent AC in their rooms. A man by the name of Carl Mauney (owner or manager) called me back to give so many excuses as to why the AC was not working on our last night's stay, why our reservations were messed up. We could not stay our last night because the AC was blowing hot air at 11 pm at night. We had to leave after 11 at night to find another hotel because our AC was blowing hot air on top of my daughter's room being rented out to another person, many places sold out under $200 per night at that point. I am from Florida I know how AC WINDOW UNITS work. Old ones cannot be stressed - set too low so I never set it too low. I left it what the hotel had it set at when we arrived. I never complained to owner of TV not working and that ac unit was blowing little cool air our first night and was not working right all night friday night. When we arrived to hotel Friday, we walked in to check in and there was a person at the front desk complaining about everything that happened to us...bad sign but they had our credit card number so decided to be cool about it and hope our stay would be ok. Ya get what you pay for and I know this. This hotel's prices are lower therefore not great service but hope for ok service. The owner/manager just keeps making excuses and obviously not going to refund one of our two nights there. I am very understanding and start out being understanding but now I am not going to be nice and following up...
